Nursery Newsletter 12.02.2026

Hello everyone,

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

Special Books and Care Plans
A gentle reminder to parents and carers to please return any special books and updated care plans so we can continue supporting your children effectively- thank you.

Out and About
As part of our learning, we place great value on getting out into the community to give children real-life experiences — such as practising safe road crossing, visiting local shops and using money, and exploring nearby green spaces while observing wildlife habitats. We are excited to continue our community “Wellie Walks,” which help bring this learning to life, and we warmly welcome any parents or carers who would like to join us to share these experiences and support the children. The school office will email you when your child has a planned outing coming up; these visits are covered by the local area consent form completed when your child joined nursery.

Parent Focus Group
Thank you so much to the parents who have already suggested a suitable time and method for gathering parental views on our improvement process. If you would be willing to work with the nursery team on planning improvements for the nursery, please complete the short form using the link to set up a suitable day and time. We would appreciate your input to our continuing improvements – Continuous Improvement Focus Group Form

The Lion King – Show Programme Adverts for Sale
Do you have a business? We need you! We are looking to raise funds for our Primary 7 school show by selling advertising space within our programme. If you are interested, please read the attached flyer and follow the link.

Voluntary Contributions to Nursery Fund
Voluntary contributions to our nursery fund play a valuable role in enriching the experiences we can offer the children. While core activities are always provided, these contributions help us go further—supporting special resources, workshops, outings, and creative projects that spark curiosity and make learning even more exciting. Every contribution, no matter the size, directly benefits the children by providing opportunities that enhance their development and enjoyment at nursery. We appreciate your involvement and engagement with all aspects of nursery life and look forward to working with you again this year. Contributions can be made via ParentPay.  Thank you so much to those families who have already donated.

Achievements
We love celebrating the children’s achievements both in nursery and at home, and we’d be delighted if you could share special moments from outside of nursery too. Whether it’s learning a new skill, showing kindness, or simply making you proud, these experiences help us to build a fuller picture of your child’s development. Please feel free to send in photos, notes, or stories so we can share their successes with the nursery community and celebrate them together. Click on the Achievements link below to share achievements with us.

Closed and Nursery Closed Reminder
The school and nursery will be closed on Friday 13th February, Monday 16th February and Tuesday 17th February. We hope you have a restful, fun break and look forward to hearing all about it when we return from Wednesday 18th February.

Lunar New Year
We would like to wish any families celebrating Lunar New Year a fabulous time.

As always, we are always here to help in any way we can, whether that be about your own child or a more general matter in relation to the school or nursery.  We are also always looking for suggestions and new ideas so please don’t hesitate to get in touch at any time.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Thank You for Sharing
This week we have had parents sharing stories and teaching us new vocabulary in several languages from Polish, Lithuanian, Kurdish, French, Welsh, Scots, Urdu, Arabic and are looking forward to learning Icelandic and Japanese. Thank you so much for sharing your time and celebrating many of the languages spoken at home.

Diversity Evening
We are looking forward to welcoming our families in on Wednesday 11 February for our annual Diversity evening from 6.30pm- 8pm. There are so many exciting performances, workshops, food stalls and information areas. The evening is free to attend and there will only be payments required at two stalls: the ice cream and neurodiversity stalls. Of course, if you would like to make a donation, this can be done at the food tasting area. All proceeds from the evening will be made payable to a charity, which the P7 Diversity Department will decide and communicate with you. We really hope you can make it!

Chinese New Year Celebrations
Xīnnián kuàilè (Happy New Year)
A group of our wonderful children, from P1- P7 who celebrate Chinese New Year at home, has been helping to plan events and activities for our school and nursery to help us celebrate Chinese New Year.  This year we will celebrate this on Thursday 12 February. On this day, children who celebrate this festival and tradition are invited to wear their traditional Chinese clothing, if this is something that is readily available to them or, if they do not have traditional clothing, they are welcome to wear an item of clothing (top, skirt or trousers) in one of the Chinese lucky colours, which this year are black, red and yellow. Please note this is optional.

If you do not celebrate this festival, children should wear their usual school uniform or nursery clothes on this day please.

Parental Focus Group
We have been working very hard as a staff team to make improvements to our nursery environments.  If you would be willing to work with the nursery team on planning further improvements for the nursery, please complete the short form using the link to set up a suitable day and time. We would appreciate your input to our continuing improvements.

Special Books and Care Plans
We would politely remind all parents/carers that it is very important to return ‘Special Books’ and individual Care Plans so that the staff team can continue to record all learning progress and agreed next steps. The children love to add quotes to their special books and often look at them with their peers, describing and revisiting cherished memories of interesting learning experiences.

Community Outings
If your child is going to Linn Park or out on a ‘Wellie Wander Walk’ or on an trip to the local shops, the school office will email you beforehand to let you know. You have already given consent for these local outings when joining the nursery. If you would like to volunteer some time to accompany any of our outings, please let Mrs Toman or the team know at drop off or collection time. We aim to work in partnership with parents/carers as often as possible.

Lending Library
Please take time to look through some of the fantastic books on offer in the foyer, pop your choice in one of the waterproof bookbags and enjoy at home!

Community Events: Library Activities
The library service has some exciting activities planned for children in February. Some of these events will take place during the mid-term break, so come along and enjoy the library with your little ones! Children and Young People | East Renfrewshire Culture & Leisure

Keeping Children Safe Online Webinar
The internet can be a wonderful place for children and young people, from helping with school research reports, to communicating with teachers and friends, and playing interactive games. But the online world also comes with risks, like inappropriate content, cyberbullying and scams. In partnership with Police Scotland’s Cybercrime Harm Prevention Team, Parenting Across Scotland is hosting a virtual event for parents and carers on the 25th February 2026. They will be joined by representatives from Education Scotland who will discuss concerns about the use of technology in schools and digital awareness in the curriculum. The event will explore how you can help keep yourself and your loved ones safe whilst online – there will be a short presentations by Police Scotland and Education Scotland followed by the opportunity to ask questions.

Celebrating Children’s Achievements
We always enjoy celebrating our children’s achievements, both in and out of school however, this session, we are making some changes to this process after speaking to groups of children and getting feedback from them.

Any out of school and any in-school achievements will now be displayed proudly on our lovely new House display boards. Please drop by to have a look any time you are in school, these are located in the link corridor leading off the atrium. These achievements can be big or small as we recognise that even what may appear as a small achievement to one person can be a huge success to another e.g. Learning to ride a bike or gaining a badge at swimming. In order to submit the information about your child’s out of school achievements, please complete the Google Form using the link below.  Please note the link will feature each week in our Friday newsletter and you are welcome to send in achievements at any time.

Achievements Outside of School Google Form

No photographs are required. We will display your child’s name, details of their achievement and their house colour on the House Boards which we hope to fill with lots of wonderful achievements as we know so many of our children do fabulous things out with school.  As always, we would be very grateful for any feedback from parents/ carers in relation to this.

Primary 7: Fundraising Fun Run
To help raise funds for our upcoming production of The Lion King, Primary 7 pupils will be taking part in a sponsored fun run on Friday 27th February.

The children will run for 20 minutes around the pitch and playground, challenging themselves to complete as many laps of the course as possible. Sponsorship forms have already been given out and should be in your child’s bag. We would greatly appreciate your support in helping them raise money to contribute towards props, costumes and other production costs.

Please return all completed sponsorship forms by Monday 2nd March. Cash donations can be sent in an envelope to the class teacher, clearly labelled with your child’s name and the total amount enclosed. Alternatively, a payment link will be available on ParentPay from Monday 23rd February for those who wish to donate digitally.

Thank you very much for your continued support of our upcoming production.

Kind regards,

Happy Hanukkah!
Wishing you and your family a warm and joyful Hanukkah!
May each candle you light bring more peace, hope, and happiness into your home, and may the season be filled with love, laughter, and meaningful moments together.

Chag Sameach!

Diversity Month and Diversity Evening
I can’t believe we are already thinking ahead to learning in the New Year! Monday 19 January 2026 marks the start of our school and nursery’s Diversity celebrations with Diversity Evening being held on Wednesday 11 February from 6.30pm -8pm.

Last year we were incredibly lucky that so many of you volunteered your time to come in and work with our children in both school and nursery. We would love to welcome you in again in the new year. You are welcome to visit and share your home language (teaching basic phrases or reading a book in your home language), culture and religion as well as any particular skills you have i.e. cultural cooking, dance, sport. If you have experience of a neurodiversity, work for a charity, which you feel would enhance children’s understanding of socio-economic diversity, or you work in a workplace that is typically dominated by one gender, Mrs Linn would really love to hear from you.

Space for stalls at our annual Diversity evening are also available- you could be selling some homemade cooking, crafts or sharing information about your religion or heritage. The possibilities are endless!

Please email Mrs Linn at SchoolMail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk if you are able to help, if you would like to discuss an idea you have or if you have any further questions.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Special Books
Could we ask that any families who still have ‘Special Books’ at home, please return them to the nursery over the next week so that we can work with the children to add even more experiences. Thank you for adding parental comments in these books: the children really enjoy sharing their learning in this way.

Stay and Play Sessions
Our recent stay-and-play and sing-along sessions were very well attended, and we loved seeing so many families join in the fun. We truly value the thoughtful feedback shared by parents and will use it to keep making our sessions even better. To all families in the Netherlee community celebrating Christmas or Hanukkah, we wish you a joyful and fabulous festive season.

Early Finish
Although the school closes at 2.30pm on Friday 19th December, the nursery will remain open for routine hours until 6pm
