Writing

Over the last few weeks, we have all created a pet monster. This week for writing, we started to describe our character. We only focused on how our character looks this week but next time we will start to describe its personality too.  Once we had finished,  we paired up and read our partner’s writing. We highlighted the bits in their description we thought were really good and peer assessed. Then, some of us read our writing to the class and they gave us  feedback, telling us what they thought was good about our writing and what we could do better next time. Here are some pictures of us reading our writing to our class. Our star writer’s pieces are a few posts below :).

Bug Hunting

On Wednesday, Katie a ranger from Rouken Glen Park came to visit us. She gave us all a net and asked us to try to find some minibeasts in our eco-garden. We had to search under rocks, plants and leaves to try and find them because lots of mini-beasts like damp conditions. We really enjoyed taking part and we found lots of interesting bugs. We found some leeches, a ground beatle, baby snails, old snail shells and a baby slug. At the end, Katie put them all back in the garden safely :).

Star Writers

Our Star Writers this week are Maisie, Ella, Jessica and Bruce.  Here are our character descriptions:

Maisie’s Monster

My monster’s name is Colourboller because it is full of colour. Colourboller is the fluffiest monster in the whole world. She has a beautiful multicoloured belly and her lovely pink cheeks look like cookies. She has a great round body and is very very cute. Her eyes are a nice purple eye colour. She has shiny round teeth and her mouth shines brighter than a burning fire. Her legs are so small and her hands are brighter than blueberries. On her hands you will find four spikes. She is holding a sword and a magic setter. She has beautiful wings and black reindeer horns.

Bruce’s Monster

My monster is called Ryin. Ryin is a bit cheeky but very very funny. Ryin likes sport and he is very good at it because he is very tall. He has a shiny orange face like a chocolate orange wrapper. On each arm he has really spiky red claws. He has four shiny eyes. He has small, fat legs. He has one lonely bit of hair and he always wears a red cap. He has a really sharp nose with a big moustache with sharp, big ears. Finally, he has a fluffy orange tummy and all over his tummy he has spikes which are as sharp as a knife.

Ella’s and Jessica’s will be added on Monday 🙂

STEM Challenge

This week is British Science Week. Mr Russell gave us a STEM challenge where we had to use cardboard to create a marble run. We had to create cardboard struts and stick them to our boxes for the marble to run down. We learned that if our marble was going too fast, we could make the surface stickier or rougher to slow it down. We could also change the angle of our struts to make the marble go faster or slower. We all had great fun. Miss MacArthur didn’t enjoy the mess we made as much as we did!

Science Fun Run

We jumped over obstacles and ran on benches. We went under nets and tried to shoot a basketball into the net. We also went on giant steps and had to jump off of them. We had to answer some science questions. One question was “what planet do we live on?” and the other was “is there winter on Mars?” We learned that there is winter on Mars! – Isla and Noelle

I liked how they actually tested you about space and telling you interesting facts like there’s winter on Mars! – Manya

The fun run was cool because you got fit. My favourite bit was answering the questions. – Jessica

The thing I liked about the fun run was it made you fit and it was interesting about the facts. I liked crawling under the cargo net. I wish it was outside but I still had fun. – Arthur

I really liked the space run, I hope next time it can be outside. I learned interesting facts about space and I really liked doing the cargo net and the basketball hoop where we tried to shoot in. – Louis
