Animal sorting

Following on from our Living/Non-living lesson, we decided to sort animals into categories.  We had to decide on the best categories to represent our animal.

First, we sorted them into the categories Water, Flying and Land but then we decided “Chickens can fly!”

Then, we changed them to Water, Wings and Land and decided that they were a better fit.

We then decided to mix the animals up again and have another go.  This time we tried the categories Wild and Tame.

We thought that “cats can be both wild and tame,” so we placed them in the middle.

Early Bird Club

Just a little reminder that St Mark’s Primary runs a FREE Early Bird Club every morning from 8.00 am until the start of school, 8.45 am.

The Early Bird Club is a great way to start the school day, where the children have the opportunity to do a range of activities such as

  • musical instruments
  • board games
  • art materials
  • chromebooks
  • homework support (good chance to use free school Wifi)
  • physical activities, etc.

The club is completely free and open to everyone and you can even have some breakfast.

Whole school homework

This week’s whole school homework focuses on the Show Racism the Red Card campaign.

In Primary 2, we have had a general discussing in class about ‘everyone being different and everyone being special’ but if you would like to discuss this more with your child please see the link above.

Normal homework still continues this week; see the inside cover of your child’s Home Learning jotter.

Fractions

In Numeracy and Mathematics this week, some of the children have been learning about Fraction.

We have learning about the relationship between wholes and halves, and that two halves make a whole.

We have then applied this knowledge to quarters and have similarly discovered that four quarter make a whole.

Ahead of our topic (Farming, Weather and Fairtrade) we have been doing some science work.

Term 2 overview

Previously, parents/guardians have expressed a interesting in finding out what their children will be learning at the start of each term in order to support their learning at home.  With this in mind, we have produced a Term 2 Overview  (January – March 2019).

Welcome back

It was great to see all the boys and girls of Primary 2 back safe and happy from their Christmas holidays.

The programme for this term’s homework has been glued into the inside front cover of the Home Learning jotters.  This follows the previous homework structure with a slight change to Tuesday and Thursday’s Numeracy homework.  Instead of the sticky label with calculations, the children should do 15 minutes of numeracy work on either Sumdog or Education City ( the username and passwords have also been glued into the jotters).

It is important that this homework should be done and it will be monitored by the Class teacher through the class account on Sumdog and Education City.

There is also addition homework this week in the form of Pupils Leading Learning planning sheet.  This sheet should be filled out by Parents/Guardians with their children and the results will be used to plan for their next topic in class which is Farming, Weather and Fairtrade.
