P3b – a fun filled week of learning

This week the children have displayed a fantastic “can do” attitude when faced with new challenges. The children have been learning about road safety and demonstrated an ability to write very clear instructions for us all to follow. We have also further developed our procedural writing skills through drama where the children were challenged to give clear instructions to their partner and demonstrate to the class how to make a pizza!  Lots of fun was had! We continued with our karate maths and took our learning outdoors for our first loose parts play session. Here the children discovered plenty of learning opportunities: balancing with blocks; teamwork for dens; imaginary play; and learning “the power of yet” when sharing with our friends. Another fantastic week in P3B!

Welcome to our P3B Blog space. The children have had a wonderful first full week back at school. The children have adapted very well to new class routines and continue to strive to be their best self in everything that they do. I have attached some pictures of our week and I am sure the children will discuss their learning with you. Have a fantastic weekend in the sunshine and I will see everyone next week.

Jigsaws and Bridges

As part of our play we have been explored jigsaws and Primary 2 have been throughly enjoying having this area. If you have any complete jigsaws at home that you are no longer using any donations for our class would be brilliant.

Some pupils also built a bridge using chairs to provide supports. The bridge was nearly out the window!

Spitfire

Primary 2 watched out for the spitfire flyover on the 17th September 2020. The spitfire was flying as a symbol of thanks for the hard work on the NHS.  Even though the spitfire was far away we could still hear it’s noisy engine. Some of the children then built their own spitfires and excitedly talked about the spitfire. This worked as a great reminder that we should always be thankful and grateful to those around us.

First week in Primary 2

Primary 2B had a great first week. We discussed what we wanted our classroom to be like. The children had lots of brilliant suggestions including safe, fun and friendly. We agreed on two class rules.

“To be kind” and “to be careful”

Busy Monday!

P1b have been really busy today! We have all had new reading books today which we did really well with. We’ve been making sentences with puzzle pieces, making pictures using shapes which we then painted, we worked on our fine motor skills by doing some threading, we used Teach Your Monster to Read on the iPads and we had a great go at logging in to the chromebooks and using Google Classroom for the first time!

The Owls continued their work on subtraction, the Foxes were adding 3 numbers together using cubes to help and the Mice were working on numbers to 100. What a busy day! Well done Primary 1!

Science

As it has been so prevalent in the news, we have been talking lots about the spread of germs in class. Today we have been really busy working on our hand washing technique, writing instructions for washing our hands and we also took part in some interesting experiments!

We talked about how easily germs can spread and we demonstrated this using glitter! Some of us glittered our hands and we spread the glitter by shaking hands, and by doing this we were able to visualise the spread! We then tested our hand washing technique by using soap and water to get it all off.

We also started an experiment looking at the impact of germs on bread. We touched slices of bread with washed hands, unwashed hands, the iPad screen, the board pen and other bits and pieces we touch all the time around the class. We will check the decay on the bread next week to see which carried the most germs!

Fantastic work today P1b!
