“We made smoothies using different fruit and vegetables. We used blindfolds and nose pegs and now I know that I can taste best when I can use all my senses. When we tasted the smoothie, we guessed what was in it. Then, we had to guess the colour of the smoothie too. I guessed all of mine right.” Jackson

dance dentist

“I loved learning a new dance. It was so much fun and I even won a prize for being the best.” Niamh.

“I liked dressing as the dentist and finding out how to put on braces. I want to be  dentist when I am older.” Oralgh

“Yoga was fun. I felt relaxed.” Sophia

Google Expedition

Primary 1 loved getting to spend some time with their Primary 1 friends from Uplawmoor Primary School. What was even more exciting about it, was that they got to go on a Google Expedition together. First of all, they visited a land with dinosaurs. They were quickly transported to the Australian Sea to see lots of different underwater animals, then, straight to space. What a great experience!

An exciting week in Primary 1.

This has been a very busy and exciting week in Primary 1. The week began with a visit from Generation Science where we learned all about magnets. This was really interesting and enjoyed by everyone. Next, we had our class mass. We learned 2 new hymns and, through preparing for and celebrating this mass, we had the opportunity to reflect on all the different talents that God gave us, each of which makes us unique. After our mass, we had some nurses from The University of West of Scotland. They taught us all about the importance of hand washing and how to wash our hands thoroughly. Then, we had a visitor from the SSPCA. We learned all about how to take care of animals, what to do if we saw an animal in danger and the importance of looking after our wildlife. Finally, on Friday, the Zoo Lab came in to visit. Everyone was very brave, and some were even brave enough to hold a snake, cockroach, millipede and a rat! Thank you to all our amazing visitors – what an exciting week!science sspca visitoes-5 visitors visitors-2 visitors-3 visitors-4

Learning Through Play

Primary 1 have been continuing to learn new skills and consolidate existing knowledge and skills through taking part in play based opportunities. The children are becoming increasingly more independent and have been working very hard together to extend their knowledge and understanding of different concepts. Here are some pictures of the children taking control of their learning.play play-2 play-3 play-4

Scotland.

scotland scots-fortnight scots-fortnight-2

Primary 1 have had  a great couple of weeks back at school learning all about Scot’s Language. We have enjoyed participating in a variety of activities such as reading and completing activities on “The Gruffalo” in Scots and “The Gruffallo’s Wean”, creating tartan kilts, making our own scottie dogs, learning about and trying Scottish food, making thistles, studying Scottish Saints and learning Scottish country dancing during P.E. We even went to a Celtic Connections concert and heard some Scottish music. What a super mini topic!

“My favourite thing was making thistles using pointillism.” Niamh

“I liked when I got to describe and name my Scottie Dog.” Alfie

“I was really good at making a plate of Haggis, Neeps and Tatties using tissue paper and cotton wool.” Sophia

“The Gruffallo in Scots was really funny. I liked when we labelled all the different parts of the Gruffallo using Scots language.” Lewis.

Bucket Filling.

Everyone in Primary 1 knows how important it is to be kind and caring towards others. We listened to the story “Bucket Filling” and thought about different ways that we could fill people’s buckets. Each day, we take time to thank somebody in the class for being kind. For each act of kindness, you receive a pebble in your bucket. We have been trying very hard to fill each others buckets and say sorry if our actions have emptied someones bucket.bucket-filling bucket-filling-2

Surveys

Since coming back after Christmas, Primary 1 have been very busy learning lots of different things in Numeracy and Mathematics. Their favourite thing to learn was how to use tally marks. We put our knowledge of using tally marks into action when we went round the classes to carry out surveys

Directions.

Primary 1 have been focussing on directions in Numeracy. They have worked very well to direct each other to different places in the school and had a shot of being blind folded and following directions from friends! One of our favourite activities was when we used the bee-bots and directed them. Super work Primary 1!bee-bots beebots-2 beebots-3

It’s Christmas!

The lead up to Christmas was very exciting in Primary 1. Santa came to visit, it was our class Elf’s birthday and we even had a Christmas party! Primary 1 had a great time having Elfis in our class. He set us secret missions each day, wrote letters to everyone in the class and we even wrote him some letters.
