Well done our football super stars!

Well done to the St Mark super stars who took part in the Matthew Carney Football Tournament.  Three teams entered from St Marks, they played football for 5 hours at the Muirend Pavilion pitches.

P5b are very proud of their classmates who made it to the Shield final.  They showed excellent sportsmanship during every game.

Shay showed his electric pace as he zoomed up and down the pitch non stop!  He never once gave up.  He made several fabulous attempts at goal.

Ben showed excellent leadership skills, using his knowledge of the game to share tactics and tips to the team.  He demonstrated some excellent football skills too!

Oil and water investigation

As part of our Make Your Mark experience to explore Global Goal 14 Life Below Water, P5 took part in an experiment to see what would happen when oil spills into the sea.  We reused single-use plastic bottles to explore what would happen when oil mixed with water.  We made predictions and observed if they would mix.  Once the oil settled we added food colouring and a effervescent tablet to create lava lamps.  We had great fun watching the bubbles rise and pop!

To further develop our knowledge about Global Goal 14, the children created their own BIG questions.  They worked with a partner to inquire and develop their critical thinking skills to research and find out their answer.  P5 confidently presented their findings to each other.  Some children chose to share the information by creating a model, some chose to create a PowerPoint Presentation , others made posters and some groups even included a quiz.

P5 have been working on lots of their Meta Skills during this topic!

Mrs Sutherland is very proud of you all!

Congratulations to Jessica!

Jessica was awarded the Brownie Brown award for sharing her knowledge on germination and caring for her sunflower seed we planted in class in March.

We are so proud of you for developing your leadership skills by sharing your learning with your Brownies.

The Brownies Bronze award badge is awarded by a unit leader when a Brownie has completed two section theme awards from the Girl guiding programme.

This week we have been doing loads of work like making an oil experiment on Monday where we got a bottle of water and poured oil inside to see what would happen when oil was poured into the sea.  We discovered that oil and water does not mix. Then we made a lava lamp by adding food colouring and a effervescent tablet.  On Wednesday, we presented our life below water global goals no. 14  research presentations. We enjoyed learning more about life below water and all of us made great presentations. Also on Wednesday Fishy music came to our school for a great concert and the whole class all enjoyed themselves, we sung plenty of songs .

Week Beg 22nd April

In Literacy this week we have been studying poetry.  During our Daily Literacy Lessons, we were reading poems and looking for examples of similes, onomatopoeia and personification in them!  We each chose our favourite poem from our readers and on Friday we had a Poetry Recital in class!  Everyone read with such confidence and enthusiasm.  It was good to hear different poems and we noticed that even if someone read the same poem as someone else it sounded different depending on the rhythm and what words were emphasised.
In writing, we continued with the theme of poetry by creating our own poems on the theme of ‘Once Upon a Dream’.  We are aiming to use different poetry techniques and punctuation to help the reader imagine our dream and to make our poems interesting.  We will let you know how they end up next week!

In maths, we are have been comparing and ordering fractions visually!  We were using a Fraction Wall to identify equivalent fractions too.   It’s been a challenge but with perseverance we are now experts at using the Fraction Wall to help us with our learning!

It was St Mark’s Feast Day and we celebrated with a whole school mass.  Mrs Sutherland hadn’t heard of our St Marks school song so we enjoyed teaching her! 😀

In music, we have started a new block of learning and we are learning how to compose our own song!  We created two lines on Thursday and can’t wait to make some more! 🎵

It’s been a very creative week in P5b!!

Next week we have our ‘Come and Learn with Me’ afternoon on Monday and our Learning Assembly on Friday.
We can’t wait to show off how fantastic we are!!

WB Monday 15th April

This week has been a really busy week and really fun!

So first, we had been learning about Ramadan and we made boxes to add a date and our Ramadan biscuits with a apple to represent the crescent moon. We also watched Mohamed Almeer’s Ramadan presentation and it was amazing!

In maths we were learning about making a profit and loss. A profit is for an example if you buy a pack of Apples for £3 and you sell it for £4 that is a profit,

On Monday we did maths straight after break. In our maths lesson we were learning how to calculate the duration of thing using the chunking method. After lunch we did topic and it was really fun!  We created out Refugee Welcome Packs.

When we got in on Tuesday we did PE with Mr Farrell we did running,  jumping and throwing. The first line was 10 points, second line was 20 points and the last line was 50 points. Whoever got the beanbag outside of the MUGA got 100 points.

On Wednesday, we had Assembly first thing in the morning. P4B were talking  about litter and how we should stop because the wind will blow it into the sewers and it will affect the sea fishes.

When it was Thursday we wrote letters to refugees and put them into the refugee bags. We were then supposed to walk around the MUGA 15 times for SCIAF but it was too rainy so we could not.

On Friday we planted sunflowers for our class novel because at the start of the book they planted flowers! We are going to watch them grow in class then take them home to continue watching them.  Then we read “The Boy At The Back Of The Class” which was written by Onjali Q. Rauf.  We are so close to finishing the book.
