We always have spare ties in school that the children can wear, if needed. Nursery children can wear their normal nursery clothes.

Please see attached timetables, which details the days and times your child’s photograph is due to be taken. We hope the photographs will be a lovely memento of your child’s year in school and nursery.

Work Home
Your child will bring home pieces of literacy work and one other piece today to share with you over the weekend. We hope you enjoy looking over the work with your child and discussing their learning. Please could we ask that jotters are sent back into school on Monday. Thank you.

Community Events: Dyslexia Scotland Meeting
Please find attached information regarding Dyslexia and Apprenticeships Meeting on Wednesday 19th February.

Primary 4 Showcase – Uniform
As Primary 4 have their Love and Values Display of Learning on Wednesday morning at 9.30am, could all children please wear shirt and tie uniform into school that day. We look forward to seeing you there!

Primary 6/7: Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP)’
As part of the Health and Wellbeing curriculum all pupils in Primary 6 and 7 will be involved in a series of ‘Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP)’ lessons this term. This is part of ERC’s Health and Wellbeing programme and follows the National and RSHP guidelines. To give us the opportunity to discuss the resources and content of lessons with you before they are taught, we ask that you attend a short, informal evening presentation, in school. We will share the resources used and answer any questions you may have.

This will be the same P6 and P7 presentations as last year so if you attended for another sibling last year, whilst you are still very welcome, you may feel it is not necessary to attend.

We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 20th February:

  • P6 parents and carers should arrive at 6.30pm and the presentation will last approximately half an hour.
  • P7 parents and carers should arrive at 7.15pm and the presentation will last approximately half an hour.

Your attendance would be appreciated.

Primary 7c Baking
P7C have been working hard to earn points for their class team between Christmas and the February holiday. Excellent effort, listening and good behaviour are recognised and as a reward the winning group this time have chosen to bake. We are planning this for next Tuesday 11th February. Since we have just finished looking at the Second World War, we thought we would try and make tasty and healthy Welsh cakes, a popular recipe from that time. The children will make these before then eat them in class if they want to.

The ingredients are:

Plain flour, baking powder, margarine, eggs, small amount of caster sugar, sultanas, carrot, milk and nutmeg.

We have a record of any allergies and intolerances on file for all pupils, but if there is anything else we should be aware of, then please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.

As always, we are always here to help in any way we can, whether that be about your own child or a more general matter in relation to the school or nursery.  We are also always looking for suggestions and new ideas so please don’t hesitate to get in touch at any time.

Have a nice weekend.

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

Photos
To help create a homely atmosphere in the nursery setting, it is good to have photographs of family members in our role play and dining areas as you perhaps would have at home. Please send in any family photos that you would be happy to have on display in this way and look out for them in nursery.

Collection Times
If your child has a core attendance pattern of 9.00 a.m. to 3.00p.m. you will have seen that this can be a very busy transition time.  We appreciate your help to ensure that our children are calm and kept safe by ensuring that you collect your child by 3pm sharp please.  This ensures that the playrooms continue to run smoothly with ongoing learning through play for the rest of the children and that staff are available to share relevant information with you if needed etc.   Thank you.

It has been another busy week at nursery with many of you participating in Stay and Play sessions. We thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoyed your time with us playing, learning and even making new friends!

Head Lice
It is always a good idea to periodically check your child’s head for any little creepy crawlies. We have lots of useful information on this in our website so please click this link if it would be of help to you.

Community Events: Sports Classes
Participating in sport can have many positive impacts on children’s lives including developing life skills such as respect, responsibility, confidence, compassion and friendship- all in an active environment!

Diversity Evening
All families are invited along to celebrate our third Diversity Evening, which will be held on Thursday 30 January, from 6.30pm until 8pm. There will be musical and dance performances to enjoy as well as food tasting, crafts, information stalls and a showcase of the children’s learning from Diversity Month.

Almost all of the evening is free of charge however, our Primary 6’s will have a neurodiversity stall selling a range of fidget toys (priced at 50p) and there will also be a small charge for our delicious Derby ice cream. Of course, if you wish to make a small donation to the evening, all proceeds will be donated to the Scottish Refugee Council (SC008639), who are planning to visit and speak to the children on Friday 31 January. The charity will also have a stall on the evening if you wish to find out more.

I hope you will all be able to join us for part or all of the evening!

Chinese New Year Celebrations
Xīnnián kuàilè (Happy New Year)
A group of our wonderful children, from P1- P7 who celebrate Chinese New Year at home, has been helping to plan events and activities for our school and nursery to help us celebrate Chinese New Year.  This year we will celebrate this on Wednesday 29 January. On this day, children who celebrate this festival and tradition are invited to wear their traditional Chinese clothing, if this is something that is readily available to them or, if they do not have traditional clothing, they are welcome to wear an item of clothing (top, skirt or trousers) in one of the Chinese lucky colours, which this year are black, red and yellow.

Please note this is optional. All other children should wear their usual school uniform or nursery clothes on this day please.

As always, we are always here to help in any way we can, whether that be about your own child or a more general matter in relation to the school or nursery.  We are also always looking for suggestions and new ideas so please don’t hesitate to get in touch at any time.
