We completed some whole class lessons on Time to consolidate our learning. St Ninian’s Math Department came to our class and we completed a ‘Murder Mystery’ Maths Challenge with them. Mishika and Daniel represented P7 as part of the Maths Challenge competition.

RE – P7 Confirmandi received the sacrament of Confirmation this month. We also went to St Cadoc’s Church to attend Mass recently, it was wonderful to be back in the church. We are attending the Thanksgiving Mass this week to celebrate all of the children who have received their sacrament this year from P4 and P7. It has been the month of May and we have taken time to pray to Mary each day.

HWB – During PE we did some Danish Longball and we did some Handball. We have also been doing Tennis and Rounders. Some of us got to take part in PE at St Ninian’s we all experienced different sports. To further develop our learning we created posters of our learning to be a part of our new wall display in class.

HWB/RE/ Committees – We have been learning and having philosophical discussions about Lent and the Stations of the Cross. This has included reflecting on who was there to help Jesus and trying to make connections within our own lives when we have been supportive, or shown love and gentleness in times where we have been met with adversity. On Friday, we will go around the Stations of the Cross with Canon Eddie in the playground and further reflect on this important time within the Liturgical Calendar. We also learned whom missionaries are and made our own Missionary flags. When we learned about Missionary work through the charity Missio we realised how we are all missionaries and each have an important role in our lives to spread love and help others who are in need. Our committee work has linked very well with our RE and HWB lessons, we took time to create Jamboards and posters linking with the UNCRC and Global Goals. Some of us made PowerPoints that we presented to the class too. This cross-curricular experience allowed us to realise what a good committee member is and what their most important entities are which have parallels to that of the Missionary work we were learning about within RE. We also engage in a class debate linking to the most recent Picture News where the focus was freedom of speech and Gary Linekar. We are looking forward to doing more debating next term with Ms Clark. Ramadan has started, this is a significant time for pupils who are fasting and promoting acts of kindness such as charity for their Muslim faith.

P7c November and December Class Blog

P7c have just recently performed their Advent Assembly for friends and families, the pupils would like to thank all who attended. It was lovely to see the hard work from rehearsal practices come to fruition on the day. Since we have completed our Advent Assembly there have been other opportunities to be involved in the Advent celebrations across the school for pupils within P7c. “Some people got picked to be narrator for the nursery nativity”, Keira.

During Health and Wellbeing we have had input from Healthier Minds who have been supporting us with ways to cope with anxiety. Within these lessons, we have learned about the brain and practiced useful techniques to help us return to our baseline or find calm when we begin to feel anxious. We have also been taking part in athletics, team games, Scottish Country Dancing and most recently learning about the functionality of body specifically our muscles and joints during PE. We linked our PE with Science this week taking part in a variety of experiments looking at the impact of voluntary and involuntary muscles on our bodies. We also had input from Eczema Outreach Support who helped us gain a greater insight and awareness of the impact eczema has on people’s day-to-day lives.

In literacy, the pupils have been focussing on poetry creating beautiful personal choice and Autumnal poems. P7c been leading their own learning and decided they wanted to write a letter to the residents of a care home as part of their “lifting other people’s spirits” focus during Advent. The completed letters will be sent to Whitecraigs Care Home and we are very thankful to Niamh’s mum for helping to organise this for us. P7c have also been putting their formal letter writing skills to use once more as we write letters to Bishop John in preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Following on with some more Christmas cheer, we worked very hard to complete our Christmas crafts for the St Cadoc’s Christmas Fayre, we still have a few left if you are looking to brighten up your tree J. “Lifting spirits is lifting hearts”, Umaiza.

P7c were also selected to create digital Christmas cards, the chosen design will be sent out as an e-card to every school and nursery within East Renfrewshire.

P7c have continued to work on the class WW2 IDL topic and are busy completing their novel study, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Before the end of term, we hope to watch the movie too. We had a wonderful input from a historian who spoke to us about the British Indian Army.

In maths we have been working on scale and using our knowledge of operations to create and replicate accurate diagrams which is part of developing the work force as some of us are interested in careers as engineers and architects where these skills are used. “Math is awesome!” Jenson.

We wish all of our friends, family and staff at St Cadoc’s a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

P7c Class Blog

P7c have been really enjoying Bike-ability this term, the class have been practising every week to ensure they are using their skills to stay safe on the roads.“ We learned how to signal when turning and to make sure we look before and after we signal and turn”, Subhan. “When we did Bike-ability we managed to improve our teamwork, speed control and caution”, Umaiza.

We all attended the St Cadoc’s Dance-a-Thon, it was an excellent opportunity to be active and to raise funds for the school. We are full of anticipation for Ninja Warrior.

Some of the pupils in P7c attended the badminton try outs and were successful in becoming part of the St Cadoc’s School Badminton Team.

We have been working very hard to develop their athletics and fitness abilities during this current PE block.

P7c pupils have also been leading the prayers at The St Cadoc’s Rosary Club, it has been wonderful to see friends and families come to support us each Tuesday morning.

P7c have been demonstrating effective leadership skills while supporting staff with P2 monitoring and also wet play monitoring.

Many of the class auditioned for talent show we were happy to both take part and support their peers throughout the audition process and performance which was attended by the upper school pupils.

In IDL P7c have been learning how German bombs impacted British houses. We have researched Germany including organisations such as, the Luftwaffe, Nazi Party and Hitler Youth. We have learned more about the Blitz (Blitzkrieg) and researched the impact that the bombs had on Blitz Street. P7c have used their Numeracy and Mathematical knowledge to participate in a rationing lesson. There have been links with literacy and the IDL topic when we enjoyed getting into character and writing a diary entry based one of the main characters from the class novel. We also developing comprehension skills through reading about the Holocaust.

P7c were delighted to have the opportunity to attend the school Halloween disco, “It has been a few years but finally we had an amazing well deserved Halloween disco”, Maia.

In creative arts P7c have been learning about Diwali and drawing Ganesh with Ms Sinha.

P7c

P7c have had a busy 4 weeks at the start of term.  In literacy we have had the opportunity to do a cold piece and create some imaginative writing.  From this work star writers were selected who managed to achieve the success criteria.

During our reading strategies lessons we have been developing our inferential, predicting, connecting and skimming strategies. This has been particularly enjoyable when we are using these skills whilst reading our class novel.

Our IDL for this term is WW2 and we are reading The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, when we are learning about this topic we are immersed in the past and have the opportunity to experience what children our age might have felt during this time.

We have also been challenging ourselves by taking part in literacy and numeracy assessments. Doing these assessments have been helping us to grow in confidence in the skills we bring with us to P7 and to also challenge us for the year ahead.

In art we have sketched some Gladiolas and have more recently been focussing on Cubism art.

In Numeracy we have been learning about mental maths strategies and implementing these during our number talks lessons such as bridging, friendly numbers and place value. Our core work began with consolidation of numbers and place value. We are now all enjoying moving forward with our learning within numeracy; some of us are working on estimation, some of us multiplication by 10/100 and 1000, and some on the 4 operations.

During PE we have been focussing on our strategies, speed, quick reaction and athletic skills. We have also taken time during HWB to reflect on our own personal feelings about current issues. Within our class, we have been developing our Growth Mindset through various activities, to ensure that we are giving 100% and achieving our best throughout this year ahead.
