Christianity in Scotland

It’s been a special week in P5. We have had Fr. Joe visit to hear Confessions. Then we were fortunate to celebrate Mass with Fr. Joe Balmer and we are looking forward to visit St. John’s Church on Friday.

As part of Religious Education this month, we are exploring the Celtic Traditions of Christian Blessings and Songs which celebrate Creation.

We have been learning about Celtic Crosses and discussed the local Arthurlie Stone which has been in Barrhead since 1000 – 1100ad.

We created our own Celtic Crosses.

Fairtrade

We learned from Mrs Byrne about Kenya.

She shared her own experiences of visiting Kenya.
We found out about the wet and dry seasons.

We identified similarities and differences in our homes and homes in Kenya.
We also found about the community Mrs Byrne spent time with and found out about school and church.

We looked at pictures of Kenyan banana and tea farms. We found about the jobs on the farm.

Then we acted out the process from worker to retail. Learning about the changed hands in money.

This led to a discussion about the importance of Fairtrade and getting a fair price for the farmers.
