Celebrating Children’s Achievements
We always enjoy celebrating our children’s achievements, both in and out of school however, this session, we are making some changes to this process after speaking to groups of children and getting feedback from them.

Any out of school and any in-school achievements will now be displayed proudly on our lovely new House display boards. Please drop by to have a look any time you are in school, these are located in the link corridor leading off the atrium. These achievements can be big or small as we recognise that even what may appear as a small achievement to one person can be a huge success to another e.g. Learning to ride a bike or gaining a badge at swimming. In order to submit the information about your child’s out of school achievements, please complete the Google Form using the link below.  Please note the link will feature each week in our Friday newsletter and you are welcome to send in achievements at any time.

Achievements Outside of School Google Form

We will display your child’s name, details of their achievement and their house colour on the House Boards which we hope to fill with lots of wonderful achievements as we know so many of our children do fabulous things out with school.  As always, we would be very grateful for any feedback from parents/ carers in relation to this.

Nursery Newsletter 07.11.2025

Hello everyone,

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

Parent Appointments
Thank you for signing up for one of the appointments which will begin during week commencing 10th November. We look forward to this opportunity to share progress of learning and working together towards next steps for your child.

Children In Need: Friday 14th November
We are delighted to share details about our upcoming Children in Need Charity Event, taking place on Friday, 14th November. The week commencing 10th November will be filled with fun activities, and we are very excited for our activities and can’t wait to see everyone join in the fun while helping to make a difference! Fun at the Fayre
We’re getting ready for our Winter Fayre on Thursday 20th November and would love your support! We’re kindly asking for donations of home baking to sell at the event — please ensure all goodies are nut-free and that any allergens are clearly labelled. Please let us know as soon as possible if you will be able to donate any home baking the day before or on the day of the Fayre. The children and staff will also be busy in the kitchen, baking and cooking up tasty savoury treats as well as creating some beautiful festive artwork to sell. All funds raised will go towards supporting nursery resources and activities — thank you for your generosity and help in making our Winter Fayre a success!

The Great Outdoors
Outdoor play offers so many wonderful benefits for our nursery children! Spending time outside helps to build physical strength, coordination, and confidence, while also encouraging curiosity and imagination as children explore the natural world around them. Fresh air and open spaces provide opportunities for social interaction, problem-solving, and teamwork, as well as supporting overall wellbeing and a sense of calm. Whether it’s climbing, digging, or simply discovering something new, outdoor play is an important and joyful part of every child’s learning and development.

As the weather turns wetter and muddier, we’d like to remind families to please ensure that your child’s bag has a complete change of clothes, including socks and underwear, so they’re comfortable after outdoor play or any little accidents. We’re also looking for donations of preloved leggings or jogging bottoms in all sizes to keep in nursery for spare changes. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated and will help keep all our children warm, dry, and happy throughout the day!

Hedgehog Highway Heroes
The P7 Eco & Sustainability Group have been busy helping in nursery to create a Hedgehog Highway in our outdoor area. By making small gaps in fences and adding safe spaces for hedgehogs to explore, the children are helping these little creatures move freely between gardens in search of food and shelter. This exciting project has sparked lots of wonderful conversations in the nursery about conservation, animal habitats, and hibernation, encouraging our young learners to think about how we can all help protect wildlife in our local environment.

Family Learning Drop ins (Health and Well Being Focus) – Wednesday 19th November 3.00-4.00 or Thursday 20th November 4.00-5.00

We’d like to invite families to a drop-in session to chat about how we support children’s Health and Wellbeing in nursery. This is a great opportunity to learn more about how we help children make positive behaviour choices, build friendships, and develop important skills like empathy and self-regulation. Staff will be on hand to share ideas, answer questions, and offer practical tips for supporting wellbeing and positive behaviour at home and in nursery. We look forward to seeing you there!

Dates for your diary:
Winter Fayre 6.30-8.00 Thursday 20th November in the school building
Book Week Scotland 17th to 23rd November- ask your child about exciting learning experiences, new stories and songs.

Parent Council Meeting: 12th November
The next meeting of the school and nursery Parent Council will be at 7pm on Wednesday 12th November.  This will be in the Hub in the school.  We hope to see as many parents and carers as possible and as ever will hear from the school leadership team on a number of issues, with the opportunity for free and open discussion.  If there is anything you would particularly like us to raise at the meeting then please email netherleeparentcouncil@gmail.com.

Voluntary Contributions to Nursery Fund
Voluntary contributions to our nursery fund play a valuable role in enriching the experiences we can offer the children. While core activities are always provided, these contributions help us go further—supporting special resources, workshops, outings, and creative projects that spark curiosity and make learning even more exciting. Every contribution, no matter the size, directly benefits the children by providing opportunities that enhance their development and enjoyment at nursery. We appreciate your involvement and engagement with all aspects of nursery life and look forward to working with you again this year. Contributions can be made via ParentPay.  Thank you so much to those families who have already donated.

Achievements
We love celebrating the children’s achievements both in nursery and at home, and we’d be delighted if you could share special moments from outside of nursery too. Whether it’s learning a new skill, showing kindness, or simply making you proud, these experiences help us to build a fuller picture of your child’s development. Please feel free to send in photos, notes, or stories so we can share their successes with the nursery community and celebrate them together. Click on the Achievements link below to share achievements with us.

As always, we are always here to help in any way we can, whether that be about your own child or a more general matter in relation to the school or nursery.  We are also always looking for suggestions and new ideas so please don’t hesitate to get in touch at any time.

Have a wonderful weekend.

School Newsletter

Hello everyone,

We have had a fantastic first week back as staff and children reconnect with each other and re-establish trusting, warm relationships together.  It has been wonderful to see all the smiling, happy faces coming into school and nursery each morning. The staff team are taking the time to get to know your child, learn about their likes and dislikes and help settle them into life at Netherlee.

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to all new children and families who have recently joined Netherlee. I know that our existing parents will also look out for new faces at drop off and pick up times and will help where they can too to make sure everyone feels welcome and included.  Thank you for helping us to make Netherlee School & Nursery such a lovely, warm and welcoming community.

The roads and car parks are very busy at the start and end of each day, please remember when dropping off or collecting children, to be mindful of other adults and children, to only use official parking spaces and be respectful of local residents who require access to their home and street.

Please click on the link to our website where you will find more information about our school and nursery: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/.

Emails to School
Thank you for using our efficient email system to communicate with us.  For reasons of confidentiality, please note that myself and Alyson (Office Manager) are the only people who have access to this email. Please ensure you include your child’s name and class in the subject bar so that your email can be passed on to the appropriate person very quickly- thank you.

Social Media
In line with East Renfrewshire Council’s decision to no longer use X, our X account is no longer monitored. You can access our online content on our website. We will be back in touch soon with our new arrangements for sharing the work of the nursery and school.

PE Timetable
Please see  the PE/ Gym Day Timetable. On these days children should come to school in their full PE uniform please.  Our uniform policy can be found here which details, as a reminder, the Netherlee’s School Uniform List.  Please note that non-Netherlee badged PE uniform items eg joggers, shorts must not have any visible sports logos on them and should be plain navy only. Our children have returned to school looking extremely smart in their school uniform and I would like to thank you for the commitment and support with this.

Free School Meals Application
The application for free school meals for the 2025/26 session is now open. Although all Primary 1-5 children in Scotland automatically receive free school meals, we would like to encourage all our families to apply for this if you have additional circumstance that make you eligible. If you are eligible, (please see below), not only does your application ensure your child receives their school meals during term time, like all P1-5 children, but you will also receive a holiday meal payment over holiday periods and also clothing grant support.

You can apply online at www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/free-school-meals. There is guidance and a video guide to help you to complete the process.  If you are having any difficulties, please feel free to contact the team directly at cgfsmapply@eastrenfrewshire.go.uk.

Celebrating Diversity in Netherlee
We are very lucky that we have a wealth of diversity in our school community and we are committed to celebrating diversity and promoting equality across our curriculum and special events such as assemblies and Diversity Evening. In order to help us with this, if you have not already done so, we would like to invite you to share information about your child’s religion, ethnicity and additional spoken languages. This can be completed through ParentsPortal, if you wish to do so. Many thanks for your continued support.
