On Saturday 18th April at Kirkcaldy High School, 19 of our primary 6 & 7 pupils competed in the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships.
It was a beautiful warm and sunny day which was perfect weather for spectators but made running the mile course even more challenging. The standard of competition was extremely high and all of our runners gave their best and did themselves and the school proud.
Netherlee competed in the second race for each group as schools with names beginning A-K run in one race and L-Z in a separate race. Around 150 pupils were in each race.
First up was the primary 6 girls race. Our top finisher was Erin Fraser in 51st place. Lucy Elliott and Anna Winter came home close behind in 54th and 60th. Completing the team were Anna Lucas in 71st and Erica Makin in 121st. In the team results, the girls were 11th out of 22 teams.
Next up were our primary 6 boys. Charlie Tomkinson was Netherlee’s first finisher in 46th place. Just 10 places behind him was Thomas Pavri in 56th. Matthew Norrie finished in 65th, Lewis Gough came 84th and Joe McNally completed the team in 104th. In the team results, the boys were 14th out of 27 teams.
Our primary 7 girls team competed next. In 59th place Stella Cowey was our first girl home. Following behind her was Anna Ghiro who used the last of her energy in a great sprint finish for 68th place. Sophie Lauder and Nina Jackson finished the race in 87th and 98th respectively. Serena Marchon also made the team but was unfortunately unable to compete on the day due to illness. In the team results, the girls were 16th out of 20 teams.
Last to run after being fantastic supporters of our other teams were the primary 7 boys. All boys had brilliant runs with the whole team finishing in the top 60. Christopher Watson-Sweeney was the school’s top finisher in an excellent 27th place. Stephen Alpine and Michael Alba pushed each other in the race to finish just 1 place apart in 47th and 48th. Ben Galloway came home in 54th place and Robbie Currie completed the team shortly after in 58th place. In the team results, the boys were 7th out of 21 teams.
Congratulations to all of our runners, they were a credit to the school in their performances and behaviour! Thank you to them and their families for taking a day out of their Easter holidays to represent Netherlee.
