Rabbi Rubin visits p5

Primary 5 were lucky enough to be visited by Rabbi Rubin. He was able to come into the class and answer many of our questions that we had emailed to him. We had been especially luck, because that very week we also had the Chief Rabbi visiting us and answering even more of our questions. We are hoping to share our knowledge soon with our friends in Primary 5 at St Clare’s. We are looking forward to our next visit from Rabbi Rubin.

Class Charter

Primary 5 are in the middle of creating our Class Charter for our classroom wall. We have all agreed on the theme of a Shanarri Picnic and we have been using the Art Studio to weave our picnic basket and create items of food and drink that we would bring to a picnic. When you lift each of the items up, you iwll find one of the SHANARRI indictators and our link to our rights and responsibilities in school.

JUDO

On Tuesday, Mrs Santi and Miss Morgan stepped aside as our teachers for the morning and allowed Jack to take over and teach us some Judo moves. Don’t worry, they kept an eye on us so that there were no real fights! It was great fun. Jack taught us how to bow and what to say, how to pin somebody down successfully on a mat and how to use your legs to get them to fall to the ground. We wish it had lasted longer so we could have learned more moves but it was really fun to work with the St Claire’s pupils.

The Primary 5 Class

P.E with Primary 7

On Thursdays in Primary 5, we work on our fitness! We have been doing this with the Primary 7 class, which has been a lot of fun and is making us work even harder because we would love to beat them at the different challenges.

We have been learning core strategies for fitness, especially ones that we can do with little space, time and zero equipment!

Ariel Amobi:
“We have been learning 5 different activities:
Planking; squats; sit ups; press ups and burpees! I think it has helped me work on my stamina and fitness, because I love to exercise!”

Edinburgh Book Festival

The Primary 5 Class, along with the Primary 3 class, travelled to Edinburgh to attend the annual Book Festival.

We had such a wonderful time!

We have written all about our experiences in our writing jotters, when we completed our recounts. We hope you get the chance to check them out when they get sent home. They will tell you all about the authors and illustrators that we met, the activities and workshops we took part in and the books we went on to buy.

Settling in and meeting new friends

In our first week in our brand new school, we have had a lovely opportunity to meet and spend some time with the pupils of the Primary 5 class in St Claire’s. We all met in the hub and we were able to chat to lots of different boys and girls and ask them 5 things about themselves. We then shared this information with both classes.

It was a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and find out things we all had in common. We think it’s going to be great sharing a campus with St Claire’s.

Primary 5 2017-2018

Welcome to the new Primary 5 Class Blog.

I am sorry for the delay in posting these updates, but there have been a few technical difficulties since we have started back. So much so, I am having to update these blogs on Mr Robson’s account at the moment until my own account is fixed.

We’re very excited to share with our readers all about the new, fun and interesting things we will be doing in Primary 5 this year.

Thanks,
Mrs Santi

Let me take a moment to introduce the wonderful pupils of Calderwood Lodge’s Primary 5 class:

When we went to Vikingar!

We ere so excited to be going to Vikingar as we loved learning all about the Vikings in social studies.  We got to try on Viking clothes and then went watched a presentation about what Viking life was like. After the presentation we went to the hall of knowledge where they were facts, puzzles and computers. Thora the Viking then  took us to the Viking long house were you could try on chain armour and helmets. You could also grind oats and look at the food, we also found out they ate salmon porridge for breakfast! At the end Thora will took us to Valhalla, the Viking haven where the great one eyed Odin will speak to us about the other Viking gods Frey, Freya, Njord and Thor. Tabitha was strong enough to carry Thor`s hammer! We then spent some time at the gift shop and had some fun playing Viking games in the garden.
