A witches house

A witches house is now in P1b!!

We made potions using lots of different spooky materials with potion vials and cauldrons. We also went on an ingredients hunt using the trick or treat buckets.

With this we were making recipes for nice potions that can help us like invisibility. Steven was making one to make him super fast!

We challenged ourselves to write the words of their ingredients using the cards as well as the pictures. This was super tricky so well done everyone who tried their very best! We have lots of amazing potions that we will put on our wall.

Stay tuned for lots of fun the witches and wizards will be having throughout the next few weeks.

Miss Gemmell’s iPad died so we didn’t manage to get photos of all the children. There will be lots more to come! 🙂

Outdoor learning

Yesterday afternoon the Giraffes were out enjoying a lovely autumn day! We had a chat about what we knew about autumn. We spotted lots of beautifully coloured leaves lying on the ground and so we went on a nature walk, collecting lots of them to make an autumn collage!

The Tigers asked to go out to the mud kitchen today! They were able to follow the mud paint recipe from the board and made their own paint!

Some of the children have been enjoying exploring the water. They have been pouring water through the guttering and catching it at the bottom. They had lots of chat around full and empty while they were pouring. They took turns doing each job and they worked so well together!

Outdoor learning

We had a lovely return to school after the October week with lots of lovely creative tasks outside! The Panthers have been talking lots about Autumn and the changes that we can see in the world around us. We went on a nature walk around the school, collecting lots of beautifully coloured fallen leaves. We found leaves that were green, yellow, orange, red and brown.

We used the things that we found to create wonderful autumn pictures!

The Tigers made mud paint today! We measured out 3 tablespoons of mud and added a tablespoon of powdered paint to it. We mixed it together with some water and made some very interestingly coloured muddy paint! We painted some very scary Halloween pictures with it!

Check in again tomorrow to see our pictures when they’re dry!

First day back numeracy

What a productive morning we have had.

Some of the children looked at counting in 10s. We ordered numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 correctly. We also played some number splat with the big number square on the wall for the 10s.

We also ordered numbers to 20. This is Mila working hard ordering her numbers to 20.

Some of the boys and girls are challenging their friends with the Promethean Board to ask them if they can find a number. Some boys and girls could find numbers up to and beyond 100. Well done!

Lorena, Jessica and Lilja worked hard making shapes with the elephants.

Jessica counted 9 elephants in the circle.

Lilja made a square with 4 elephants inside it.

Shay, Laughlin and Steven were playing in the shop counting money.

James and Martin made some towers and creations with the 3D shapes.

Welcome back!

We are looking forward to being back in class and hearing all about your lovely news and things you got up to during the October break. We hope you are all feeling well rested and ready to dive straight into learning. We definitely are!

There is a typing error in the homework this week as I included Monday and totally forgot it was a 4 day week. Please only focus on the first 3 sounds: ‘or’ ‘w’ and ‘z’. Sorry about that. We will focus on ‘ng’ next Monday.

Your child will also receive a reading book (or 2) this week. Please read this as much as you can throughout the week so we can practise those words from  our word wall in context! The children love these short books, it gives them so much confidence when they are able to recognise the words inside them.

Thank you!

Stay tuned this week for our amazing learning we have planned for P1a and P1b.

Amazing creators

In Primary 1 there are lots of opportunities for the children to show how creative and imaginative they are. Here are some of the amazing creations.

Joey, Shay & Laughlin made a castle! The boys then went on to make the castle bigger than them. They got lots of their friends over to see if they were bigger or smaller than the castle. A great way to practise their measurement skills.

Mohammed Almeer worked really hard to create a tunnel! He could fit things inside his tunnel without it falling.

Laughlin made a L- that is the first letter of his name!

Joey was hammering some wood to help make a tower with his friends!

Zara was trying to create a tall tower and a house out of the blocks.

Neil created a bridge. He was trying to balance a piece of wood on the round block. He had to make sure it was sitting in the middle so the block didn’t fall. Great thinking!

Jack loves to make letters with the connecting blocks. This week he made one of our sight words ‘I’ and afterwards went on to create ‘H’, ‘J’, ‘L’ and ‘T’.

During Maths Week we challenged the boys and girls to make cars or something with wheels with KNEX. This was the first time we had used KNEX in class. It is quite tricky and they managed to make some amazing things. Here is Lorena, Lilja and Thalia with their creations.

Neil then went on to create a virus catcher.

Jack created a ‘H’.

We all had so much fun playing with KNEX.

We have been exploring 3D shapes, there are available for the children during maths time to play with. Here is Ivy with a tower made up of cubes, cuboid and a cone! Zara was trying to make one bigger than Ivy’s tower.

Corey and Alfie tried to make a super long snake. They made it half way across the classroom. It was HUGE. They then went on to make smaller snakes to compare sizes to see which one was bigger.

Whole class selfie attempt…

We tried to take a whole class selfie😅😅

We have heads cut off, dabbing, pouting, peace signs, happy faces, grumpy faces the lot! At one point a very shocked Miss Gemmell at the craziness that she had created. 🤪 not to mention, the pictures were taken with the iPad upside down….

I promised the boys and girls I’d pop them on the blog because they loved taking them!

Hopefully we got at least one picture with your little ones head popping through. Many more to come! It only just October! Have the best October holiday and we can’t wait to hear all about it when we come back.

Autumn Golden Time

We have had a very special Autumn golden time! We explored the texture of pine cones and made lovely autumnal pine cone prints. We used fallen leaves that we collected with Mrs Carwood during outdoor learning to create jaggy hedgehogs. We know that hedgehogs go to sleep during the Winter so they collect lots of food.

We also made lovely trees for all of the Seasons! We know that Spring only has a few green leaves on the trees because that’s when the leaves start to grow back after Winter. Autumn has beautiful red, orange and yellow leaves. Summer has lots of green leaves! Winter has no leaves because they fell off in Autumn.

We also had lots of fun singing and being in the construction area.
