We’re going on an Egg Huntβ€¦πŸ£

Yesterday we read ‘We’re going on an egg hunt’ story and then headed off to the treehouse to find what the Easter bunny had left for us!

We each found an egg left for us in the treehouse, we had to look through the resources to find where the eggs were hiding! The boys and girls worked very hard to find their eggs and were rewarded when the plastic eggs turned to chocolate eggs! Wow!

Forest Minibeasts! 🐜🌲

We have spent the last few weeks exploring minibeasts such as caterpillars, butterflies, insects and many more! The boys and girls worked hard to learn the life cycles and habitats of many of the minibeasts and we worked hard to label the insect body parts! We also created bees and ladybugs out of our craft materials!

Some of us worked with Miss Dixon to paint Minibeasts! Well Done boys and girls!

Tooth Tuesday! 🦷πŸͺ₯

As part of STEM week we learned about how to take care of our teeth during tooth Tuesday! We worked hard to learn how to brush our teeth correctly and talked about how often you should brush your teeth a day! We then worked in teams to complete some tasks linked to healthy teeth! We brushed off the plaque from different teeth.

We counted 20 teeth and painted these and created 20 teeth using playdoh also!

Some of use cut out and stuck 20 teeth onto the gums!

We completed an experiment with Mrs Provan where we researched the effects of sugar on our teeth. When the sugar was added to the solution it fizzed and bubbled!

STEM Zoology 🐻

Miss Dixon told us all about her second job where she works at the zoo looking after the animals! We looked at different animals and the enclosures they live in! We then worked with our groups to create animal enclosures – thinking about what space and resources the animal would need.

We created an enclosure for our gorilla including swings and ropes to keep him stimulated and food and water for him to eat and play!

We also worked hard to create an enclosure for our elephant with walls around it to keep him safe and different terrain similar to his habitat in the wild!

Cinema Fun! 🎬🍿

The boys and girls were very excited on the bus on the way to the Cinema! We then walked with our partners up the stairs of the cinema to the screen! πŸ“Ί

We all found our seats and got our snacks out ready for the movie to start! 🍿

We loved the Inseparables movie and in particular our favourite character was DJ dog!🐢 πŸ˜ƒ

When we arrived back at class some of the children drew the characters from the movie during Iplay. We talked about some adjectives to describe the characters. Well Done Primary 1.4! 🌟

World Book Day 2024 πŸ“šπŸ˜ƒ

We had a great World Book Day where the children dressed up and shared their favourite books! The children talked to the class about their favourite part in the story and why others would love these books also!

We then had time to swap our books with others in the class and the children loved reading different books recommended by their peers!

We completed different activities linked to World Book Day. We completed a book quiz as a class, drew our favourite characters from some books and created minibeast information books linked to our Forest Kindergarten learning! Well Done Primary 1.4!

Language lessons, forest fun and Iplay antics! πŸ‘πŸ˜ƒ

During our morning register Primary 1.4 have been keen to learn new languages and different ways of saying good morning and hello to their friends. We have so far learned how to greet each other in the morning in English, French, Spanish, Mandarin and we are currently researching Nigerian at present.

The children have also loved learning from each other and we have furthered our Mandarin language learning to numbers to 5. Well Done to our amazing Mandarin teacher for teaching your peers the numbers! We loved it!

The boys and girls have been enjoying learning new skills in Iplay and working with others from other Primary 1 classes. We have been using our coding skills to direct the Bee bots around the mats to different locations, we have been exploring imaginative play using LEGO structures created and some of us have loved tinkering with nuts and bolts to create a giant grabber! We loved collecting items using our giant grabber during tidy up time!

The boys worked hard to explore motion and created a track from the loose parts for their car. They then tested the track using the car and adapted it to ensure the car could achieve its full speed! Well Done boys!

This Wednesday the winds were unfortunately too high for us to go outdoors into the forest for Forest Kindergarten! We worked with P1.3 and further explored Minibeasts. We looked at different minibeasts found outdoors and even learned a Minibeast song! The boys and girls worked hard to classify minibeasts with their peers! Well Done Primary 1.4!

We have been working hard in phonics on our diagraphs and during our writing lesson the boys and girls completed targets in groups during their play. We worked hard to build 3 and 4 letter words using diagraphs and we also played a roll and read game using dice to practise our phonics sounds!

We have also been working hard on doubles in numeracy and the children have been utilising our maths area to complete some of their own calculations during play! Well Done!

Reading and writing in Literacy ✏️

We worked hard in literacy today to use our reading books to answer comprehension questions. We are working hard on answering in sentences using a capital letter and full stop 😊

We are enjoying writing letters in the writing area and putting these in envelopes to post or take home. We are also working hard on our handwriting at the writing area, thinking about forming our letters correctly. Well Done Primary 1.4!

We have enjoyed spending time in the continuous provision areas and regularly use the loose parts to create small worlds. The boys and girls also enjoyed using the numeracy cubes to make the longest line of cubes! 🌟

Beebots, books and bundles of fun! πŸ˜„

As part of our Mearns Masters coding pathway we have been coding out beebots to create cool coding pictures! We taped markers to the beebots and moved them to make patterns! πŸ˜€

The boys and girls made a library using some of the loose parts and books in our classroom! They invited some of the other children to come and loan books to read and even wrote invitations to our Principal teacher, Mrs Curran to come and look through our library! Well Done boys and girls! πŸ“š

We have been learning about money and recognising coins! We worked hard to order the coins in value from lowest to highest! πŸͺ™πŸ˜€

Forest fun and more!

We headed out for forest kindergarten last week. We learned abut habitats and what a habitat is. We then explored our forest area and spotted many habitats for different animals!

We have also been busy in class while playing in our continuous provision areas and some of us have built towers using the building blocks! Well Done!

This week we started our new Mearns Masters pathway which is coding. We learned what coding means and were introduced to simple directions we can use to code the Beebots to move. The boys and girls had great fun tinkering with the Beebots and using the digital game to code the Beebot also. Well Done Primary 1.4!
