The children continue to be fascinated with numbers and counting and have taken part in loads of activities this week linked to maths.
We have counted the eyes on spiders, solved Numicon puzzles, played car races to see who’s car could land on the largest number, made playdough pumpkins then counted them while smashing them and plenty more……
Further adventures in 2D shape today with the children using geo boards and bands to make 2D shape pictures and in the mark making area they explored different ways of drawing them.
The children uncovered a bag of sticks today and quickly embedded them into their play. They used them to thread rings onto in a repeating pattern and then they counted how many there were.
This is maths week and today the children have been continuing their exploration of 2D shapes. Today they have been making rockets out of shapes, drawing and matching shapes, building them and using them when baking.
This week the children have asked to explore 2D shape. We have started the week by using 2D shapes to create pieces of art and by using technology to sort shapes by type.
The children have been enjoying identifying numerals in their environment. Today they wanted to try writing them and sequencing them so we had a shot at making number lines.
Over the course of the week the children have been sorting lots of different things. They have sorted by colour, shape and type.
Today the pom-poms had gotten all mixed up and we used tongs to sort them into groups by colour and size. They were quite slippery which made the activity even more challenging!
The children had been talking about items that float and those that sink so today we decided to experiment! Items from around the playroom and playground were collected and the children held them and shared if they would float or sink.
They then tested their predictions by placing them in water to see what would happen. Finally they had two collections of items, those that float and those that sink.
Everybody had lots of fun and there were plenty of surprises in relation to the items that floated and those that sank!
Today some of the children were exploring repeating patterns, they used their new knowledge and paint to make caterpillars with patterned bodies.
