Parents Meetings
As outlined in our Calendar of Events, our upcoming Parent/Teacher Meetings will take place on Tuesday 20^th (P4-7pm) and Wednesday 21st May (P1-6 P4-7pm and P7 5-8pm).  As previously advised bookings will be via the ParentsPortal system – If you have not yet registered please do so as soon as possible using the following link. https://parentsportal.scot/pportal/

Appointments can be booked by the first named contact on this system. Bookings will open on Monday 28^th in the morning between 9 and 10am.  Please note- due to the workings of the system, class times are released one at a time.

If you experience any issues with booking your appointment, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Parent Council – Amendments to Constitution
In their last meeting on 26 March 2025, the Parent Council agreed some changes to their constitution.  These are now available for view by the parent forum for 20 school days before taking effect.  The amendments are highlighted as “track changes” to the existing document.  This is available on the Parent Council page of the school website: Parent Council Constitution

If any parents/carers of the school or nursery have any questions or comments regarding the constitutional amendments, please email these before the end of the day on Wednesday 28 May 2025 to the Parent Council on netherleeparentcouncil@gmail.com

If no responses are received, the amendments to the constitution will take effect from the following day.

Community Event: East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure
Book a FREE Taster session for our Basketball & Netball classes on Fridays at Eastwood High School!  Participating in sport can have many positive impacts on children’s lives including developing life skills such as respect, responsibility, confidence, compassion and friendship- all in an active environment.

Primary 6: Giffnock Girls U12 Football Teams
A coach from Giffnock Girls U12 football teams has contacted the school looking for Primary 6 girls (born in 2014) who would be interested in training as a goalkeeper. They currently have a strong team however are missing this key playing position. The team train twice a week (Mondays and Fridays) with matches on a Sunday morning. Primary 7 Show Tickets
Tickets for The Jungle Book are now on sale via Parent Pay. Please note, due to Health and Safety capacity regulations, at the initial sale each family will be able to purchase two tickets for only one performance.

When purchasing the tickets on Parent Pay, please detail in the notes section which performance you are looking to attend: Wed 7th May at 7pm; Thu 8th May at 10am or Thu 8th May at 7pm.

After this initial sale of tickets, we will let you know if there are any remaining tickets for each performance and these will be available to purchase in person from the school office.

Primary 7 Visits to Williamwood High School
A letter was sent home to parents regarding a cluster event and transition information.

Bikes and Scooters in the Playground
To ensure the safety of all children, we kindly ask that bikes and scooters not be ridden inside the playground. Please ensure your child dismounts before entering to help prevent accidents and keep the area safe for everyone.

We appreciate your cooperation and support in maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all.

World Down’s Syndrome Week
Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week is being celebrated from Monday 17 March until Sunday 23 March this year. Our Primary 7 Diversity NPS will be sharing activities for the children to enjoy in class throughout the week and we would also like to invite you to wear odd socks on Friday 21 March to help us raise awareness of Down’s Syndrome.  If you would like to be involved with the week in any way, please contact Mrs Linn at SchoolMail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk. Eid and Ramadan Celebrations
We are very fortunate to have such wonderful children who have met with Mrs Linn this week to start planning Ramadan and Eid celebrations. In addition to classroom activities and a special assembly, they have suggested that children wear their Ramadan or Eid clothes on Thursday 27^th March. This is completely optional and families do not need to participate if they would prefer not to. May we take this opportunity to thank the families who have already came into school to lead crafting and information workshops? All children and staff have been very grateful of your time. Many thanks.

Chatter Café
All nursery and school parents and carers are very welcome to come along to our Chatter Café on Friday 28^th March from 9:15am until 9:45amam in our school Hub. This is an extremely informal opportunity to chat to members of the Leadership Team and to meet other parents and carers to share your thoughts and ideas about any aspect of Netherlee life! You will also be able to enjoy some tea, coffee and delicious home baking, made and served by a group of pupils too! Please do pop in if you can- we really look forward to seeing you.

Volunteers – We Need You
We are always looking for new ways to involve our parents, carers and families in our school and nursery events. To support us with gathering a list of regular volunteers we would like to share our volunteers Microsoft Form with you. Some of our regular opportunities involve local walks, serving teas and coffees, parental speakers to visit classes, helping to keep our outdoor spaces and gardens tidy and helping in our school library. If you would be happy to volunteer at one of our upcoming or regular events then please complete the form. Thank you so much for your continued support. We really appreciate it!

Clarkston Tennis Club are hosting an open day at the club on Saturday 29^th March. It is free to attend and all information can be found on the flyer.

Primary 3 Showcase
Primary 3 would like to invite you to our showcase of learning. We have been working hard and have prepared a gallery of work for you to explore followed by a singing surprise! If you are able to join us, we invite two adults per pupil to come along to Netherlee at 09:30am on Wednesday the 26^th of March. The showcase will last approximately thirty minutes. We are so proud of what we have produced and we really hope to see you there!  P3 Showcase Invitation

Primary 4-7: Easter Church Service
Our Church Service will be at Netherlee Church on Friday 28^th March. The service will start at 11.15am and will last approximately one hour.  A maximum of 2 parents/carers of the children performing in the choir, as a reader or a musician will be invited to come along on the day if they can. Please ensure that all children are dressed in full school uniform with shirt and tie if they will be attending the service.

As always, we would encourage parents/carers to allow all children to attend the service in the church. In school, we learn about All World Religions. Children do not require to pray or sing if attending but do benefit from attending with friends and this church service offers another opportunity to learn about religious traditions and celebrations.

Any parents/carers who do not wish their children to attend the church service must notify the school office by 21st March. We need to finalise the numbers of children not attending by this date to arrange suitable number of teaching staff to work with the children who will be remaining in the school. If the office are not informed by this date, we will assume that children will be attending the church service and will plan accordingly.

Primary 6/7: Scottish Schools Athletic Association
The entries are now open for children in Primary 6 and Primary 7 to enter the Primary Cross Country Championships, which will be held in Kirkcaldy High School on Saturday 26 April. Race 1 (Primary 6 girls) will start at 12noon and Race 8 (Primary 7 boys) will start at 1.45pm.

If your child attends a competitive running club and has experience of running the distance (1800m), they are invited to enter. Please note, you will need to be available to take your child to and from the event on this day. A parent helper has offered to coordinate race numbers on the morning and their contact information will be shared with you after the entry form has been completed.

The cost of entry is £10 per child. If you wish your child to be entered into the race, please contact Mrs Linn at SchoolMail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk by Friday 21 March as this will allow time to enter before the closing date. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Linn.

Primary 6: Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP)
As discussed at the Relationships Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP) meeting in February we are passing on the dates that P6 will be covering the RSHP lessons. They will be covering this on the week beginning 24^th March and the week beginning 31^st March. Each week will cover 2 aspects of the programme.  Just a reminder to let us know by Monday 17^th March if you wish further support for any child with additional support needs in relation to RSHP. Primary 7: Jungle Jamboree Fundraiser
Just a reminder that Primary 7 would love you to save the date, Tuesday the 18th of March (9.30-10.15am), to come along to our Jungle Jamboree Fundraiser. Initially, there was a limit of one ticket per child, but additional tickets are now available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Tickets are £2.50 each, and all profits will go towards the school show, The Jungle Book.

P7 Dental Inspections
Children will be bringing home letters following the recent dental checks in school.  Please check their school bags.

P7 Residential 
We refer to correspondence sent in September regarding the upcoming Lochgoilhead trip for our P7 children in May.

As we advised the estimated cost per child was £372.  You will also remember that we advised at the time that this cost may change a little depending on final numbers attending. We can now confirm that the finalised and adjusted total price is £373.  This total also includes £5 per child to use at the tuck and gift shop.  Therefore the children will not be required to have any additional money with them on the trip.

Our Parent Pay system has been updated this afternoon to reflect the revised cost. We sincerely appreciate your support in arranging payment. If you have any concerns or require any assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

‘For the Love of Reading’ Open Library Thursday 6^th March 2025
As part of the celebrations for World Book Day, the Librarians would like to invite families to come along to enjoy a read in the school library! We have comics, novels and a plethora of fiction and non-fiction titles to explore!  Open Doors from 3.15 pm to 4.15pm- feel free to pop in for 5 minutes or stay the hour!  Hope to see you there!

Mid Term Break
The school and nursery will close for the mid-term break and re-open on Thursday 20^th February. We look forward to welcoming all of our Netherlee children back again on Thursday.

Ramadan
With lots of our families looking forward to the beginning of Ramadan on Saturday 1 March, our P7 Diversity Leaders have already made a start on planning learning experiences for the children in school and nursery. We are also fortunate that one of our parents has also volunteered to come into school to lead some crafting activities in Primary 1!

An after school P5 Rugby Club will be starting on a Tuesday from 3.15-4.15pm. The club will run for 3 weeks. Full details are as follows:

Childhood Illness
NHS Scotland guidance on infectious diseases has recently been updated and can be found here.

School and Nursery Photographs
We will be welcoming Jane Henderson back into our school and nursery from Monday 24^th February until Friday 7^th March. She will take:

• class, individual and sibling photographs of children in P1 and P7
• class and individual photographs of children in P2-P6
• our nursery children will have individual photographs taken

The photographs will be taken indoors so we don’t have to worry about the weather!  As always, we will do our very best to include all children in the photographs but this may not be possible if a pupil is absent during Jane’s time at school and nursery.

Please could school children wear a shirt and school tie on the day/s their photos are due to be taken as we have timetabled these sessions around PE and outdoor learning days. We always have spare ties in school that the children can wear, if needed. Nursery children can wear their normal nursery clothes.

Please see attached timetables, which details the days and times your child’s photograph is due to be taken. We hope the photographs will be a lovely memento of your child’s year in school and nursery.

Work Home
Your child will bring home pieces of literacy work and one other piece today to share with you over the weekend. We hope you enjoy looking over the work with your child and discussing their learning. Please could we ask that jotters are sent back into school on Monday. Thank you.

Primary 4 Showcase – Uniform
As Primary 4 have their Love and Values Display of Learning on Wednesday morning at 9.30am, could all children please wear shirt and tie uniform into school that day. We look forward to seeing you there!

Primary 6/7: Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP)’
As part of the Health and Wellbeing curriculum all pupils in Primary 6 and 7 will be involved in a series of ‘Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP)’ lessons this term. This is part of ERC’s Health and Wellbeing programme and follows the National and RSHP guidelines. To give us the opportunity to discuss the resources and content of lessons with you before they are taught, we ask that you attend a short, informal evening presentation, in school. We will share the resources used and answer any questions you may have.

This will be the same P6 and P7 presentations as last year so if you attended for another sibling last year, whilst you are still very welcome, you may feel it is not necessary to attend.

We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 20th February:

• P6 parents and carers should arrive at 6.30pm and the presentation will last approximately half an hour.
• P7 parents and carers should arrive at 7.15pm and the presentation will last approximately half an hour.

Your attendance would be appreciated.

Primary 7c Baking
P7C have been working hard to earn points for their class team between Christmas and the February holiday. Excellent effort, listening and good behaviour are recognised and as a reward the winning group this time have chosen to bake. We are planning this for next Tuesday 11th February. Since we have just finished looking at the Second World War, we thought we would try and make tasty and healthy Welsh cakes, a popular recipe from that time. The children will make these before then eat them in class if they want to.

The ingredients are:

Plain flour, baking powder, margarine, eggs, small amount of caster sugar, sultanas, carrot, milk and nutmeg.

We have a record of any allergies and intolerances on file for all pupils, but if there is anything else we should be aware of, then please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.

Nursery Application for New Session 2025-26
The early learning and childcare application for session 2025-26 is currently open online but will close at the end of this month. This application is for children who will be 3 years old or over from the 1^st of March this year.  The initial deadline for submitting an application is 31 January 2025 when it will close for approximately 8-12 weeks while applications received are processed thereafter it will reopen for late applications. If you have a child who will be entitled to a nursery place in session 2025-26 and you haven’t already applied, please ensure you do so before the end of this month. Applications are due to be checked and confirmation will be issued from the Early Learning and Childcare Team in due course.

Parent/carers of children who already have a placement and who wish to apply for a change of setting or provision can also submit an application, however a change to a child’s current allocation is not guaranteed.

Netherlee Chatter Café
All nursery and school parents and carers are very welcome to come along to our Chatter Café on Friday 31^st January from 2:45pm in our school Hub. Diversity Month and Diversity Evening
Monday 13 January marked the start of our school’s Diversity celebrations with Diversity Evening being held on Thursday 30 January from 6.30pm -8pm.

We already have some visitors organised to come and speak to the children however, there are still opportunities for more parents/carers to come in a share with the children about their home language, culture and religion as well as any particular skills you have i.e. cultural cooking, dance, sport. If you have experience of a neurodiversity or you work in a workplace that is typically dominated by one gender, Mrs Linn would really love to hear from you.

Space for stalls at Diversity evening are also available- you could be selling some homemade cooking, crafts or sharing information about you religion or heritage. The possibilities are endless! Parent Council Meeting: 7pm Wednesday 22^nd January in The Hub

Our wonderful Primary 7 Sports Leaders, with the support of a staff member will be starting a multi-sports club for children in Primary 1 this term. Further full details are as follows:

P6/7 STEM Saturdays
The Educational Academy of Scotland (EAS) and My Science Club are delighted to invite applications from Primary 6 and 7 pupils for the first ever STEM Saturdays Scholarship Programme.

This exciting 6 week STEM programme is completely free to all participants, but with places limited to 20 it’s important to get signed up as quickly as possible.

The Saturday STEM sessions take place on consecutive Saturdays from 22^nd February to the 29^th March from 10:00am – 11:30am. Sessions will take place at The Saunders Centre, Glasgow Academy, G12 8NE.

The focus for the first block is centred around physics themes and developing maths skills for analysing data.  Sessions will be run by primary science experts, and trained primary school teachers from My Science Club with guest contributions from local STEM ambassadors who will give context to the themes and link them to the world of work and innovation.

P7 Leavers’ Hoodies
We know how much our P7 pupils look forward to wearing their P7 Leavers Hoodie.  We are pleased to let you know that the Leavers Hoodies are now available to order should you wish to do so. Please have a read of the attached letter regarding how to order.

Early Finish – Friday 20^th December
School will close slightly earlier than usual on this day. P1 and P2 will finish at 2.25pm and P3-7 will finish at 2.30pm.

Winning House – Term 2 – Blue House!
We are delighted to announce that the children in the Blue House are the overall house winners for Term 2! To celebrate, we have arranged a Dance Party on Monday 16^th December in the afternoon. Please could the children in the Blue House come to school on the 16^th wearing their uniform, as usual, but they can also wear blue accessories eg socks, scarf, t-shirt. The children will join the rest of their house, from each stage, to party! We look forward to seeing everyone then.  Thank you- The P7 Blue House NPs

Parent Council Meeting Update
Please note that the date of the next Parent Council meeting has been changed from what was originally in the calendar at the start of the school year and this will now take place on Wednesday, 22 January 2025. It would be lovely to see some new parents/carers join us for school and nursery updates and improvement priorities.

Primary 2c Class Update
We are delighted that Mrs Mairi Dempster will be returning from her maternity leave on Monday 16^th December to teach in P2c along with Mrs Ewelina Short, their current teacher.

Mrs Dempster will teach the class alternate Mondays and every Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Short will teach the class alternate Mondays and every Thursday and Friday. On Monday 16^th, Mrs Dempster and Mrs Short will both teach in class to ensure a smooth transition. We are very much looking forward to welcoming Mrs Dempster back into school and know she is excited about her return and working with the children in P2c.

P5 Festive Treat
On Thursday 19^th December, P5 teachers will be providing a low sugar Hot Chocolate as a Festive Treat. Please advise us if there are any changes to the allergy information we hold for your child.

Festive Wishes
As we approach the end of term, we extend our warmest wishes to you and your family.  At Netherlee we learn about many religions and traditions and know that some of our families will be celebrating Hanukkah soon too. So Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to all who celebrate these joyous festivals!

Our nursery and school will open the doors again on Monday 6^th January, ready to welcome our wonderful children back. Until then, we hope you have a peaceful holiday surrounded by family and friends.
