Primary 7a 23/24

We had fantastic fun creating stop motion videos of some of the Barrhead Heroes we have been learning about: John Shanks, Lady Margaret Glen and Zechariah Heys. Many thanks to Tess and Kim from Eeast Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure for their support! We first created storyboards to detail a significant aspect of the individual’s life, we then created an appropriate background to the support our storytelling before moving on to making the clay models. Finally came the part we’d all been waiting for- using the iPads to make our short stop motion videos. We can’t wait to build upon our stop motion skills in different and ever more complex ways!

The sensational Jessica is the latest recipient of out P5a Student of the Wekk Trophy. For the final term we have changed things up a bit and the winners will be selected on the basis of the effort, attention to detail, creativity or improvement in homework tasks. In P5a we’re aiming to complete homework as independently as possible and to take pride in what we do at all times. Jessica always reads instructions carefully, proofreads her tasks and gives 100% to presentation too.

Erin has recently started attending sewing classes. What a wonderfully creative life skill to pursue! We all loved her pillow and can’t wait to see what she makes next. 

Today, whilst walking to our judo lesson, we spotted a familiar name from our research on the local heroes of Barrhead!

Our latest Student of the Week is the amazing Olivia! Olivia received the award due to the extremely high standards that she sets with homework tasks. Olivia’s dedication to achieving high quality presentation and  attention to detail is a wonderful example to others! Well done, Olivia!

We looked a little more in depth into the lives of Barrhead ‘Local Heroes’ John Shanks, Zechariah Heys and Margaret Glen today. Thanks to Amanda from ERC Culture for bringing along such great artefacts and resources! We’re working hard to build up a picture of Barrhead’s past.

Michael has been using our new learner disposition of creativity. Michael made a menu using his reading and writing skills and the class loooooooved it! Yum!

We had such a fun and informative morning learning outdoors at the dams. Ranger Joe taught us how to pond dip and to identify food chains that might exist around the pond. We heard so many beautiful birds singing and our P5a bird expert Olivia taught us lots about them!

We have been thoroughly enjoying exploring the legacy of John Shanks within our Social Studies lesson. We have looked at a variety of different types of evidence related to John Shanks and Barrhead, including artefacts, maps, photos, advertisements and awards. We’ve also been thinking about the term ‘Local Hero’ and whether John Shanks and other Barrhead historical figures deserve this title. Some children in the class have a personal connection to the Shanks factory and have shared these with the class. We’d love to hear some more links if you have any!
