P7c have just recently performed their Advent Assembly for friends and families, the pupils would like to thank all who attended. It was lovely to see the hard work from rehearsal practices come to fruition on the day. Since we have completed our Advent Assembly there have been other opportunities to be involved in the Advent celebrations across the school for pupils within P7c. “Some people got picked to be narrator for the nursery nativity”, Keira.
During Health and Wellbeing we have had input from Healthier Minds who have been supporting us with ways to cope with anxiety. Within these lessons, we have learned about the brain and practiced useful techniques to help us return to our baseline or find calm when we begin to feel anxious. We have also been taking part in athletics, team games, Scottish Country Dancing and most recently learning about the functionality of body specifically our muscles and joints during PE. We linked our PE with Science this week taking part in a variety of experiments looking at the impact of voluntary and involuntary muscles on our bodies. We also had input from Eczema Outreach Support who helped us gain a greater insight and awareness of the impact eczema has on people’s day-to-day lives.
In literacy, the pupils have been focussing on poetry creating beautiful personal choice and Autumnal poems. P7c been leading their own learning and decided they wanted to write a letter to the residents of a care home as part of their “lifting other people’s spirits” focus during Advent. The completed letters will be sent to Whitecraigs Care Home and we are very thankful to Niamh’s mum for helping to organise this for us. P7c have also been putting their formal letter writing skills to use once more as we write letters to Bishop John in preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Following on with some more Christmas cheer, we worked very hard to complete our Christmas crafts for the St Cadoc’s Christmas Fayre, we still have a few left if you are looking to brighten up your tree J. “Lifting spirits is lifting hearts”, Umaiza.
P7c were also selected to create digital Christmas cards, the chosen design will be sent out as an e-card to every school and nursery within East Renfrewshire.
P7c have continued to work on the class WW2 IDL topic and are busy completing their novel study, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Before the end of term, we hope to watch the movie too. We had a wonderful input from a historian who spoke to us about the British Indian Army.
In maths we have been working on scale and using our knowledge of operations to create and replicate accurate diagrams which is part of developing the work force as some of us are interested in careers as engineers and architects where these skills are used. “Math is awesome!” Jenson.
We wish all of our friends, family and staff at St Cadoc’s a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
