Primary 3B October Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to our October blog! We have had lots of fun this month and have been learning lots of new things.

Literacy

During writing lessons we have been learning how to write a piece of poetry. We now know how to confidently write an acrostic poem and have also developed our knowledge of rhyming words. We have written an Autumn poem, a Bonfire Night poem and a Halloween poem titled ‘The Witch Next Door’. Our next writing genre that we will be learning about is functional writing.

During grammar lessons, we have been developing our understanding on how to formulate questions and use question marks and how to use speech marks properly.

Maths

We have been learning more active maths games, our class favourite is Popcorn! We have also been developing our understanding of the multiplication tables and have been taking part in problem solving activities every fortnight.

The Circles have been learning about 3D shapes and their properties.

The Squares have been learning how to add using carrying and subtract using exchange,

The Triangles have been learning about time, in particular o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past.

The Diamonds have been learning about time also, looking at days of the week and months of the year,

Religious Education

During the month of October, we have been learning about Mary and the Holy Rosary. Canon Eddie came in to visit us and led a Rosary prayer service. We have also been learning about Diwali and some children in the class taught us all about this exciting festival!

STEAM

During technology lessons, we were learning about the Design Process. We worked in group to create a sketch of our ideas and then used the Kapla blocks to build an Egyptian pyramid or tomb. We showed excellent teamwork skills and could provided self and peer assessment on how to improve our designs and models next time.

Thank you for reading our October blog! We can’t wait to share more with you next month.

Miss Igoe and Primary 3b 🙂 x
