Is it March already?

Birds’ Nest

In outdoor learning we have been working on a bird’s nest because. Tere is litter that the birds have been using to make their                     nests so we picked up all the litter and made a life-sized nest and put Ibrahim in it!

Big questions

In Big Questions we have explored life beyond land. We are learning about the earth’s   atmosphere and Mars. We have taken on a new question this week which is on the Earth’s core. But so far, we have learned about the Bermuda triangle and the Mariana Trench.

Cross country

Cross country this year was hard but enjoyable – there was a lot of people – so there was a lot of competition . There was also a lot of obstacles along the way. 4 people in our class – Jude, Kene, Finn and Rose took part and did fantastically.

Science Centre

In the Science Centre we did fun activities that will help with our learning in a fun way. We went to an IMAX  3D movie, it was about life under the sea – it was really fun.

What P6b have been doing for January

Big Questions

We have been coming up with some questions about different areas of learning we would like to learn about, the topic that got the most votes was the Ocean. We picked 5 questions about it and then split up into groups of 5-6 and then researched about it. We did all sorts of things like presentations, puppet shows, artwork and posters etc.

Chess

We have been learning chess. To do this we made groups of 2-3, making sure one knew how to play. We played a few games and now everyone knows how to play. In our class we have a chessboard and the pieces so that you can play chess.

Football

In PE we have been developing our football skills by working on different skills for example chipping, passing and shooting. We played a few games of football by getting into two teams and then get given a number. If your number got called, then you would try to get a goal for your team.

Maths Tables

In our class we have set up 3 maths tables, a weight table, angles and cubes one and a nature one. Each week a new maths group gets a turn to go to the tables, if it’s your turn then you can make a presentation on weight, draw shapes and find angles in it or you could play top trump with nature cards and explore feathers of real birds. After, you write 3 skills you achieved for this.

Ninja Challenge

It was a great way to raise money for the school. It was fun and exciting! We had a slip and slide – it got us all muddy and wet! It was fun but it was cold!! The bouncy obstacle course was really fun. Mr Fogg had fun on it as well as the pupils! The mud challenge was really slippy and, unsurprisingly really muddy! It was a great afternoon.

Outdoor Learning

When we used the hammock we had fun being zipped up and rocking back and forward. We helped the P2s use a climbing rope to climb a large hill and we helped each other on the tightropes. We used trust and  teamwork to achieve things together!

Plants!

In P6B we get plants from our teacher when we reach a certain amount of pebbles for hard work. So far we have three plants on each table because every group has reached70 pebbles! Now all the groups are trying to reach 80 pebbles to get their fourth plant. Each plant has their own name and someone in each group waters them every week. Plant names include Spidey Gerald, Planty and Jeffrey Bezos (!)

The World Cup League

We have also made our own World Cup – we developed our football skills and our teamwork. We also did maths based work to see who was playing each other, we learned how football leagues work and right now Brazil are top of the league. We have been doing technology to improve how football is played. We designed products to improve the experience of football – as part of homework we designed our own trophy too which was fun.

October already!

Australian animals powerpoints

Working together we chose 4 Australian animals. We are working on how to present effectively – how to stand, good eye contact and how to speak clearly.  Some examples include the tree kangaroo, dingo, koala, sugar glider and quokka.

Australian art – drawing the koala and kangaroo

We used colours and different shades to create different Australian animals. It was relaxing and mindful when we completed them.  We learned about shading with Rob Biddulph.  His style is really cool – it is quite unique. Some of our pictures are up in the class and hallway.

Outdoor Learning – abseiling and hammock

We really enjoyed abseiling – it was fun because we were climbing down a hill. The hammock was really great too – you got pushed by your classmates whilst you were lying down.  We learned to trust each other – just like our favourite tree task where we were blindfolded and guided through the forest to find a favourite tree.

Our first few weeks back!

Here are a few of the things we’ve been up to in 6B so far this year!

Australian Landscapes

We have been learning about the river Tay and the Murray river in Australia and have been comparing them. We have also learned about the population and the size of the country ( 22 times bigger than the UK) and where the coral reef can be located.

Daily Mile

In 6B we love the Daily Mile! It helps us to see how fast we are at long distance running and it helps keep us fit and healthy. It is great for exercise, helps your stamina and makes you feel happier

Turtle Aboriginal Art

We used ear buds to help make dots in art – which is a traditional aboriginal style in Australia. We also used a variety of colours. It was inspired by the art of Aboriginal people and we used black paper for the pictures to stand out.

Spelling rap

On a Friday we try to do a spelling rap. It is where we use our spelling words to make a rap. We have a rap battle and a face off and the winner gets some pebbles.
