P7c January Blog

Literacy – many of us have been lucky enough to be star writers this year already. We have been linking our writing to our expedition questions and deepening our learning by focussing on characterisation. We have completed our Reading Standardised Tests this week. We have been enjoying our new reading books and have recently finished them. In writing, we completed our cold piece about glaciers in Canada.

Numeracy – we were learning about decimals, division and negative numbers. We are revising and remembering our previous learning and will revisit our learning about ratio. We have been learning about angles in a variety of contexts. We have been deepening our learning through puzzles and provocations each day.

HWB/RE – Many of us have completed our PFFA and we took this learning further by connecting our Gifts with things we already do as part of our everyday life, such as within school, Church, Mosque, Temple, Gurudhwara and Hindu Mandir. We also completed our My World Triangle to support our emotional wellbeing both in and out of school.

Bike Ability – we will soon be going on the road for Bike Ability. We had our last playground session this term and we are very excited. We met some lovely new tutors.

Holocaust Education Trust – Mr Clark taught us about how the Holocaust came to happen by taking us through historical facts on the lead up to Hitler coming to power and the harsh laws that were passed against the Jews.

Ceilidh – we had a fun and exhausting time at the cluster ceilidh. We learned many different traditional Scottish Dances and performed them to contemporary music. We had a chance to see some pupils who will be joining us in S1 at St Ninian’s. We met our Head of Year, Mrs Wilson and we also saw the S6 sports leaders who were guiding us with our dances. It was great to see the school and be in the large games hall. Some of us were lucky enough to see our friends who were there that day.

Expedition – we have begun expedition and created big questions, we are looking forward to do more with our IDL, ‘Life Beyond Land’ in the upcoming weeks.

Eurovision – we have been celebrating our uniqueness and diversity by learning each other’s languages for the Eurovision Song Contest. We are singing, ‘This is me’, in 8 different languages, Hindi, Polish, Kannada, Italian, Spanish, BSL, French and English.

Assembly – we were invited to present our 2022 Expedition to the upper school pupils and teachers this year. Although it was a little bit nerve wracking we found it really good fun and used it as an opportunity to demonstrate our skills and attributes, linking them to our learning last year.

Languages week – we have been lucky to be learning a new French game with Mr Connor called Petanque, we also took part language week bingo at home.

Art – we did some art with Ms Sinha to make a picture of a boy sitting surrounded by stars using oil pastels.

Happy New Year from the pupils of P7c.
