Writing

For our Writing lesson this we are going to use Scottish Book Trust’s 50-Word Fiction Competition. Each month they provide a prompt to get you started, but where the story goes from there is entirely up to us.

February’s prompt is a photo of a camera.  Have a discussion with you  child about what their story might be and come up with lots of descriptive words to bring their story to life.

Correction codes

To encourage more responsibility in their learning, Primary 2 have been reminded about St Mark’s Correction Code.  Up till now, the Class Teacher has been correcting any mistakes the children have made, particularly in their writing.  However, now any mistakes will not be corrected, instead the relevant correction code will be used and the children will have to self correct.

These correction codes are used and displayed throughout the school and into high school, so it is important that your child becomes accustomed to using them.

Ice cream

In Science today we were learning about how substances change state when we add heat or cool them down.  We showed that if you add heat to ice cubes they turn into water.

We decided to apply this knowledge and use it to make ice cream.

We loved the ice cream so much that we decided to create some ice-cream based art during Golden time.

Beat the street

In assembly, we learned about an exciting new activity that’s just arrived in Barrhead and Newton Mearns.  Its called Beat the Street and it turns the streets we live in into a gigantic game.

This short video from Beat the Street explains how it works and the children will be coming home with more information and everything they need to get started.

Chinese New Year

We have been celebrating Chinese New Year in Primary 2. Sharing the traditional story of the Chinese Zodiac, retelling the story in our writing and making noodle soup with Mrs Hemphill.

We have also been making Chinese dragons during Golden Time as most of our class was born during the year of the Dragon.
