September 2022

Welcome to the new Primary 4b’s Class Blog! We have had a very busy first few weeks settling into our new class and making lots of new friends! Here are some of the things we have been learning about so far:

Maths

We have been learning the 6 times table, our favourite way to practise is by playing POPCORN! We have been learning to solve division calculations using the bus stop method. We have been predicting the chance of how likely/unlikely something is to happen. We have learned about the months of the year and how to use the calendar. We have really enjoyed playing lots of fun maths games such as Killer, Splat, Around the World and Battle of the Giants! We have also completed some Maths assessments.

Literacy

Our very favourite part of Literacy is GRAMMAR! We have been learning how to use “a” and “an” correctly.  We have learned comparative and superlative adjectives. We have been practising lots of new spelling rules and scoring well in our Friday spelling tests. In writing, we have written All About Me poems. We wrote imaginative stories about a picture and then acted them out in Drama. We practised our note-taking skills and used our notes to write a newspaper article about the Queen. We have also been practising our French introductions and our “ooh la la vocab”!

RE

We wrote back to school prayers to ask God to guide us through Primary 4 and our Sacraments. We have been practising our Act of Contrition prayer. We have learned about the Creation Story and made comic strips about it. We learned about Laudato Si and have been making posters to show others how to protect our planet. We also celebrated St Cadoc’s Day with a TALENT SHOW! Congratulations to Holly McL who represented our class! 🙂

Science

We voted for our class topic and we chose SPACE! We have learned how small Planet Earth is compared to other planets and stars and we were amazed by the mind-blowing video about this! We have learned the names of the planets in our solar system and have been working in groups to research one planet and create a poster about it.

Health

In PE we have been taking part in the Olympics team challenge! We have been working on good sportsmanship to our own teammates and to other teams. We have been doing the Daily Mile and have taken part in lots of races like running, spider crawl and hurdles. We also tried javelin and discus throwing and have played some fun, friendly games like Chaos Tig and Buddy Up! In Outdoor Learning we made obstacle courses, it was very fun!
