October Bloginess!

Welcome to our second Blog of Primary 5/6. Well, here we are coming towards the end of October. The leaves are turning brown and falling to the ground and the nights are fair drawing in!

If you have been keeping an eye on Twitter, then you’ll see that we have been very busy over the last few weeks. Here’s a quick run down:

In Language, we focused on verb tenses and clauses. We wrote an instructional piece on How to be a Good Friend. We are now focusing on Characterisation and have created our own characters. We looked at what a person does, says, acts like and how others react to them. Mr McLaughlin said they were some of the best stories he’s ever read!

We all moved on to Time in Maths. Some pupils are reading digital clocks, some are focusing on 24hour time and some are adding/ subtracting time. (Mr McLaughlin says he feels like he’s ‘doing time’ trying to teach it!). We also looked at compass points, Area and Perimeter and BODMAS. We are now looking at Function Machines and Algebra. During Maths Week Scotland, we created some Maths based Artwork and looked at some jobs which are Maths based. We also drew some geometrical shapes like Mr McLaughlin did when he was a wee boy twenty or so years ago…

We voted for ‘Australia’ to be our first topic. So far, we have made fantastic fact files about Amazing Australian Animals. (We looked at Alliteration in Language!) We also investigated The Great Barrier Reef and the dangers it is facing due to Climate Change. (Which relates nicely to the L’Datto Si theme in RE)

Talking of RE, we found out about Pop Francis as well as his namesake, St Francis of Assisi. We began our Pope Francis Faith Award journey and have found out about Fair Trade and spoke to our peers about the different jobs our parents do. As it is the month of October, we have been reciting the Rosary in class.

We created portraits in the style of Romero Britto, which were fun and colourful.

We continued the football theme in PE and enjoyed identifying the trees which are in Cadoc Wood.

Remember, Mr McLaughlin regularly posts our work on Twitter… so check it out and if you like it… like it!
