Hello everyone,

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

Care Home Visits
Fostering intergenerational links within our community is a key improvement priority for Netherlee this session. Visiting our local care homes create meaningful interactions between the elderly residents and our children, promoting empathy and a shared sense of community.

This week, some of our nursery children visited Linn Park Court Sheltered Housing to visit the residents to play games with them, such as dominoes and snap. Also, a huge thank-you to Olive, Sandra and Betty who visited our nursery today to read with some children. It was just wonderful to see the smiles on everyone’s faces!

We are really looking forward to meeting with the residents again in the near future- thank you. Check out our school and nursery x to see some pictures shared.

ECALM Every Child a library member
Children who are not already members of an ERC library will receive a library card in their bags. Please see attached flier for more information. To see what’s on in your local East Renfrewshire Council library for children and young people, please click here.

Parent and Carer Volunteers: Storytelling with Children
Reading together offers an opportunity for parents and children to connect. We are welcoming parents and carers to join us at the nursery for a lovely reading session with the children. You are welcome to browse from our collection of books, allowing the children to choose one of their favourites, or feel free to bring along a story from home!

If this is something you would be interested in, please drop us an email on nurserymail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk or give Jennifer McCann (Principal Teacher) a call on 0141 570 7260 to discuss in more detail.

Children in Need
We all had a fantastic time last Friday for Children in Need. All of the children looked amazing in their spotty uniforms and had great fun creating spotty artwork, completing the Bearpees challenge and learning about Children in Need. Check out all the posts on X to see examples of the amazing activities that took place in the school and nursery. Thanks to the hard work of the House Captains and your amazing generosity we raised £1,011.45 for Children in Need.

Book Week Scotland Highlights
Book Week Scotland at Netherlee Primary and Nursery was a huge success! Our P7 Librarians were blown away with the creativity shown by our children’s Story Jars. It was very difficult for them to choose a winner for each stage! All of our children had the opportunity to listen to a range of storytellers across the week such as their teachers, play workers, authors, writers or librarians. It was wonderful to hear that some of our children have been inspired by their Book Week visitors with their own literacy endeavours. Thank you again to all of our visitors. Our nursery class thoroughly enjoyed learning new nursery rhymes across the week and our P1, P2 and P3 classes received their Bookbug bags and Read, Write and Count bags as well. At our Scholastic Book Sale we raised over £2700 which we will soon be able to use to buy a variety of texts for our school and nursery through Scholastic Rewards.  Thank you very much if you were able to contribute to this.  We hope to use our new school library to further promote a love of books and increase children’s motivation for reading for pleasure. Thank you again to all of our families who supported across the week.

Reading at Home
Reading for pleasure and enjoyment at home with children of all ages is really important to foster a love for reading and develop literacy skills. Please see the ERC guidance sheet and video link with some tips on how to read together with your child at home. Read to your Child Guidance Sheet  Read at Home Video

Chatter Café
At our next Netherlee Chatter Café on Wednesday 31st January our LT and some of our Literacy Champions will be there to provide any further support and advice with reading at home. Please come along if you are interested, we would love to see you then.
