The Big Bird Watch 🌳 🌲

For our outdoor learning we took part in the UK big bird watch!

We went out to the woods to see if we could spot any signs of any birds. We spotted some nests and feathers.

We took our identification sheets out and worked together to see if we could spot any of the birds! We had to be very quiet as we moved around so we did not disturb any potential sightings!

We filled in our data and discussed the totals and the types of bird most common to our woods.

We also discussed what we could do to encourage more species to our woods and came up with some great ideas to extend our learning next time!

Scots Language Mearns ModπŸ“–

We had some lovely learning Β experiences over the two weeks including a special visit from Mrs Nobles mum who told us all about life on the island of Barra. Β We had a go at a traditional Gaelic waulking song and tried it out with some material with 1.2!

We also enjoyed a visit from the Gaelic school and learned some words and songs in Gaelic!

We made some McCoos using lots of different colours and textures of wools inspired by the Scottish artist Steven Brown.

We read the Gruffalo in Scots and picked out some of the describing words, then added these to our very own Gruffalo creation! The children loved identifying the words in Scots and trying to have a go at figuring out the meaning.

Outdoor Learning 🌲 ❄️

For our Outdoor Learning this week, we went out to the woods with 1.2 on a numeracy hunt!

We took our survey sheets out with us to see what we could find. We then used tally marks to collect our data. We totalled up our findings and shared our results with each other!

Festivities in 1.1 🌟 πŸŽ„

We have been very busy in 1.1 in December!

In numeracy, we measured each other as part of our snowman scarf craft and made some reindeer number bonds!

In PE we have been learning some Scottish ceilidh dancing with 1.2! Here we are performing the Canadian barn dance.

Outdoor Learning πŸ‚πŸŒ²πŸ

As part of our numeracy and maths we have been leaning about pattern and symmetry. For our Wednesday outdoor learning this week, we visited the woods to see what patterns we could create outdoors!

We collected lots of natural Β items from the woods to make our patterns and enjoyed experimenting with different creations!

We even had a go at creating some symmetrical pictures using sticks, leaves, rocks and pinecones.
