Primary 3B February /March Blog

Hello and welcome to our February/March  Blog.
We have had lots of fun and been learning exciting things.

 

Life Beyond Land

I loved learning about ‘Under the Sea’. I really liked making my poster about different sea creatures with my group. – Yahya 

I have enjoyed using the Chromebooks to find facts, I think my typing has got better and I am more confident. – Emily

I liked it when the Primary 7s taught us about the Weather. I am proud of my PowerPoint about clouds. – Ainhoa

When we were learning about the oceans, I enjoyed making my poster.  We took turns and my favourite fact was that whales sleep upside down. – Vincent

Maths

I have been learning about division. I have been learning how to do upstairs/downstairs multiplication calculations using carrying – Maya

I have been learning how to do division with remainders, I found it hard but I am good at it now, I want to continue practising it. – Brodie

I have been learning how to use 2D shapes to do tiling – Aaliyah 

Literacy

I love reading books, I especially loved reading Hansel and Gretel. – Natalia

I have enjoyed doing writing for ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. I really liked my story, I used similes and adjectives to describe my dragon. – Ashraf

I was proud of my ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ story. I was happy with my handwriting and using paragraphs. – Dominic

French

With Madame Paterson, we have been learning about where we live. We made a card with some information about who we live with and added pictures. – Brodie

ICT

I have liked making a PowerPoint during my free time, the PowerPoint is about animals and I have been making it with my friends. I am excited to present it to the class. – Katy

Art

I liked doing Art, I really liked my Easter bunny pop up art. It was really colourful and had lots of detail. – Simran

Physical Education

I liked doing badminton because I got to have a partner which helped me and we did a mini competition. – Thomas

Religious Education

We have been learning about Ramadan. I enjoyed Aaliyah’s PowerPoint that she showed us. – Harry

We have been learning about the Easter Story. We made cards and learnt how to write ‘Happy Easter’ in French. – Mikey

Primary 3b January Blog

Hello and welcome to our January blog. We have learned lots of new things that we would like to share with you.

We have begun our Learning Expedition. It is called ‘Life Beyond Land’. We firstly asked questions about Space and have learned about the Moon and astronauts. – Maya

Another question I asked was ‘How do Planes Fly’ and ‘How does the Solar System Work?’ – Dominic

In January we learned about the Lunar New Year. It was the year of the rabbit, we drew pictures and we learned that red was a lucky colour. – Harry

Literacy

We were using the Chromebooks to find relevant information about the Moon. We were learning how to take notes. – Etta

We were skimming and scanning to find information about the Moon and astronauts. I used my notes to make factfile. _ Emily

We have started our novel study. The book is called ‘How to Train your Dragon’. – Brodie

Handwriting

We have been continuing to learn how to join letters. we were also learning how to write printed letters – Ainsley

French 

We learned how to sing the Abba song ‘Waterloo’ in French. We took part in the Eurovision song contest.. and we WON! – Simran

We have been learning to count to ‘vingt’ which means 20. – Vincent

PE

We began learning to play badminton. We had to control the shuttlecock and racket – Matthew Fryars

We worked in partners to throw the shuttlecock and hit it back using the racket – Katy

Maths

i was learning about time, I was learning how to read digital and analogue clocks using ‘half past’ and ‘o’clock’ – Ashraf

I know how to use ‘quarter to’, it is when the minute hand is pointing to the ‘9’ . When the minute hand is pointing to the ‘3’ it is quarter past. – Mikey

In January we were learning about money. I can identify the coins, the bronze coin is a 2p, the 5p is silver and the 10p is silver too. some coins are bigger than the others. – Matthew Fee

In Maths, I was learning how to add using carrying. I had to recognise if the number was over 10, I had to carry a ‘1’ into the Tens column. – Meerab

In Mental Maths, we have been learning how to divide. When you divide by 2 you can half the number. – Thomas

We were making posters, my group made a poster about angles, some of the angles are ‘right angles’, ‘acute angles’ and ‘obtuse angles’. – Yahya

My group made a poster about 3D shapes, some of the 3D shapes are called a cuboid, a cone, a sphere and triangular prism. – Aaliyah

I have been learning new things with Mrs Reid. I was learning to add and subtract. – Joshua

Outdoor Learning

We did outdoor learning with the Primary 7s, we made rafts and tested if they could float. We also built cairns. – Ainhoa

Music

We were learning about the ‘rest’ and ‘ta’ and ‘te-te’. – Natalia

Primary 3b November/December Blog

Hello, welcome to our November/December blog! We have been learning lots of new things in the last couple of months that we will tell you about…

Literacy

Writing

“We  wrote an imaginative story about Santa’s workshop. We had to include punctuation and adjectives” – Brodie

“We also wrote a Letter to Santa. The letter had to have the address, date and begin with ‘Dear Santa’ and we posted it in our postbox that we made in class” – Aaliyah

“We did a block of instruction writing. We made shortbread with Mrs Cameron, we had to use flour, sugar and butter. We then wrote the recipe” – Emily

“We did a re-draft of our Santa letter. It is important to make sure it looked neater and better” – Simran

Spelling

“We learned lots of new spelling rules for example to ‘ai, a_e and ‘ay’. We wrote our words in our jotter and we played Sparkle” – Maya

Reading

“We made books with Miss Nisanci. My book was about a little girl going to school. It had to have a a front cover and a blurb” Meerab

“After we made our books, we helped Primary 2s make their own books too. My book was about a boy that dressed up as a ghost that came to life” Mikey

Handwriting

“We have been learning how to join letters. I think I am getting better at it” Thomas

Maths

“We have been learning about measurement, we used cm, mm and metres. To measure items we used a metre stick and a ruler. We had to make an estimation and check if we were correct” – Ashraf

“We were learning about 3D shapes. We were learning about faces, edges and corners. A cube has 6 faces and so does a cuboid” – Matthew Fryars

“We have been learning about time. We learned about the hour hand and the minute hand. For example, when the minute hand is pointed to the 6 it means half past. – Ainhoa

“We have been learning about angles. We went round the school to find right angles” Etta

RE

“We have been doing our Nativity show and lots of rehearsals. The Nativity it about the birth of baby Jesus. I played the part of a servant” Katy

“During December we have been learning about Advent. There are 5 candles on the Advent wreath. They are pink, purple and white” – Ainsley

“During November, we were remembering people who had passed away. All Saints Day is when we learn about special Saints” Harry

 

PE

“During November we were playing possession games. We played football, basketball and rugby” Dominic

“In basketball there are two hoops. There is five players in each team, you can only use your hands and you bounce the ball” Matthew Fee

“We did PE with the Primary 7s, we did games with them” Subhan

Outdoor Learning

“In November, we made mini dens and pyramids. We had to make a sketch of our idea and we wrote the instructions in class during our writing lesson” – Yahya

 

Social Studies

“For homework we made a project. I made a PowerPoint about Ancient Egypt Animals” – Vincent

“For my project, I made a PowerPoint about Ancient Egyptian jewellery” – Joshua

Primary 3B October Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to our October blog! We have had lots of fun this month and have been learning lots of new things.

Literacy

During writing lessons we have been learning how to write a piece of poetry. We now know how to confidently write an acrostic poem and have also developed our knowledge of rhyming words. We have written an Autumn poem, a Bonfire Night poem and a Halloween poem titled ‘The Witch Next Door’. Our next writing genre that we will be learning about is functional writing.

During grammar lessons, we have been developing our understanding on how to formulate questions and use question marks and how to use speech marks properly.

Maths

We have been learning more active maths games, our class favourite is Popcorn! We have also been developing our understanding of the multiplication tables and have been taking part in problem solving activities every fortnight.

The Circles have been learning about 3D shapes and their properties.

The Squares have been learning how to add using carrying and subtract using exchange,

The Triangles have been learning about time, in particular o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past.

The Diamonds have been learning about time also, looking at days of the week and months of the year,

 

Religious Education

During the month of October, we have been learning about Mary and the Holy Rosary. Canon Eddie came in to visit us and led a Rosary prayer service. We have also been learning about Diwali and some children in the class taught us all about this exciting festival!

 

STEAM

During technology lessons, we were learning about the Design Process. We worked in group to create a sketch of our ideas and then used the Kapla blocks to build an Egyptian pyramid or tomb. We showed excellent teamwork skills and could provided self and peer assessment on how to improve our designs and models next time.

Primary 3b September Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to our first Primary 3b blog!

We have settled in well to our new class and have been enjoying exploring our new learning environment.

Literacy

During writing lessons we have been working on creating imaginative stories. We have been learning how to use adjectives and descriptive language to make our stories more exciting. We have also been developing our sentence structure and learning how to use openers, connectives and punctuation effectively. During reading lessons we have been learning how to make predictions using context clues.

Numeracy & Mathematics

We have been learning lots of new active games in Maths to help with our mental agility. One of our favourite games to help us learn odd and even numbers is ‘Popcorn’. We have also been using the numeracy blueprint and number talk activities to discuss our mental agility strategies. The Triangles have been learning about symmetry, the Circles have been carrying out vertical calculations, the Squares have been rounding to the nearest 10 and the Diamonds have been learning about addition and subtraction.

Health & Wellbeing

During PE lessons, we have been developing our fitness and setting personal goals to achieve at the different stations.

We have been using the story of ‘The Colour Monster’ to identify and discuss our different feelings and emotions and strategies to help us when we need them. During our weekly Circle Time we talk about our emotions and share exciting and special news and achievements.

We had our first visit to the forest last week and were exploring the area whilst taking part in a scavenger hunt. We are looking forward to the different outdoor activities we will experience this year.

IDL Topic

We have chosen the Ancient Egyptians as our topic this term. We created a list of things we would like to learn and have enjoyed linking our topic to other curricular areas such as Expressive Arts, Literacy and Mathematics.
