Planting our (magic!?) beans 🌱

After building our class Castle for our role play area as part of our Designers Mearns Masters a huge beanstalk appeared and left us some beans!

We planted our beans in mini greenhouses and watched closely as they started to form roots!

We planted our beans into soil and learned all about the life cycle of plants, what they need to grow and the names of all of their different parts.

We have loved tracking the progress of our beans and checking in on them everyday to measure how much they have grown!

STEM WEEK – Graham Construction visit

This week we welcomed Graham Construction to 1.1 for a fantastic workshop learning all about construction!

As part of STEM Week, the children learned all about the different roles in construction and had the chance to take on these roles as they builtΒ  their own structures out of lego!

We learned so much as we had the chance to be engineers, project managers and builders and designed and built our very own bridges, buildings, towers and more!

STEM Week – nurse visit

For STEM week we had a children’s nurse visit our class for a fantastic session!

We learned all about what to do in an emergency as well as how to treat small cuts and grazes.

Fairy Houses

After learning all about natural materials, we went out to the woodland area to create some fairy houses!

We worked in small groups to plan and design our houses and then got to work collecting different natural materials to use.

Mearns Masters – Designers

After our Mearns Masters Campaigners block where we learned lots about recycling, we decided to think about what we could make with a cardboard box for our Designers block.

We had lots of great ideas but decided we all really liked the sound of a castle!

We researched some design ideas…

and created our own designs!

We then used our designs to start planning using the recycled materials we had all collected!

We really enjoyed testing out different ways of using the cardboard….

we then worked together in small groups to create our large class castle!

We have loved this block of Mearns Masters and designing our very own castle to enjoy in our role play area! This has inspired us to learn even more about castles and fairytales and ask lots of fantastic learning questions!

Outdoor Learning – Bird Feeders

After our big bird watch survey, we decided to make some bird feeders to encourage different species of birds to come to our woodland area.

We took them out to the woods to find some good spots to hang them up for the birds!
