Road Safety
As you know we actively encourage as many children as possible to walk or cycle to school whenever possible.  With this in mind, some local residents would appreciate considerate parking and safe driving in the streets surrounding the school and nursery please. A specific request for courteous parking on Leewood Drive connecting Nethercliffe Avenue and Netherburn Avenue to reduce any obstructions to pedestrians and emergency vehicles whilst also helping everyone to keep safe. We appreciate your support with this matter.

Pre-loved Donations
As a proud Eco Green Flag school, we are always looking for sustainable ways to source the items we need for learning both in school and outdoors. We would be very grateful for any donations of good-quality items that could be reused within the school. By giving these items a new life, we can reduce waste and continue to promote our commitment to caring for the environment. We would gratefully receive any of the items from our wish list below to help with this activity. If you have, and are finished with, any of these types of items, please place any donations in our Recycled Donations Box situated at the main school office entrance from the 10th November. Nursery Registration for 2026/2027
East Renfrewshire Council invites you to apply for a nursery place for your child for 2026-27. Applications open from 1st December.  Families of returning children may also wish to apply for a change of days etc, having not been able to secure their preferred pattern of attendance.  The online application will close around the end of January.  https://www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/early-learning-and-childcare

P1 Applications
East Renfrewshire Council invites you to apply for a P1 catchment place for your child at the preferred primary school for school academic year 2026-27. You must apply for a place at your preferred catchment school even if you intend to make a placing request to another school; this ensures a place is held for your child in the event of an unsuccessful placing request. If you intend to educate your child privately or at home, you should still inform your local catchment school of your intention.

For P1 catchment school applications you can apply online via our online application form, which can be found on Council’s website at https://www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/apply-for-p1 where you will also find a copy of the Council’s school admissions policy.

Online applications should be made from 1st December 2025 until 19th January 2026. Any catchment applications after 19th January 2026 should continue to be submitted using the online form. However, it is advisable, where possible; to make your application by this date as this provides you with the optimum chance of securing a place in your preferred school.

Catchment applicants must submit documentary evidence to validate the catchment application, including the child’s birth certificate, a child benefit statement where appropriate, the most recent copy of Council Tax Notice, most recent mortgage statement or tenancy agreement and recent utility bill. If your child is of Roman Catholic faith, as evidenced by a Roman Catholic baptismal certificate, and you are applying for a place in a Roman Catholic denominational school, you should also provide the Roman Catholic baptismal certificate.

Parents/carers are required to submit their documentary evidence digitally via an online portal.  Guidance advising how evidence can be submitted will be provided in the automated response email, which parents/carers will receive only once a catchment application has been submitted.

Should any parent/carer not be able to apply for a catchment school place online or submit digital versions of the required documentary evidence, please contact School Admissions (details below), for further guidance.

Deferred school entry and eligibility from 1 August 2026: Catchment Residents
If your child will not be 5 years old on 1 August 2026, your child is entitled to another year of fully funded early learning and childcare. You need to let us know if you want to defer your child’s entry to school so that we can allocate them another year at nursery; even if deferring your child’s entry to P1 you must submit a P1 application and record your request to defer.

Should deferral applicants decide at a later date that they wish for their child to commence their primary education in August 2026, the School Admissions team should be advised of this as soon as possible.  Late P1 applicants will be less likely to be allocated a P1 place at the preferred catchment school. If you wish your child to remain on their current attendance pattern this will automatically continue.  If you wish to apply for a new pattern, you should also submit a new nursery application before the end of January 2026.  It should be noted that new applications will be considered as priority 4 applications and there is no guarantee that requests will be granted.

For more information on deferring entry to school visit the Council’s website https://eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/article/1334/Apply-for-primary-1.

Celebrating Children’s Achievements
We always enjoy celebrating our children’s achievements, both in and out of school however, this session, we are making some changes to this process after speaking to groups of children and getting feedback from them.

Any out of school and any in-school achievements will now be displayed proudly on our lovely new House display boards. Please drop by to have a look any time you are in school, these are located in the link corridor leading off the atrium. These achievements can be big or small as we recognise that even what may appear as a small achievement to one person can be a huge success to another e.g. Learning to ride a bike or gaining a badge at swimming. In order to submit the information about your child’s out of school achievements, please complete the Google Form using the link below.  Please note the link will feature each week in our Friday newsletter and you are welcome to send in achievements at any time.

Achievements Outside of School Google Form

No photographs are required. We will display your child’s name, details of their achievement and their house colour on the House Boards which we hope to fill with lots of wonderful achievements as we know so many of our children do fabulous things out with school.  As always, we would be very grateful for any feedback from parents/ carers in relation to this.

Primary 2: Book Advent
For December, we would like to share some of our favourite stories. If you would like to take part in a Book Advent Calendar then please bring in one of your favourite storybooks that we can read altogether as a class. If you can, please wrap up your book and we will number it. Each day someone will get to unwrap and unveil the book! Please bring your book in on Monday 1st December.  This is entirely optional so only take part if you want to.  You will have a chance to choose a book from our class library if you prefer. Please also remember that depending on when we open your book, you might not get it back home until 19th December. It would also be a good idea to pop your name somewhere on your book. We can’t wait to share some stories together!

Primary 5: Winter Theme Hub Time
Primary 5 will be exploring a Winter theme for their Hub time during December. As part of this we will be baking spiced winter biscuits in our class group each week. The ingredient list is as follows: butter, caster sugar (small quantity), cinnamon, ground ginger, plain flour, cornflour and icing sugar to decorate (optional).  We have taken account of your child’s dietary requirements however, if this needs updated, please contact the school office at your earliest convenience.

Primary 5c: Class Update
We are delighted to share the news that Mrs Pam Clark will be returning from her maternity leave on Monday 15th December. Mrs Clark is popping in to school on Tuesday 2nd December to say hello to the class. Mrs Clark will work every Monday, Tuesday and alternate Wednesdays. Your child will continue to be taught by Miss MacInnes on alternate Wednesdays, and every Thursday and Friday. We are very much looking forward to welcoming Mrs Clark back into school and know she is excited about her return and working with your children.

Community Events: East Renfrewshire A Place to Grow
Across East Renfrewshire Council we are seeking to gather the views of as many parents as possible to help shape our services. We would be grateful if you could complete the survey
Being a Parent in East Renfrewshire Survey by 30th November.

Community Events: Parental Hub – 3rd December
Work East Ren and MART will be at the Cart Mill Family Centre Parental Hub on Wednesday 3rd December between 9am-1pm. Please drop in if you wish to discuss anything from part time work, term time roles, and training. Work East Ren advisers, Naomi and Lucy can support with accessing jobs that offer school hours and relevant training to access roles within schools and nurseries along with any advice and guidance around Employability and work. There is also support for parents that are in work and looking for a change, or to upskill.

Please drop into Cart Mill on 3rd December if you wish to have a chat with the team.

In the New Year, there will be access to Paediatric First Aid along with other courses, to be able to participate in these; you need to be linked in with Work East Ren. The Financial Inclusion Officer will also be in attendance, Tracey sits within the MART team (Money, Advice and Rights team) and is here to offer support specifically to parents around benefits, debt, Christmas financial worries or any questions or queries parents may have around financial inclusion. Due to previous busy Hubs, if you wish to speak to an adviser- we ask that you allow enough time and would consider arriving no later than 12.30.

As always, we are always here to help in any way we can, whether that be about your own child or a more general matter in relation to the school or nursery.  We are also always looking for suggestions and new ideas so please don’t hesitate to get in touch at any time.

Have a wonderful weekend.
