We had a fantastic day in the forest today!

We discussed how we felt at the start of the session, using traffic light colours to highlight how we felt and we compared our feelings at the end of the session.

We learned about boundaries and how to assess risks and we used markers to establish our boundary line and identify different levels of risks in our forest.

We had a social snack and ate together outside.

We had the opportunity to explore and play. Some of us decided to play with hoolahoops, frisbees and the parachute, some of us climbed trees, some of us explored different trees/plants and leaves, some of us made a den using material and sticks, some of us went on a litter pick using the litter grabbers.

We then did a sit spot exercise where we sat or stood on our own in silence, listening to the sounds and looking carefully. Lots of us found this really relaxing and we discussed what we could see and hear.

At Mearns, we are learning about Scotland and Scots language.

On Monday we learned some Gaelic.

On Wednesday we had a Scottish assembly.

Today, Mrs Noble’s mum told us about where she is from in Scotland – Barra . She also talked to us about the Gaelic language. We learned that they don’t use every letter of the English alphabet. We also learned a song and sang it as we washed tweed, like in the olden days.
Child I (I am not allowed to have names and faces) also recited a Scottish poem to the class and did so beautifully!

We are looking forward to our trip next week for Celtic Connections.

We started learning about data handling and different ways to display and organise information. We started off by looking at pictograms. We surveyed our friends on their eye colour and displayed this in a pictograms. We then were given data and counted it and answered questions.

Rocco, Flynn, Tiffany, Isla, Gursimar, Aidan, Arudra, Zakariya and Maira made a decorative chain together.
Yesterday, we measured the length of it using metre sticks. It measured 13m and 56cm! Wow!

We had lots of fun today at our party! We danced, played games and sang songs. Well done to Lewis and Zakariya for winning some competitions/games! 🌟

Pauline came to visit us today to talk to us about advent. We read aloud a story together and completed an advent calendar to mark the story of baby Jesus.

Today was our last day in the kitchen. We learned how to whisk ingredients by hugging the bowl and mixing using a whisk. We made yummy blueberry and white chocolate muffins. We made 1 to enjoy and 1 for someone we love berry much. We hen made little muffin toppers.   Maybe you’ll be the lucky recipient of 1 of them. 🧁💜

Today, the circles group have been learning about a number’s place value. We showed different numbers using tens and units.

Mrs Noble tasked us with a very important job of decorating cupcakes to sell at the Christmas fair tomorrow. We did a smashing job of making icing, scooping and spreading it and decorating the cakes.

Today we went to the kitchen to continue developing our chopping skills. We made not 1, but 2 dips – a salsa dip and a fruity dip. We chopped finely using the claw and bridge hold. We then came back to class to sample these with some crisps,
