School Newsletter 06.09.2024

Hello everyone,

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

Chatter Café
All nursery and school parents and carers are very welcome to come along to our Chatter Café on Friday 13th September from 9:15am until 10am in our school Hub. This is an extremely informal opportunity to chat to members of the Leadership Team and to meet other parents and carers.   It is always really helpful to share ideas and thoughts about Netherlee life and to enjoy a coffee/ tea together. You’ll also be able to enjoy some delicious home baking, made and served by a group of pupils too! Please do pop in if you can, even just for 10minutes- we really look forward to seeing you.
Growing Together at Netherlee
The P7 Eco and Sustainability Group are looking for your help to support our mission to ‘greenify’ our school outdoor spaces. If you could please send in any cuttings of indoor plants on Mondays with your children, the Eco agents will collect these from classrooms on Monday afternoons.

If you would like to donate ‘time’ instead, we would really welcome volunteers to come along for ‘chat and plant’ on Friday afternoons between 2:30-3:00pm to improve and maintain our internal gardens and green spaces. We have exciting plans to use planters and tubs to bring some more colour and interest to our playgrounds (for humans and the insects that need a habitat). These planters and tubs will provide opportunities for children to observe and connect with nature on a daily basis, understand how to care for living things and possibly grow food and herbs that can be used to make healthy, delicious recipes in school!

Finally, if you have any business contacts or have skills yourself to build planters, please have a chat with Mrs Toman by dropping her an email to the usual schoolmail email schoolmail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk and she will get back in touch.

We have already had several cutting donations handed ion this week- thank you so much for the donations received so far!

Community Information: Primary 1 Stay Play & Learn Workshops
Please find attached flyer for HENRY Training for families that are running in Neilston and Barrhead.

Primary 1 and 2: Toothbrushing Programme
Please find attached the Childsmile tooth brushing consent letter for the upcoming academic year. Your child will be enrolled in the tooth brushing programme automatically. You do not need to do anything. However, if you do not want your child to take part in the Childsmile tooth brushing programme please contact us via email (schoolmail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk) within two weeks of receiving this letter.

Primary 1-3: Clarkston Road Gate
We are sure you’ll agree that children are now more secure in the routines of coming into school through the Clarkston Road Gate and they know exactly where to go to get into the building and find their class. To allow children to enter the school grounds safely and to ensure staff on the gate can see the children when coming into the playground, we ask that you avoid standing at the gate area in Clarkston Road once your child has come through the gate.  As you will appreciate, the gate area can be very busy and your help will really ease congestion and enhance safety for all. Thank you.

Primary 2b: Parent/Teacher Meeting Appointments
As detailed in my email last week, our upcoming Parent/Teacher Meetings will be held on Monday 23rd September and Thursday 3rd October.

The first named contact on our system will receive a separate email from us at 4pm, advising how to book an appointment. If you have any enquiries about this, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our office staff who will be happy to help.

Primary 5-7: Cross Country
First of all, well done to all our children who raced this week for a possible place in our P5-7 Cross Country team. We had over 150 children racing and times were FAST! As is always the case, some children didn’t race for a variety of reasons e.g.  unwell, had an appointment etc. so we are really pleased to be able to provide another opportunity to run on Wednesday 11th September. This run is only for children who have not yet participated and all times recorded this week will remain.  This will again be at 12.35pm on the pitch. If this is not your child’s P.E. day, they should bring their P.E. kit and will be given time to change before 12.35pm. We also require children to bring a change of footwear please.

Just to stress, times from the first race this week have been recorded therefore, this opportunity is only for those children who missed out on the first race. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Mrs Linn at SchoolMail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk.

Primary 6/7: Competition Dance Team
Mrs MacLeod and Miss Elliot will be hosting auditions next Wednesday (11th) for this year’s P6/7 ERC competition dance team. The team will require to attend the ERC Dance Championship on the evening of Wednesday 19 March. Being part of the team is a weekly commitment and requires attendance at rehearsals every Monday after school. These rehearsals will run between October and March. Children should therefore only attend these auditions if they can commit to attending the afterschool club each Monday.

Dances for the audition will be demonstrated to the children and taught on Monday 9 September and Tuesday 10 September at 12.35pm in the gym hall with auditions taking place on Wednesday 11 September. If your child would like to audition, but does not have PE on these days, they should bring their P.E. kit to school each day and will be given time to change before 12.35pm.  We know the children will love taking part in this club and competition.  If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Mrs Linn at SchoolMail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk

One of the exciting aspects of being in P7 is our annual Residential Trip. With that in mind, I would like to invite you to an information evening in our atrium at 7pm on Tuesday 17th September to discuss the details of this.

We have made a provisional booking with Scout Adventures Lochgoilhead for next year and one of the leaders from the Centre will be joining us to give a short presentation and answer any questions you may have. Our residential trip will be week beginning the 26th May 2025. Children are very welcome to come along to the meeting too.
