In P1 this week, we have been revisiting numbers 1-20 and have been practicing writing the words of each number!

Isla – I was writing the words of each of the numbers on the new light up board that we got this week and I really liked drawing on it!

Idreece – I was practicing writing my numbers this week on the brand new blackboards that we have in class. I feel really confident in writing the number ‘2’ and I’m excited to practice some more

Outdoor Learning

On Wednesday’s we get to spend the morning outside learning. This week, we had loose parts where we got to build really interesting things using materials which are outside

Marcus – We were building a drain and used pipes

Frankie – And then we used crates! We were trying to get the water from the top to the bottom and then I got a blue thing and we were trying to push the water back up.

Marcus – It didn’t work though, we realised that the purple thing was actually blocking the water from going through so we made sure to move that

Brodie – We were trying to make a pirate ship! We mapped out on the floor the shape of what the boat should be like

Isaac – I liked working as a team to build a really cool pirate ship

Adil – We were building it and trying to not let it fall down

Halloween

We were so impressed with all of the costumes that P1 wore for our fun day of  activities! In the afternoon, our P7 buddies came to the hall and we got to have a really fun halloween party with dancing and games!

P1 were so happy to be back together this week after being off for a relaxing October break! We have had lots of fun this week learning our new sounds, ‘L’ and ‘G’ and exploring numbers and patterns.

Oliver – We were learning to do teamwork and we worked together

Brodie – We were building a wall!

Oliver: Yeah, we did decorations on top!

Marcus: When Oliver, Brodie and Eli started building I came over to help

Eli: It was quite hard to keep building with the blocks and making sure it didn’t fall down. We made sure other children in the class didn’t knock it over by placing coloured cones to let them know to stay away from our work

Charlotte: The P7’s came around on Wednesday to let us know about the Halloween competition

Millie: We can win 100 house points from the competition!

Layla: We were told to design pumpkins which might be carved into real pumpkins next week!

Isaac: I was making  an awesome tower block! I used a lot of blocks to make one of the tallest towers I have yet! We counted the blocks

Abdul Raffay – I was practising writing our letter ‘L’ for the week. One of my favourite things to do this week was to draw pictures of things starting with the letter ‘L’

Tayaab – I really enjoy practising writing out letters. I can’t wait to write lots of stories using my new skills!

Frankie – The queen visited our classroom on Wednesday to make sure our classroom was being tidied correctly!

Oliver – I thought it was really funny and made us tidy up harder!

Idreece – I liked the bit when when Mrs Hughes came out as the queen and walked around like she was when she was checking how clean the class was

Layla – Mrs Hughes looked so funny dressed up as the queen

On Friday we were all so excited to share our learning journals that have been brought back to school from home. We really enjoyed seeing our friends family photos and stories about their families!

Phonics

This week we have been learning our new sounds in Phonics. We learned our new sounds ‘p‘ and ‘n‘.  We have been using the smartboard to practice writing our new sounds, which has been popular, with queues happening often!

We had Rainbow Rice and we had to write letters with our rainbow rice. I wrote ‘‘n’ and ‘p’. I thought this was really fun –  Isla

The P1 class have also been using natural materials such as sticks and leaves to build nests

Numeracy

In Numeracy this week, the P1’s have been exploring lengths, shapes and numbers 1-20.

I was making a hairstyle using rainbow noodles and cut the noodles to different length. I then used glue to stick the hair on the face. I think it was really really fun – Layla

On Thursday we were measuring Miss Irwin using straws. She was very long! The one we made was very long so we had to take two bits off of it. It was fun learning about the different lengths of things. – Brodie

On Friday, we spent the afternoon outside with our P7 buddies. We really enjoy this as we get to explore, build and play while we make new friends. We got to build dens. We will be playing with our P7 buddies every second Friday, this is something we are really looking forward to!

Throughout the week the P1’s have also been enjoying exercising through yoga. We loved it so much that it has become part of our daily routine!
