Uploading Homework to Google Classroom
Please find attached a guide to uploading homework to Google Classroom. If you are still experiencing difficulties in doing this please do not email any presentations, instead ensure that your child has logged in to GLOW then either add their presentation to their Google Drive or One Drive. Once they have done this they should open the document/presentation and click share. This will then let them share their homework with their teacher. Their teacher will then be able to access this in school.

Community Events: Girls Football Class
East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure run a Girls Football Class on Mondays at Mearns Primary from 6.15pm-7.15pm. Led by a coaching team, the class uses a fun games based approach to enjoy the beautiful game.  If your child is interested in joining the class, you can book a free taster session now: https://ercl.classforkids.io/info/45

P1 Nativity Rehearsals
It’s that time of year again! Nativity rehearsals have started and we are getting very excited. All P1 children were given the choice of whether to have a speaking part or not. If your child requested a speaking part, then their lines will be sent home in their school bag.  We would be so grateful if you could please help them to practise their words at home too, thank you.

For week beginning 9th December, please send your child to school in their PE uniform every day until after the nativity show is over. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 12th December for our 9.30 am performance.

Primary 4-7: Church Service
Our Church Service will be at Netherlee Church on Friday 13th December 2024. The service will start at 11.15 a.m. and will last approximately one hour. Parents of the children performing in the choir, as a reader or a musician have been invited to come along on the day if they can.

As always, we would encourage parents/carers to allow all children to attend the service in the church. In school we learn about All World Religions. Children do not require to pray or sing if attending but do benefit from attending with friends and this church service offers another opportunity to learn about religious traditions and celebrations.

Any parents/carers who DO NOT wish their children to attend the church service must notify the school office by Friday 6th December 2024 please. We need to finalise the numbers of children not attending by this date to arrange suitable staff ratios between school and church. Therefore, unfortunately if the office staff are not informed by this date (6th December 2024), we will assume that your child will be attending the church service and will plan accordingly for this and we are not able to make any changes to church attendance after this date 6th December).

P6c Baking
The children in Primary 6c would like to make shortbread next week. We will be using a few simple ingredients;

  • Unsalted butter
  • Plain flour
  • Caster sugar

Please advise us if there are any changes to the allergy information we hold for your child.

Primary 7: S1 Transfer Forms
P7 to S1 Transfer Forms have been issued out this week via Royal Mail by our admissions team.  Can these please be returned to the Netherlee school office, completed and signed as soon as possible.

For catchment applications, you will receive an acknowledgement email where you will find the link to upload the evidence required.  Please ensure to quote the reference number within the email.  Evidence required is this current year’s council tax, and a utility bill dated within the last month.  Can the utility bill clearly show name, address and the date within the last month.

For out with Williamwood catchment applications, should you wish your child to attend a secondary school within East Renfrewshire Council, you are required to submit a placing request.  An application can be submitted online using the following link: https://www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/placing-requests

A placing request for August 2025 should be submitted between 1 December 2024 and 31 January 2025. Applications received after 31 January 2025 will be treated as late applications. Applications received before 15 March 2025 will be notified, in writing, of the decision at the end of April 2025.

It is important that you make contact with your Local Authority if you are out with East Renfrewshire Council to register your child for their High School.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Nursery Newsletter 22.11.24

Hello everyone,

It has been a chilly week with lots of opportunities for outdoor learning about changing weather conditions and the wonder of mark making on frosty surfaces!  Many stories have been told, read and written this week. Bookbug sessions were fantastic as always. This week the Bookbug session was in Gaelic. Our visitor, Ishbel Campbell, introduced vocabulary for colours and numbers to 5. Ask the children to share their learning with the family. I have chatted to quite a few of you at the gate and door and am practising all the new names. Thank you for your warm welcome!

Collection
We appreciate that you ‘park’ any buggies/strollers just inside the main entrance when dropping off and collecting children. We would politely ask that older siblings who may be with you at collection time to stay just inside the main entrance too. This helps us to safely sustain play spaces throughout these transition times. Thanks for your help with this.

Health Visitor App
We’ve been asked to share information about a new Health Visiting app released for all parents of children aged 0-5.  The attached information has QR codes to download the app Right Decisions.  From there you can download Happy Healthy Tots. It gives a range of information from a guide to Health Visitor visits, health and wellbeing and local information.

Psychology of Parenting Project (PoPP)
The following PoPP Sway shares information on the availability of PoPP groups within East Renfrewshire during 2024. These groups are for any parents/carers who have children 2-12 years and are interesting in extending their knowledge of how to manage behaviour. https://sway.cloud.microsoft/gWOLYNyk1D3CLLGg

St. Andrews Day
If you have a wee tartan something to add to your child’s outfit on Friday 29th November, please do so. There will be learning opportunities throughout the day to find out about traditions and celebrations linked to St Andrew.

St Andrew’s Day Art
To mark St Andrew’s Day every child has created a piece of Scottish themed artwork. This will be available for you to take home from the Winter Fayre on Thursday 6.30-8pm. Farewell from Mrs Kerr
As my post at Netherlee comes to an end, I would like to thank everyone for their kind words, support and kindness over the last 12 years.  We are so lucky in Netherlee to have such wonderful children, supportive staff and welcoming families, and it’s this that makes Netherlee truly special and leaving more difficult. I’m really excited about starting my new job on Monday and certainly won’t forget the Netherlee years.

We’re delighted to let you know that Miss Elliott has been successful in securing an Acting Principal Teacher post here at Netherlee. She will start her new role on Monday 11th November and we’re sure she will do a fantastic job!

Adverse Weather Guidance
Please click on the link to read important information regarding this.

Winter Fayre – Tombola Collection
Ahead of the Winter Fayre, the PTA will be taking collections for the Tombola on Friday 22nd November. There will be representatives from the PTA at each of the gates to receive any donations. To mark the occasion, children can come to school with Crazy Hair. Please note, they should wear their normal school uniform.

Pupil Parliament Day of Action Sway
Our Pupil Parliament Day of Climate Action last month was a great success. All classes in our school and nursery had the opportunity to learn about the importance of biodiversity and the impact humans can have on our environment. We also had a focus on adding plant life and flowers to our greenspaces and playgrounds to provide habitats for pollinators and insects. Our Communications Team worked together to take photos of the amazing learning experiences which took place and we have created a Sway to share highlights from this event with you: https://sway.cloud.microsoft/QlgN7e6lEk4wOgta?ref=Link. We hope you enjoy looking at this.

Jotters Home
We hope that you enjoy looking at your child’s literacy jotter. Please remember to pop it back in their schoolbag as they will need it on Monday in school.  Thank you.

Primary 1 Leadership Change
We have had a slight change to the leadership stage heads. Currently the stage head for Primary 1 is Mrs Angela Kerr, from Monday 11th November this will be Mrs Jackie Toman. As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Primary 2 Food Hygiene
Over the next week, Primary 2 classes will be learning about food hygiene, preparation and cooking skills. We intend to use a variety of ingredients to make a delicious soup. If your child has any allergies that you have not already made us aware of, please let us know.   The proposed ingredients are: vegetable stock (used in our school kitchen and allergen checked already), potatoes, carrots, leeks and turnip.

Primary 3 Leadership Change
We have had a slight change to the leadership stage heads. Currently the stage head for Primary 3 is Mrs Jackie Toman, from Monday 11th November this will be Miss Taylor Elliott. As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Primary 4 Leadership Change
We have had a slight change to the leadership stage heads. Currently the stage head for Primary 4 is Mrs Jackie Toman, from Monday 11th November this will be Mrs Kelly Linn. As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Primary 5b Class Teacher
We’re delighted to let you know that Miss Elliott has been successful in securing an Acting Principal Teacher post here at Netherlee. She will start her new role on Monday 11th November and we’re sure she will do a fantastic job! Your child’s class will be taken on by Miss Erin Stevens, who has previously been a P5 teacher in Netherlee.  Miss Elliott will continue to be in class for the full week next week with Miss Stevens to ensure a robust hand over for the children, and then she will continue to take the class 2 days a week (Thursday/Friday) moving forwards. This should help to ensure continuity within the class.  Miss Stevens is really looking forward to working with the children in P5b!

Primary 6 Movie
Primary 6 have been enjoying reading ‘Wonder’ by R.J Palacio in class and would like to watch the movie. The movie covers themes of anti-bullying and kindness and we feel that this experience would add value to the children’s learning, as we will be able to compare and contrast the two types of media (book and film). We would like to watch this, week beginning 25th November. As ‘Wonder’ has a PG rating, we need to let you know that we would like to watch the movie in class. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school before the 22nd November.

Have a wonderful weekend.
