P7c have had a busy 4 weeks at the start of term. In literacy we have had the opportunity to do a cold piece and create some imaginative writing. From this work star writers were selected who managed to achieve the success criteria.
During our reading strategies lessons we have been developing our inferential, predicting, connecting and skimming strategies. This has been particularly enjoyable when we are using these skills whilst reading our class novel.
Our IDL for this term is WW2 and we are reading The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, when we are learning about this topic we are immersed in the past and have the opportunity to experience what children our age might have felt during this time.
We have also been challenging ourselves by taking part in literacy and numeracy assessments. Doing these assessments have been helping us to grow in confidence in the skills we bring with us to P7 and to also challenge us for the year ahead.
In art we have sketched some Gladiolas and have more recently been focussing on Cubism art.
In Numeracy we have been learning about mental maths strategies and implementing these during our number talks lessons such as bridging, friendly numbers and place value. Our core work began with consolidation of numbers and place value. We are now all enjoying moving forward with our learning within numeracy; some of us are working on estimation, some of us multiplication by 10/100 and 1000, and some on the 4 operations.
During PE we have been focussing on our strategies, speed, quick reaction and athletic skills. We have also taken time during HWB to reflect on our own personal feelings about current issues. Within our class, we have been developing our Growth Mindset through various activities, to ensure that we are giving 100% and achieving our best throughout this year ahead.
