Items discussed:
Homework –
Whole school homework: parents liked the whole school homework and felt pupils were engaging well.
Numeracy e-homework: Sumdog and Education City providing a range of interesting and engaging games at pupils level. A reminder to encourage pupils to log in as guest setting does not target skills for pupils. Mr McKenna emphasised that research has shown that at least 30 minutes of Sumdog per week has a beneficial impact on the development of Numeracy and Mathematics skills.
Literacy
Reading for Enjoyment: In P2 we are working on encouraging pupils to read for enjoyment, through trips to the Foundry, exploring different reading materials and improving use of School Library. Parents noted that pupils enjoyed the trip to the Foundry.
Numeracy
Currently using Strong Maths every day with this term’s focus on Subtraction strategies using visual aids and concrete materials.
Health and Wellbeing
Mrs Hemphill is working with the pupils to develop their knowledge of Food and Nutrition and applying this knowledge to make healthy meals.
Free Flow Playground
Parents asked about the free flow playground. Primary 2 are encouraged to stay off the muddy areas. Primary 2 are reminded to tell an adult if something upsets them during playtimes.
Communication
Parents are enjoying accessing the blogs and finding out about what is happening in school.
Joke Competition
James Campbell, a stand up comedian for children is coming to Eastwood Park Theatre on Sunday 30th March.
One lucky pupil could win a family ticket for the show.
We are asking pupils to submit their own joke and the winner will be announced on World Book Day, 7th March 2019.
Please find attached a copy of the Children’s Joke Competition entry slip that can be printed out and returned to the school.
Alternatively, pupils can complete and submit their entry at the community library.
Coffee and Chat
Please remember, Primary 2 will be having a Coffee and Chat session tomorrow at 2.15pm.

Whole school homework: Fairtrade
This week’s Whole School Homework (which is in addition to the normal weekly homework) is Fairtrade as Monday the 25th of February kicks off Fairtrade Fortnight.
A paper copy of this worksheet will be coming home with the children but it can also downloaded here, Fairtrade Homework.
Music and families
For their third and final lesson with Mrs Duggie, the children of Primary 2 would like to invite their families to join in with their lesson.
This lesson with take place in the classroom this Thursday 28th at the times shown below,
P2a 1.30 – 2.00 pm
P2b 2.00 – 2.30 pm
Everyone is welcome, just bring your singing voice!
Fairtrade Fortnight
Fairtrade Fortnight begins on Monday 25th February and finishes on March 10th.
All pupils have been provided a homework task for this week.
P1 – P3 have a Fairtrade Passport.
P4-5 are to design a Fairtrade chocolate bar.
P6-7 are to create a 3D Fairtrade chocolate box.
The Fairtrade Committee will be presenting at an assembly the following week.
Finally Primary 2 will be hosting a Fairtrade coffee morning on the 8th March at 10am. Everyone is welcome to attend and we would be very grateful for any baking on this date.

Music with Mrs Duggie
Over the last two weeks the children have been taking part in Music lessons with Mrs. Duggie.
They have been focusing on beat and have been gaining skills in keeping the beat together and keeping the beat in their heads.
They have been using various percussion instruments as well as passing a ball with their partner in time to the beat.
Movie afternoon
The children of Primary 1-3 had a extra special treat this afternoon. The Parent Partnership very kindly organised a movie afternoon with a screening of the Highway Rat.
The children were also supplied with popcorn and juice which made the surprise extra special.

World Thinking and Founders Day
It was great to see all the boys and girls in Primary 2 in their Beavers, Rainbows and Boys Brigade uniforms today to celebrate World Thinking and Founders Day 2019.
The children shared with their class the amazing work they do at their clubs and how they earned each of their badges.
