Hello everyone,

It has been another fun week at nursery with lots of learning through play. The children have been busy creating impressive structures in the block play, singing songs and exploring the process of creating art through a variety of materials. Outdoor play and fresh air has been popular as always. There certainly is a buzz about the nursery!

Festive Sing Along
We look forward to welcoming you to Saplings for our festive sing along on the dates below. We have two dates to facilitate allowing 2 parents per child to attend.
Tuesday 10th December at 10:30am: Butterflies, Deer, Badgers and Hedgehogs
Wednesday 11th December at 10:30am: Rabbits, Otters, Foxes, Squirrels and Owls
We politely request that you do not bring hot drinks in to the nursery building for Health and Safety reasons.

Special Books
Week Beginning 9th December, the children will be bring home their ‘Special Books’. We know how much you all appreciate looking at these together with your child and look forward to reading your comments in the books. To allow you plenty of time to look at these with the family, we would ask that all books are returned to us by Monday 16^th December.

Winter Fayre – Thank You
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Winter Fayre last week. It was a wonderful evening and as well as being a lot of fun, helped us to raise an amazing £3549.76. This money will go to our school and nursery funds and will be used, amongst other things, to help us to improve the play equipment children can use outdoors. Thank you again for supporting our community fayre and fundraising efforts.

School Registration
East Renfrewshire Council invites you to apply for a P1 catchment place for your child at the preferred primary school for school academic year 2025-26. You must apply for a place at your preferred catchment school even if you intend to make a placing request to another school; this ensures a place is held for your child in the event of an unsuccessful placing request. If you intend to educate your child privately or at home, you should still inform your local catchment school of your intention.

For P1 catchment school applications you can apply online via our online application form, which can be found on Council’s website at https://www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/apply-for-p1 where you will also find a copy of the Council’s school admissions policy.

Online applications should be made from 2 December 2024 until 19 January 2025. Any catchment applications after 19 January 2025 should continue to be submitted using the online form. However, it is advisable, where possible, to make your application by this date as this provides you with the optimum chance of securing a place in your preferred school.

Clothing & Lost Property
As the temperatures have dropped again recently it has highlighted the need for appropriate layers of warm and waterproof clothing for learning outdoors and indoors. Please take time to check that your child has a change of clothes, hat and gloves when coming to nursery. If you wish to leave your child’s wellies in nursery, please make sure they are named. If you are having a clear out and have any spare gloves or mittens, we would gladly recycle them for you. Please just hand them in to one of our staff. They will be well used in this cold weather.  Our ’Lost Property’ items are growing. Please have a look next time you have a few minutes – you might find a long lost piece of clothing!

Scottish Artwork
Thank you to everyone who came along to the fayre and supported our school and nursery fundraising activity.  The evening was a great success. If you weren’t able to make it along and would still like to collect your child’s piece of Scottish Artwork, and make a suggested donation of £2,  they will be available at the Saplings entrance all next week- from Mon 2^nd Dec – Fri 6^th Dec, please just ask a member of staff at drop off or pick up time.

Nursery Festive Party: Wednesday 18^th December
If your child does not normally attend on this day, they are invited to join their friends for festive fun between 9.30-11.30a.m on that day.

Friday 20^th December
Although the school closes at 2.30p.m on Friday 20^th December, the nursery will remain open for routine hours until 6.00pm.

It has been a chilly week with lots of opportunities for outdoor learning about changing weather conditions and the wonder of mark making on frosty surfaces!  Many stories have been told, read and written this week. Bookbug sessions were fantastic as always. This week the Bookbug session was in Gaelic. Our visitor, Ishbel Campbell, introduced vocabulary for colours and numbers to 5. Ask the children to share their learning with the family. I have chatted to quite a few of you at the gate and door and am practising all the new names. Thank you for your warm welcome!

Book Bug
We would love you or one of your family members to join us for one of our Bookbug sessions during week beginning 25^th November.  Younger siblings are also more than welcome to attend these lively, interactive sessions with Joanne and Lynne.
