What are we up to in P3a?

There are only 7 and a half weeks left until we become big P4s but we still have lots of exciting things planned for P3. Have a look at what we are getting up to!

Science Whizz Kids

For Science Week we had a project homework where we had to investigate how sounds are made. Miss MacArthur has been blown away by how hard we worked and some of our fantastic investigations. Here you can find some:

P3a and P6a – a dream team!

We have been working collaboratively with P6a. We take turns to visit each other and share our learning. We do lots of different activities together like reading, discussing topic work and looking at pieces of work we are proud of. This time, we took our writing jotters to P6a’s classroom to read them our writing all about our monsters. Then, we worked together to write about our monster’s personality. P6a helped us think of really good ways to describe how our monster acts and some of their likes and dislikes. It helped us to think about how we can always try to make our writing even better!

STEM Challenge Marble Run

On Tuesday, we completed our marble runs. We were so proud of our creations! We all worked really well in a team and really enjoyed our challenge.

STEM Challenge

This week is British Science Week. Mr Russell gave us a STEM challenge where we had to use cardboard to create a marble run. We had to create cardboard struts and stick them to our boxes for the marble to run down. We learned that if our marble was going too fast, we could make the surface stickier or rougher to slow it down. We could also change the angle of our struts to make the marble go faster or slower. We all had great fun. Miss MacArthur didn’t enjoy the mess we made as much as we did!

Science Fun Run

We jumped over obstacles and ran on benches. We went under nets and tried to shoot a basketball into the net. We also went on giant steps and had to jump off of them. We had to answer some science questions. One question was “what planet do we live on?” and the other was “is there winter on Mars?” We learned that there is winter on Mars! – Isla and Noelle

I liked how they actually tested you about space and telling you interesting facts like there’s winter on Mars! – Manya

The fun run was cool because you got fit. My favourite bit was answering the questions. – Jessica

The thing I liked about the fun run was it made you fit and it was interesting about the facts. I liked crawling under the cargo net. I wish it was outside but I still had fun. – Arthur

I really liked the space run, I hope next time it can be outside. I learned interesting facts about space and I really liked doing the cargo net and the basketball hoop where we tried to shoot in. – Louis

Spelling Stars

Each week we choose lots of active ways to practise our spelling words. Some of our favourites are using Miss MacArthur’s sharpies, writing on the desks with whiteboard pens and speed write. We have even started to think up our own ways to practise our words.

Super Sounds

We have been learning about how sounds are made. We learned every sound is made through vibrations. We conducted an experiment to try to make sounds. We made a quacking cup. We we our hands and pulled them down the string. When they got stuck on the string, the string vibrated and this made a quacking sound from the cup.

I liked the quacking cup because it was funny when it was vibrating – Mazin

I liked how we learned about vibrations – Noelle.
