World Book Day!

Primary 1 started World Book Day off in style today with a visit from Mary Dickie from Barrhead Foundry! Mary talked to us about all of the different things that are available for us to access at the library. She also brought a guess the title game for us to play and she read us a story!

Thanks Mary! Stay tuned to see what else we get up to today!

Superstar handwriting!

Well done to these three children who worked really hard and produced some beautiful handwriting today! The letter ‘d’ is a really tricky one to write but their groups were very impressed by their efforts today!

The Dot

As we are celebrating World Book Week in class this week, today we read one of Mrs Carwood’s favourite books – The Dot!

The Dot celebrates what can be achieved when we give something we don’t think we’ll be good at a go and we had some wonderful discussions around this in class. We then all had a go at drawing some pictures starting with our very own dot! We will share these with the class at the end of the day.

World Book Week

To celebrate World Book Week, Primary 1b are invited to bring in their favourite stories next week to share with the class! Please send your child with their favourite book/books any day next week and we will try to read as many as we can together. Thank you!

World Book Day

Shrove Tuesday!

To celebrate Shrove Tuesday Primary 1b made pancakes today! We checked the recipe in a cookbook, we worked out how much of each ingredient we would need, we measured our ingredients, mixed them together and cooked them! We then chose our own toppings to add to them! We then spent the afternoon writing our own recipes for pancakes – we learned that to write a successful recipe we’d need a title for our recipe, ingredients, instructions and a picture to show us what it should look like at the end. We are very proud of our efforts today, well done Primary 1!

Data handling

P1b have been working on their data handling skills this week! We have been talking about the colours of our eyes and we decided to try to find out  which colour most people in our class had! We checked the eyes of our friends to make sure we all knew what colour we had. Then we counted how many children in the class had each colour. We used tally marks to record the number of children who had each colour!

We found out that the most popular eye colour in our class was blue with brown in a close second! Well done Primary 1!

Taekwondo taster session!

P1b had a fantastic time at their taekwondo taster session with Hazel this morning! We warmed up together and then we practiced some safe punching and kicking with the pads! All children will come home today with a leaflet with details of Hazel’s club if your child is interested in trying a session. Details also below.

Handwriting!

Primary 1b have been working exceptionally hard this morning on their handwriting! Today we practiced the letter ‘b’. We learned that b is a sky letter which means that it starts up high! After we practiced writing it, we self assessed by circling our best b and by using a traffic light system to measure our effort. What fantastic work Primary 1!

Soft start

What a productive soft start this morning by some very motivated and independent young learners!
