School Newsletter 27.02.2026

Hello everyone,

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

School and Nursery Photographs
We will be welcoming Jane Henderson back into our school and nursery from Monday 16th March until Friday 27th March. She will take:

  • class, individual and sibling photographs of children in P1 and P7.
  • class and individual photographs of children in P2-P6.
  • our nursery children will have individual photographs

The photographs will be taken indoors so we don’t have to worry about the weather!

As always, we will do our very best to include all children in the photographs but this may not be possible if a pupil is absent during Jane’s time at school and nursery.

Please could school children wear a shirt and school tie on the day/s their photos are due to be taken as we have timetabled these sessions around PE and outdoor learning days. We always have spare ties in school that the children can wear, if needed. Nursery children can wear their normal nursery clothes.

Please see attached timetables (w/c 16th and w/c 23rd), which details the days and times your child’s photograph is due to be taken. Please note there are a few exceptions to the siblings photographs due to nursery patterns and/or outdoor learning. If this applies to your family, Mrs Linn will contact you to let you know your children’s photograph date. We hope the photographs will be a lovely memento of your child’s year in school and nursery.

Celebrating Children’s Achievements
We always enjoy celebrating our children’s achievements, both in and out of school however, this session, we are making some changes to this process after speaking to groups of children and getting feedback from them.

Any out of school and any in-school achievements will now be displayed proudly on our lovely new House display boards. Please drop by to have a look any time you are in school, these are located in the link corridor leading off the atrium. These achievements can be big or small as we recognise that even what may appear as a small achievement to one person can be a huge success to another e.g. Learning to ride a bike or gaining a badge at swimming. In order to submit the information about your child’s out of school achievements, please complete the Google Form using the link below.  Please note the link will feature each week in our Friday newsletter and you are welcome to send in achievements at any time.

Achievements Outside of School Google Form

We will display your child’s name, details of their achievement and their house colour on the House Boards which we hope to fill with lots of wonderful achievements as we know so many of our children do fabulous things out with school.  As always, we would be very grateful for any feedback from parents/ carers in relation to this.

British Science Week – 9-13th March
We are delighted to announce that our school will be diving into British Science Week! From exploring chemical reactions to engineering solutions for the future, we can’t wait to see our pupils’ “lightbulb moments” as they explore the wonders of the world around them.

All P4 classes will be in the Hub and Atrium so we invite P4 parents between 9.30am and 10.00am to make their way there once they are in the school. Looking forward to seeing you then!

If possible, any donations of empty shoeboxes would be gratefully received to help with this project by Friday the 6th of March. Thank you, as always, for your support.

Monday 27th April: 7:00pm

The performance runtime is approximately one hour.

Tickets will be available via Parent Pay from 9th March. Due to Health and Safety capacity regulations, at the initial sale each family will be able to purchase two tickets, priced at £3 each for only one performance.  When purchasing the tickets on Parent Pay, please detail in the notes section which performance you are looking to attend: Monday 27th April at 10am; Monday 27th April at 7pm or Tuesday 28th April at 7pm.

After this initial sale of tickets, we will let you know if there are any remaining tickets. These will then be sold in person from the school office.

School Newsletter 20.02.2026

Hello everyone,

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

Reporting your Child’s Absence- Before 9am please
This is a gentle reminder that if your child is going to be absent from school or nursery, please contact the office by phone on 0141 570 7260 or by email before 9am please, including a brief reason for your child’s absence eg sick overnight, temperature, sore throat etc. This information helps us monitor patterns of illness within the school and nursery and allows us to be alert to any potential infectious conditions such as chickenpox. Your support helps us keep our school and nursery community healthy and ensures we can account for all children safely and quickly each day.

Feedback Friday
Just a reminder that on Friday, it is Feedback Friday. All home learning jotters/project work should be brought into school with your child on or before that day.

Open Classrooms
We are very much looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming parents/carers into school on Friday 7th March for Open Classrooms. We invite P1-4 parents between 9.30am and 10.00am and ask that you enter via the Clarkston Road Gate. P5-7 parents, we look forward to welcoming you between 11.15am and 11.45am and we ask you to enter and exit via the main front door at reception. We look forward to seeing you then if you are able to join us.

Jotters Home
We hope that you enjoy looking at your child’s literacy jotter and discussing their progress with them. Please remember to pop it back in their schoolbag as they will need it on Monday in school.  Thank you.

World Book Day – Thursday 5th March
We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March across the school and nursery. The aim of the day is to have fun whilst reading and so on the day we are inviting children to dress up as a character from a book (no masks please). As a proud Eco Green Flag school and nursery, we kindly ask our families to have fun and be creating by create their costumes or props using items already at home, recycling materials or by adapting everyday clothing. For example, costumes can be a simple dress using clothes from home or made from recycled or reused materials (cardboard, paper, fabric). Some children may prefer to simply wear their school uniform or normal nursery clothes and just bring in an interesting prop from a favourite book instead.  We can’t wait to see what the children come up with.  Thank you for supporting this and for helping us make World Book Day both fun and environmentally friendly too. On the day each child will also receive a £1 World Book Day book token which can be used at participating bookshops and supermarkets. We are looking forward to having lots of fun whilst celebrating reading for pleasure on this day.

Welly Donations to help us Improve our outdoor Learning Experiences
As the weather begins to (hopefully) improve and we look ahead to the months beyond winter, you may find that your child has outgrown their “wellies” over the past year. If this is the case, or if you have any spare wellies at home (any sizes) that are no longer needed, we would be very grateful to receive them as donations. We are aiming to maintain a supply of wellies in school to support pupils when learning outdoors.  Donated wellies will be stored in our outdoors secure containers and will be available for children to wear when learning outside if needed.  This helps to ensure that all children are able to participate fully in outdoor learning activities and remain comfortable and dry in all weathers. Any donations, in clean and usable condition, would be greatly appreciated. Please hand them in at the school office from Monday next week.  Thank you so much.

Menu Change: Thursday 26th February
Please find attached our planned menu change for next Thursday 26th February. The allergy information is included to enable your child to select a suitable option.  However, if you require further allergy or dietary information, please contact your catering team via the school office. If you have completed a lifestyle meal request form a suitable alternative will be provided.

Community Event: National Gaelic Week Celebrations
We are pleased to share details of a Gaelic Café taking place this Saturday, 28th, at Thornliebank Primary, home of our Gaelic Medium Provision in East Renfrewshire. Families are warmly invited to drop in, enjoy a cuppa and some home baking, and learn a few Gaelic words and phrases in a relaxed and friendly setting. There will also be activities available for children throughout the morning, making it a lovely opportunity for everyone to get involved.

Community Event: Parental Hub
The Parental Employment Support team will be at Cart Mill Family Centre on 25th February from 9am-1pm. The team will be on hand to support with all aspects of finding work, upskilling, accessing training and finding roles that work with the school day.

The team will also be there to support with applications for School Age Payment Grant. This is a grant worth £319.80 for each child to help with the cost of preparing for school.  The payment helps carers and families facing additional costs at a key stage in a child’s development. The money can be spent on anything a child needs for school, including clothes, school trips, and stationery.

Part of the Best Start Grant package, which is unique to Scotland, School Age Payment is available for children born between 1 March 2020 and 28 February 2021. Parents and carers can receive the payment for multiple children born during this time and there is no requirement to take up a place at school.  The closing date for this application is 28th February 2026 – please drop into the Hub and the Parental Employment Support team can help you with the applications and also ensure you are receiving the benefits you are entitled too.

The team can also give you information on supports for Lone parents, along with access to upcoming training.  Please drop into Cart Mill on 25th February if you wish to have a chat with the team.

Due to previous busy Hubs, if you wish to speak to an adviser- we ask that you allow enough time and would consider arriving no later than 12.30.

P2c Junk Modelling Materials
As part of our upcoming learning activities, we will be creating cavemen habitats in class on Monday, 23rd February. To support this, we would be very grateful for any junk modelling materials you may have at home. We are particularly looking for cardboard and plastic items of any kind—boxes, tubes, trays, clean containers, or anything similar that could help the children build their models. Thank you in advance for your support and contributions.

If you do not celebrate this festival, children should wear their usual school uniform or nursery clothes on this day please.

Keeping Children Safe Online Webinar
The internet can be a wonderful place for children and young people, from helping with school research reports, to communicating with teachers and friends, and playing interactive games. But the online world also comes with risks, like inappropriate content, cyberbullying and scams. In partnership with Police Scotland’s Cybercrime Harm Prevention Team, Parenting Across Scotland is hosting a virtual event for parents and carers on the 25th February 2026. They will be joined by representatives from Education Scotland who will discuss concerns about the use of technology in schools and digital awareness in the curriculum. The event will explore how you can help keep yourself and your loved ones safe whilst online – there will be a short presentations by Police Scotland and Education Scotland followed by the opportunity to ask questions.

Diversity Month and Diversity Evening
I can’t believe we are already thinking ahead to learning in the New Year! Monday 19 January 2026 marks the start of our school and nursery’s Diversity celebrations with Diversity Evening being held on Wednesday 11 February from 6.30pm -8pm.

Last year we were incredibly lucky that so many of you volunteered your time to come in and work with our children in both school and nursery. We would love to welcome you in again in the new year. You are welcome to visit and share your home language (teaching basic phrases or reading a book in your home language), culture and religion as well as any particular skills you have i.e. cultural cooking, dance, sport. If you have experience of a neurodiversity, work for a charity, which you feel would enhance children’s understanding of socio-economic diversity, or you work in a workplace that is typically dominated by one gender, Mrs Linn would really love to hear from you.

Space for stalls at our annual Diversity evening are also available- you could be selling some homemade cooking, crafts or sharing information about your religion or heritage. The possibilities are endless!

Please email Mrs Linn at SchoolMail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk if you are able to help, if you would like to discuss an idea you have or if you have any further questions.

Many thanks for your continued support.
