Primary 3b September Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to our first Primary 3b blog!

We have settled in well to our new class and have been enjoying exploring our new learning environment.

Literacy

During writing lessons we have been working on creating imaginative stories. We have been learning how to use adjectives and descriptive language to make our stories more exciting. We have also been developing our sentence structure and learning how to use openers, connectives and punctuation effectively. During reading lessons we have been learning how to make predictions using context clues.

Numeracy & Mathematics

We have been learning lots of new active games in Maths to help with our mental agility. One of our favourite games to help us learn odd and even numbers is ‘Popcorn’. We have also been using the numeracy blueprint and number talk activities to discuss our mental agility strategies. The Triangles have been learning about symmetry, the Circles have been carrying out vertical calculations, the Squares have been rounding to the nearest 10 and the Diamonds have been learning about addition and subtraction.

Health & Wellbeing

During PE lessons, we have been developing our fitness and setting personal goals to achieve at the different stations.

We have been using the story of ‘The Colour Monster’ to identify and discuss our different feelings and emotions and strategies to help us when we need them. During our weekly Circle Time we talk about our emotions and share exciting and special news and achievements.

We had our first visit to the forest last week and were exploring the area whilst taking part in a scavenger hunt. We are looking forward to the different outdoor activities we will experience this year.

IDL Topic

We have chosen the Ancient Egyptians as our topic this term. We created a list of things we would like to learn and have enjoyed linking our topic to other curricular areas such as Expressive Arts, Literacy and Mathematics.

Thank you for taking the time to read our September Blog! We hope you have enjoyed reading about our learning and we can’t wait to share more with you next month.

Miss Igoe and Primary 3b 😊
