Nursery Newsletter 20.02.2026

Hello everyone,

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

Reporting your Child’s Absence- Before 9am please
This is a gentle reminder that if your child is going to be absent from school or nursery, please contact the office by phone on 0141 570 7260 or by email before 9am please, including a brief reason for your child’s absence eg sick overnight, temperature, sore throat etc. This information helps us monitor patterns of illness within the school and nursery and allows us to be alert to any potential infectious conditions such as chickenpox. Your support helps us keep our school and nursery community healthy and ensures we can account for all children safely and quickly each day.

Parent Focus Group
Thank you so much to the parents who have already suggested a suitable time and method for gathering parental views on our improvement process.  If you would be willing to work with the nursery team on planning improvements for the nursery, please complete the short form using the link to set up a suitable day and time. We would appreciate your input to our continuing improvements. Continuous Improvement Focus Group – Fill in form

Lovely Lunches
A calm, unhurried lunchtime environment is a powerful opportunity for children to build independence and social confidence. When children can choose when to come to lunch, decide who to sit with, and serve themselves, they practise making decisions, managing simple tasks, and listening to their own needs in a supportive setting. This relaxed pace encourages children to feel capable and secure, helping them develop positive relationships and a sense of responsibility. Lunchtime is also a valuable social learning moment — children practise turn-taking in conversation, expand their vocabulary, and share ideas with both their friends and the staff team, strengthening communication skills that support learning across the day.

Netherlee Nursery Class provides a hot lunch for the children the 3 weekly rolling menu can be accessed using the following link: https://www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/article/1223/Nursery-lunch-menu

If you wish to provide your child with a packed lunch please see this website which provides nutritious lunch ideas and inspiration.

We would also request that you place an ice pack in the packed lunch to keep cold foods at low temperature. If providing grapes or cherry tomatoes please ensure these are quartered length ways to minimise choking opportunities.

World Book Day – Thursday 5th March
We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March across the school and nursery. The aim of the day is to have fun whilst reading and so on the day we are inviting children to dress up as a character from a book (no masks please). As a proud Eco Green Flag school and nursery, we kindly ask our families to have fun and be creative by create their costumes or props using items already at home, recycling materials or by adapting everyday clothing. For example, costumes can be a simple dress using clothes from home or made from recycled or reused materials (cardboard, paper, fabric). Some children may prefer to simply wear their school uniform or normal nursery clothes and just bring in an interesting prop from a favourite book instead.  We can’t wait to see what the children come up with.  Thank you for supporting this and for helping us make World Book Day both fun and environmentally friendly too. On the day each child will also receive a £1 World Book Day book token which can be used at participating bookshops and supermarkets. We are looking forward to having lots of fun whilst celebrating reading for pleasure on this day.

Voluntary Contributions to Nursery Fund
Voluntary contributions to our nursery fund play a valuable role in enriching the experiences we can offer the children. While core activities are always provided, these contributions help us go further—supporting special resources, workshops, outings, and creative projects that spark curiosity and make learning even more exciting. Every contribution, no matter the size, directly benefits the children by providing opportunities that enhance their development and enjoyment at nursery. We appreciate your involvement and engagement with all aspects of nursery life and look forward to working with you again this year. Contributions can be made via ParentPay.  Thank you so much to those families who have already donated.

Achievements
We love celebrating the children’s achievements both in nursery and at home, and we’d be delighted if you could share special moments from outside of nursery too. Whether it’s learning a new skill, showing kindness, or simply making you proud, these experiences help us to build a fuller picture of your child’s development. Please feel free to send in photos, notes, or stories so we can share their successes with the nursery community and celebrate them together. Community Event: National Gaelic Week Celebrations
We are pleased to share details of a Gaelic Café taking place this Saturday, 28th, at Thornliebank Primary, home of our Gaelic Medium Provision in East Renfrewshire. Families are warmly invited to drop in, enjoy a cuppa and some home baking, and learn a few Gaelic words and phrases in a relaxed and friendly setting. There will also be activities available for children throughout the morning, making it a lovely opportunity for everyone to get involved.

As always, we are always here to help in any way we can, whether that be about your own child or a more general matter in relation to the school or nursery.  We are also always looking for suggestions and new ideas so please don’t hesitate to get in touch at any time.

Have a wonderful weekend.
