The Magic Cupboard!!!

This week in writing we were learning to select ideas and use interesting words in our writing. We used our senses to help us create a magical setting which we found when we walked through a cupboard! We came up with some wonderful ideas and to inspire us we watched a video clip from Narnia!

‘When I walked through the cupboard I went back in time!’ Jonathan

‘When I walked through the cupboard I was in Ninjago City!” Finn

“I liked moving around the senses carousel with my group” John Joe

“We had to use our imagination!” Sophie Finnigan

“I enjoyed writing because it was lots of fun.” Mirrin

Sentence Building

At the beginning of this term we did lots of revision and practise of sentence building to help with our story writing. So far we have written a personal piece called ‘All About Me’ and an imaginative story called ‘A Walk in the Woods’. Tomorrow we will focus on creating a magical setting in a story called ‘The Magic Cupboard’.

ART!

Primary 3 have had a fantastic start to the new school year. We started in Art by creating personality silhouettes. We drew pictures which represent different parts of our personalities.

Mathematicians!

Primary 2 have worked very hard this year across the curriculum. The past couple of weeks we have been working very hard on multiplication and division. We enjoy using different resources to help us with our maths!

Mirrin Hughes ‘I loved using chocolate to learn how to divide.’

Sophie McLellan ‘I find division a little bit tricky, I liked using my whiteboard to do division activities.’

P.E!

We have loved being able to do more p.e outside since the weather has been fantastic this week! We warmed up by running around the pitch, competing in team races and began to learn how to play rounders as our focus for this term is striking and fielding!

Erin Kane ‘I love playing rounders, it’s lots of fun.’

Myleigh Devlin ‘I am good at batting the ball and running.’

Sophie McLellan ‘I like being a fielder and trying to get people out.’

John Joe Hodge ‘My favourite is being a batter, I like to bat the ball and run.’

French!

We were very lucky to have Ophelie, our french language assistant teaching us french today. We learned all about where Ophelie comes from in France and what french cuisine is  the most popular! We also had the opportunity to tell Ophelie our name and age in french. Ophelie will be teaching us french every Monday for the next few weeks.  C’est fantastique!

Anton Heinrich ‘Did you know merci means thank you?’

y

Matthew MacInnes ‘Je m’appelle .. means my name is’

The Rainforest!

Primary 2 have began to explore their new topic – ‘The Rainforest.’ Firstly, we looked at what we already knew about and what we would like to learn about the rainforest. As a class we decided we would like to look at the various animals who live in a rainforest. We then chose an animal and used various materials to make a fantastic mask. We also looked at the four layers of the rainforest and worked in groups to create each layer. We are looking forward to learning more about the rainforest after spring break!

James Doran ‘Did you know that nocturnal means that animals sleep during the day and stay up at night.’

Aiden O’Donnell ‘I love monkeys so I’m going to make a monkey mask.’

Sophie M ‘The top layer of the rainforest is called the emergent layer.’

Shay Mulligan ‘We are making the canopy layer and toucans live on the canopy layer.’

Jonathan Delaney ‘We are making snakes and lizards for the understory layer.’

Eva McWilliams ‘The forest floor layer is very dark and you can get rhino beatles down there.’

Send my friend to school!

Primary 2 are very proud of themselves as they raised £54.00 by making friendship bracelets and selling them to the rest of the school!  We sent the money to the charity ‘Send my friend to school’ and we hope the money we raised has helped to send children less fortunate than ourselves to school. Thank you very much to everyone who bought a bracelet! 🙂
