Primary 1 were encouraged to develop their Talking and Listening Skills during “Be the Teacher Day” on Friday. We had lots of Mr.Docherty’s in our class!
Alfie shared his favourite thing with the class : dinosaurs! He knew lots about dinosaurs and was super at pronouncing all their names. Well done, Alfie.
“Diplodocus is the biggest dinosaur in the whole world. The Tyrannosaurus Rex is my favourite dinosaur. He has big feet and can run really fast”. Alfie
We loved performing our first ever Nativity in St.Thomas’.
Through rehearsing for the Nativity, every child in Primary 1 was aware of the Christmas Story and the events which took place in the lead up to the birth of Jesus.
“I was King Herod and everyone had to sign my Census. There were so many people that had to come and sign it that there was no room for Mary and Joseph to stay.” Jackson
“The Wise Men followed the Star of Bethlehem to find the Baby Jesus. King Herod wasn’t happy that there was going to be a new king who was greater than him.” Mia
“The Shepherds were led to the stable to see Jesus by some Angels in the sky. They were poor but they were still allowed to see Jesus.” Daniel
“Jesus was born in a stable.” Ocean
On the first of December, we noticed a little Elf door had appeared in our classroom! We had some letters and it turned out an Elf had come to join our class! Every morning he leaves us a letter and he sets one child in the class a mission. Each of the missions he leaves us, helps to develop a positive mindset and encourages us to spread christmas cheer throuhg being kind and respectful to others.
“I love having Elfis in the class. We need to be very quiet all the time because he only has small elf ears.” Ewan
“Elfis left me a mission, he asked me to say something nice to the teachers outside in the playground and asked me to show super sitting all day. I completed my mission and he left me a chocolate.” Alfie
“Elfis asked us all to show him how to have amazing handwriting. He said his handwriting wasn’t very good and Santa wouldn’t let him help write the tags on children’s presents. We showed him how to do amazing handwriting.” Jackson
“It is Elfis’ birthday and we are all going to write him a birthday card.” Orlagh
Primary 1 had a visit to Neilston Library. While we were there, we were gifted our “Book Bug” bags from the Scottish Books Trust. We got to hear all of the stories that were in our bags. Our favourite was definitely ‘Shark in the Park on a Windy Day’.

Primary 1 have really enjoyed learning through play.
Learning through play benefits children greatly. Not only does it encourage them to think creatively, it also enhances their imagination. Through allowing children to engage in ‘structured play’ activities, they master new competencies, leading to enhanced confidence and resilience, equipping them with necessary skills for life.
“I made a rainbow disco with my box. I used paint, glitter and pens to make it. Next time I will use glue to make sure the glitter sticks to the box. It didn’t stick very well to the paint.” Mia
“I made a dinosaur. I had to cut my box up into small pieces and then stick them together. I had to use paint to make it the right colour.” Alfie
“I made a camouflage outfit. I used the green, orange and yellow paint and I will be able to wear it and people won’t know where I am.” Charlie
“I made a squid. I just cut the box at the top into lots of different legs. I didn’t even have to paint it because the box was black and I wanted my squid to be black.” Joshua G
“We got to look at all the different 3D shapes. I thought I had found circles but they are actually called Spheres.” Ewan
“I made a castle with the 3D shapes. Then, I started to sort them into different families. I had a family of cubes – they were my favourite.” Niamh
“If you put a cone on your head it looks like a party hat. I liked playing with the shapes. I put all the shapes together that were the same.” Jackson
What hard workers we are in Primary 1! Each day we do lots of different activities to help us read and write words. This week we really enjoyed trying to match sentences to pictures. We love going outside to write and read words.

Primary 1 have been talking about all the wonderful things around us that God has made. We lit a candle to think about God and everyone in the class said thank you to God for one thing they were grateful for. Here is what we all said :

Primary 1 have started to use Big Maths. This week, our ‘Learn It’s’ are doubles to 10.

Primary 1 were effective contributors during Make a Difference Day. They were very enthusiastic about taking part in a litter pick and made our playground look excellent! Well done, Primary 1.
We have been focusing on team work and balancing in P.E. We have been learning lots of new games and have been trying really hard to work well in a team.
