Stem time capsules

It has been a really enjoyable experience getting to see and hear about everyone’s time capsules that they created. Everyone’s confidence and presentation skills have really developed over the last few weeks with this project and our solo talks. Well done!

Bee keepers

Pupils from St Ninians High School came to tell the nursery, primary 1s and 2s about their work as bee keepers. They have their own bees and they are responsible for looking after them. They told us about different types of bees and how they make honey.

Plants

Today we have been learning about plants. We can name the different parts of a plant and explain what plants need to grow. We’ve had lots of fun trying out different activities: we labelled parts of a plant, we dissected some flowers and looked at the different parts, and we planted seeds in soil.

The Young STEM Leaders

The Young STEM leaders from primary 7 came to visit us. They planned some super STEM tasks and experiments for us to try out. We made a house using playing cards (Which was challenging!) , we had to balance lollipop sticks and straws using blue tac, we made towers and models using cocktail sticks and blue tac, and we had to try using different materials to make a marble move.

We had lots of fun with the primary 7s, thank you!

STEM

It is STEM week! We actually do lots of STEM activities every day – we work out maths calculations, we build models with different materials, we use the smart board to play games for literacy and numeracy and a whole host of other STEM related tasks.
This week, we did an experiment to see how apples change over time and what liquid helps to protect them from discolouring. Every day, the children were so excited to see what had happened to the apples. They were fascinated with it! We made our own predictions and then we recorded the results. We found out that salty water and lemon juice protected them from turning brown and they stayed fresh. The apples that were sitting on a paper towel, in coke, and in water turned brown very quickly!

Forest School – Session 8

The rain didn’t dampen our moods on Friday as we all had such a fun morning in the woods!

Some of us toasted marshmallows on a fire. They were so yummy! We all had a shot at using the fire lighter, which is called a dragon sneeze. We all had a turn at making the dragon sneeze and making a spark. We all thought it was really cool! ⚡️ 🔥

Lots of us enjoyed exploring and playing. A group of children found a hole that had filled with water due to all the rain and decided to make a bridge to cross it. They collected large logs and tried to make it steady so they could walk on it. Some children made mud monsters by manipulating the mud like clay to make different shapes. We also had more dens being made and some musical entertainment by the girl band, who kept the builders going as they made music with different instruments.  🎶  We also had lots more digging and hammering. The children certainly have enjoyed using a range of tools. ⚒️

Forest school session 7

We had lots of fun in the forest today!

Some of us made a fire and got to toast marshmallows! Don’t worry if you didn’t get a turn today; you will next week.

Some of us chose to do some arts and crafts. We made figures using playdoh, we did bark rubbings, drew pictures and made transient art.

Some of us wanted to explore and play. We had some people digging for fossils, treasure and diamonds. We found some ‘diamonds’ and ‘eggs’ under ground! Lots of us enjoyed climbing trees and making lasoo ropes to go round the trees. Some of us made dens for animals using hammers and using litter pickers to grab sticks.

Solo talks

A big well done to everyone who presented their solo talk this week. You are all such a talented bunch! It was lovely to hear all about your exciting hobbies, see photos, outfits, medals and certificates.

Forest school -session 6

It was cold but sunny on Friday in the forest! Please remember to wrap up warmly!

Some of us made a fire and enjoyed hot chocolate. Adam gave it a 5 star review and said it was the best hot chocolate he had ever had! 🌟

Some of us went on a treasure hunt looking for coins and jewels, as well as their own natural treasure. 🧐

Some of us used playdoh, art crafts and natural materials to make shapes, items and animals. We had pizza slices, cats, hedgehogs… They looked fab! 🍕🦔🐱

We also enjoyed playing and making dens for different animals and fairies who visit the woods.
