Spaghetti Bridges

As part of Science Week we were making bridges with spaghetti and paper straws.  They had to be able to stand up by themselves and they had to be able to hold a 250 gram weight.  If you used one bit of spaghetti it would easily break because it was not very strong, but if you used a couple of bits then it held up better.  It was quite hard – even the easiest bridge was quite hard!  Only one group managed to do it, but it was fun and we learned a lot about how to make the things we build stronger!  (Also, it made some of us  hungry for spaghetti!)

Science Week: Planetarium

As part of Science Week we got to visit a mobile planetarium in the P.E. hall  and it was amazing!  We all sat in the dark and learned about stars and galaxies.  It felt as if we were actually out in space!

Fun Run Thank You

Thanks to parents and other friends and family for your generous sponsorship of our Science Fun Run.   We all got rather wet, but persevered for as long as we possibly could!  A big pat on the back to all the children for their efforts too.

This Week’s Homework

Here is the homework for the next two weeks.  It is due on Friday 22nd March.

Click here to see Task Sheet

We plan soon to start putting all of our homework sheets on the blog so that you can download the ones you need easily.  If this causes a problem for you, just let us know and we’ll send a paper copy home.

Can’t wait to see all the interesting science ideas!

World Book Day

We all had a lot of fun on World Book Day!  We dressed up or brought props from our favourite books, we went to a book swap, we read stories, we created our own dramas and we even wrote the opening for one of the school’s travelling books!   Here are a few photos of us enjoying ourselves with books!

Thank You

It was great to see  the lovely photos of you all making pancakes!   We even got some great drawings and tasty recipes too!  Thank you to all the mums, dads and other people who shared this fun learning experience.   We do appreciate all the effort you make to support your children with their tasks, investigations, and presentations, etc.  (And we hope they helped to clean the kitchen afterwards!)

Role Play and Writing

Here are  some boys playing with cars.  They have been writing about the cars too!

Senses Topic

We have been learning about the five senses.  We did some experiments to learn about touch, small, taste, hearing and seeing.  Did you know that if you have two cups attached by a piece of string you can use it like a phone?  One person speaks into the cup and the other person can hear them!

Hot and Cold Parts of the World

We have been learning about different parts of the world .  Scotland is quite a cool country, although we get hot days sometimes.  The colours on this map show us parts of the world where it is usually VERY hot or VERY cold.  We can also see bits where it is not usually too hot or cold.  The key on the map tells us what the colours all mean.

Pokemon Problem Solving

This morning we were learning about problem solving.  Some of our strategies were to Act It Out or Look for a Pattern.   We might be able to use these strategies again to solve other problems.  Our teachers are going to try to catch us out!
