The children explored ‘The Dot’ story in the creative area. The story tells us that anyone can be creative if they just take the first step. Through a simple classroom or playroom interaction, the story highlights how encouragement and a growth mindset can transform self-doubt into confidence. The children used their creativity and imagination skills to produce their very own dot pictures. We have the right to chose where we play in our nursery environment. Many of us have chosen to explore the loose parts in the block area.

 

 

 

Our April awards go to…

 

Through technology we can use simple directions and describe positions. When exploring the Bee Bots we were using the language of position and direction, including in front, behind, left, right, forwards and backwards, to solve simple problems in movement games.

We enjoy playing games together in a smaller group setting. Spotty Dogs has become a firm favourite.

During Nurture Time we took part in a science experiment and used our prediction skills to guess what might happen when warm water was added to Skittles.

“They’re going to dissolve.”

“They will go white, all the colours will move.”

Once we added the warm water we watched what happened. Our predictions were correct, the Skittles did start to turn white and the colours made the water look like a rainbow.

Caring for babies has continued to be a firm favourite again this month. The children have demonstrated a real maturity and understanding of how to care for them really well.

During Nurture Time we developed our scissor skills and concentrated hard to cut out shapes.

All the children have been working hard helping prepare resources for our Moving On Celebrations. Here’s a little sneak peek of what we have been getting up to…

It’s been a busy month at Cross Arthurlie Nursery as we continue to explore new experiences with our friends and families.

On the 5th of March we celebrated World Book Day and many of us dressed up as our favourite book characters. We also took part in a character hunt around the nursery…we found them all!

Over the past few Friday’s we have been taking part in Mini Kickers with Steve our coach. We’ve been learning lots of new skills and having lots of fun too.

 

During our latest Stay and Play sessions we invited our grown ups to the book fair. We were able to browse and buy from a selection of books and also had a chance to explore some early literacy experiences.

During Nurture Time we have been exploring the Bee Bots. We have been using directional language when making the Bee Bots move forwards, backwards, left and right. Once we had mastered the directions we made the Bee Bots a maze to follow. This was lots of fun and involved us working together as a team, go Team Green!

The month of February has been filled with lots of fun.

We have created a shop next to our home corner and have been enjoying exploring all the different products we can buy. We have also been investigating the different coins we can use to buy our favourite goodies.

We continued learning about coins using the smart board…

…and during Nurture Time we discussed the different sizes, shapes and colours of coins up to £1.

“That’s the biggest coin” “I found a silver one”

We enjoyed having our grown-ups come to nursery for our stay and play session.

Tuesday 17th Feb saw the beginning of the Chinese New Year. It is the year of the horse. We have been watching videos of Chinese parades with Chinese dragons. We’ve also been exploring numbers in Chinese and having a go at writing Chinese symbols.

During December we were very busy getting ready for our Christmas markets. It was so much fun having our grown ups visit us and we enjoyed exploring the markets together.

We had some very special visitors to our nursery, two of Santa’s reindeer Blitzen and Vixon!

We have been busy exploring numbers within 10 by developing our numeral recognition and counting amounts.

 

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year. We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. It’s been lovely hearing about all the amazing experiences the children had.

We have some new friends who have joined the green group…welcome, we hope you have a fantastic time with us at Cross Arthurlie.

The children have settled back into their nursery routine and have been very busy exploring a range of experiences.

It’s been a busy month at Cross Arthurlie, and we’ve been sharing our firework experiences with our friends. “I saw the fireworks with my family”, “the fireworks were very loud”.

We have also been developing an awareness of Remembrance Day and what it means. We made our own poppies to represent the poppies that grew in the fields.

 

Lately we have been having lots of discussions and learning about the people who help us.

We were really lucky to have a visit from the Fire Service this month. The children got the chance to sit inside the Fire Engine and have a go using the hose. Thank you to the Firemen for their kindness and patience with the children!

On Friday the 14th of November we celebrated Children in Need. We dressed up in our pyjamas and played lots of fun games in the gym hall.

The children have been inspired by the artist Jackson Pollock and have been creating their own artwork using a splatter technique.

Autumn has now officially arrived…and the weather is definitely a bit more chilly!

We have welcomed some new friends to the green group, and we hope to have lots of fun together at Cross Arthurlie.

It’s been business as usual at Cross Arthurlie and we have been very busy exploring the different areas of our nursery environment.

When exploring the outdoors the children assess their own risk when using the large play equipment.

They have also been exploring cause and effect when pouring and filling with the water, and using the waterfall to see how the water moves. “We’ve made a river!”

As a nursery we celebrate Halloween for the full week, with lots of different experiences on offer. We love to see all the amazing costumes throughout the week.

 

At Nurture we have been exploring symmetry, finishing the Halloween pictures. We used the mirrors to see the symmetrical reflection of each picture.

During our gym hall sessions we have been lucky to have some helpers from the High School. They have been teaching us some new games to help us keep fit!

The trees are starting to change colour and the weather is becoming colder, it must be September. Some of the green groups parents/carers came to our first stay and play session of the year. We hope you had a wonderful time visiting the nursery. Keep an eye on the notice board for future days to visit.

It’s Maths Week this week! We have been exploring  number, size and pattern.

We have continued with our gym sessions and we are looking at how to keep ourselves safe when moving around the school and using different spaces within the school.

It has been so lovely to see everyone again back at nursery. It sounds like all our friends had a great time over the summer holidays.

We have some new friends at Cross Arthurlie and we know we’re going to have lots of fun learning together.

TRAVELLING TALES

The Green Group children have their travelling tales day on a Friday. This is when they are able to explore and choose a book from our nursery library to take home to enjoy for the week with their families.  Any children not in on a Friday will attend the nursery library on an alternate day that they attend. please ensure the book and bag are return each week to the drop box in the foyer Thank you!

 

 

Just a gentle reminder of some important nursery information –

• Can you please make sure your child has indoor shoes to change into when they arrive at nursery (preferably no crocs).
• A Monday is our main day for access to the gym hall, please ensure appropriate footwear is worn on this day and earrings are removed.
• Please pack spare clothes in bags in case of accidents and/or wet and muddy play.
• If possible please provide a pair of wellies for outdoor play.
• During the warm weather please apply sun cream  prior to attending nursery and a labelled bottle of sun cream is provided for the staff to then top up in the afternoon.
