Nursery Newsletter 23.08.24

Hello everyone,

It is with great pleasure that I share the calendar of events in school and nursery for the 2024/25 session. For your ease please see attached PDF, however please note that going forward all calendar updates will be made via the electronic website calendar. These will be added to the website calendar by the end of next week.  We are so delighted that we can welcome you into school and nursery at regular points throughout the session.  I hope you find that having these dates at the start of the session helpful.  Thank you for your understanding if any dates require to be changed due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances.  If this needs to happen we will of course give you as much notice as possible.

Annual Data Check
Our annual data checks have been sent home with your child today, we would be grateful if you could please have a look over this and update (if required).  Please return all data checks to nursery staff or the school office by Friday 6th September.

Getting to Know You
We would like to share who our nursery keyworkers.  Keyworkers are responsible for administration and gathering information about your child. Our keyworkers are however on hand to support, play and nurture all of the children in nursery, not just their own group.  This session, we have named our groups after Linn Park woodland animals.

Keyworkers have been introducing their first names to the children, instead of the more traditional ‘Miss’, ‘Mrs’ or ‘Mr’. We feel strongly as a team that we are more than happy for our nursery children to call the staff by their first names.  As this is new to returning children it would be really helpful if you could use our first names at home when talking about us too. We thank you for your help with this.

You can find out more about our nursery team by scanning the QR code on the staff photo display, located at the staff office in the Saplings building.

What to Bring
Please be reminded that all clothing, particularly anything that can be taken off, has your child’s name on it. We ask that children bring soft indoor shoes to wear inside the nursery and outdoor shoes to wear whilst playing outside if possible.

Special Books
Each child has a ‘Special Book’ that reflects their reflective learning story. We ask that you decorate the front cover at home and write a little bit about their interests on the first page. If your child has recently received their Personal Care Plan and Special Book, we kindly ask that you return these to nursery as soon as possible to allow staff to use these as a starting point with your child. Thanks so much.

Pick-up and Drop Off Times
We ask that you only use the gate beside the Sapling Building for nursery drop off and collection. Please do not walk through any playground on your way to, or from, the Saplings building. Please enter or exit via the Saplings gate, near the nursery, and walk along the path running alongside the playground- thank you. Children being collected at the end of their core session at 3pm should be collected prior to collecting older siblings at school please to ensure we stay within necessary staffing ratios. Thank you for your help with this.

Photos from Home
We would really love some photos of your family, including any much loved pets, to help make our ‘cosy corner’ more homely. Animal and family photos promote so much chat and comfort for children, especially while they settle into new routines and meet lots of new faces.

Please email these to NurseryMail@Netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk or send them in as a hard copy with your child. It would really help us if you write on the back who’s in the photo or let us know via email.

Parent Council Meeting
We are really looking forward to our first Parent Council Meeting of the new session which will take place on Wednesday 4th September at 7pm in our school Hub. We can’t wait to see lots of familiar faces again and of course, if you are a new parent to Netherlee, we would love to welcome you along! This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and carers and to hear about the life and work of the school and nursery within the Netherlee community.  We promise – you won’t be pressurised to become part of the Parent Council in any way, unless you would like to J.  Members of our fantastic PTA will also be there and will be happy to share information about how to get involved in the many fundraising and fun events they run throughout the year. There will even be tea/ coffee and biscuits.

All Parent Council meetings are open to any adult who has a child in our school or nursery.  We hope to see you next Wednesday at 7pm.

Community Events – Working in Childcare Units
East Renfrewshire Adult Learning Service, in partnership with West College Scotland, will be offering 2 Units (‘Children and Young People: Rights and Protection and Child Development) at SCQF Level 5 and National 4, in The Foundry, Barrhead. Please see the attached flyer with more information.

Have a great weekend everyone.
