This week in P3a

We have had a very busy week in P3 but unfortunately we have had no camera.

We did some Inference Iggy. He gave us a picture and we had to use the clues in the picture to help us work out what was happening. Then he gave us a piece of text called Lily and the Tooth Fairy. After we had read it, we had a sheet of questions to answer and we had to look back in the text and inference. I found it quite easy because I followed the instructions. – Rayna

For my homework I made a rap about my year in P3 – here it is.

Hello my name is KG

It’s time to talk about Primary 3

At my table are Ben, Bruce and Ella,

Jessica, Ruby, Clementine and Sara.

Now let’s talk about history

And other subjects you will see,

There’s spelling, maths and literacy.

Wait a minute, don’t forget art,

because all I’m doing is sneaking out a …..

There was a show about climate change,

Where the penguins could talk which is rather strange!

Miss MacArthur said Noelle, I said knees

and then the primary 3s started to wheeze.

Now I’ve come to the end of my rap,

It’s soon time for you to clap.

‘Cause my name is KG

and that for me was primary 3!  – by Kerr 🙂

I presented my homework. I did a powerpoint about my favourite football team. I learned about their most famous team who won the cup in Lisbon. – Louis

We have also been revising division, learning about different forms of energy and writing some fantastic simile poems.

Inference Iggy

This morning when we came into class we noticed something strange had happened. All around the classroom, there were lots of clues!

I think the Riddler has been here! – Ben

We decided we should turn into detectives and solve them. We found it really fun but we had to read all of the information carefully to make our guess.

We then found out that all of our clues had been left by Inference Iggy. He is a dog who looks like a detective! He helps us to hunt for clues and is going to help us do this when we are reading lots of different texts.

Fun in the Sun

We decided to make the most of the glorious Scottish weather and take our maths outdoors. We used chalk and also searched on the banking for natural materials to make up some of our times tables.

Some of us were sorting 3D shapes too. We had so many to look through!

We made sure we were responsible and cleaned up after ourselves at the end. We even tidied up some mess we hadn’t made. We were really sad to find lots of plastic cups and litter on the banking because we know how harmful this can be to wildlife. We brought all the plastic inside so Miss MacArthur can take it home to her recycling bin.

Food Chains

As part of our new science topic we have been learning all about food chains. We found it really interesting and couldn’t believe every food chain in the world starts with a plant! We sorted a food chain in our groups and then made some of our own. We are going to go outside to see if we can spot any animals and work out a food chain they may belong to on Thursday.  Here’s hoping the sun keeps shining!

Spelling

We were given the choice about how to practise our spelling words today.

Isla chose to use lego to create her words.  Can you work out what it says?

Rayna, Manya, Callum and Holly chose to play beat the teacher.

Jessica, Ella and Skye chose to use paint. They even added some tints and shades to their paint! 🙂

Ruby and Ella chose to write on the desks using chalk pens.

Harris made his words out of lego too, can you work it out?

Gymnastics Fun

On Monday we were so lucky to have a special gymnastics session by Mrs Wilson. We were learning all about balancing and keeping our body steady on lots of different bits of equipment. We had great fun!

What are we up to in P3a?

There are only 7 and a half weeks left until we become big P4s but we still have lots of exciting things planned for P3. Have a look at what we are getting up to!

Our term 4 planning grid can be found by clicking here.

Maths

In maths we are currently learning…

Circles: 3D shape

Triangles: 4 and 5 times table

Squares: 6 and 7 times table

Science Experiments

Last week we finished up our science topic all about sound. We made kazoos and pan pipes.  We had to follow the instructions really carefully. Once we had made our kazoos, we tried to alter the pitch of the sound by moving our straws and making them bigger/smaller. We found it really fun!

I think it was a success making a kazoo.  It was so fun because I had never played a kazoo before. It also got your problem to work. – Skye

We made it by getting lollipop sticks and elastic bands. We got a big elastic band and put it around the lollipop stick and then we put a ruler and cut 3cm of straw. We put it in the lollipop sticks and fastened it. – Amber

Mathematical Monday

This morning we all worked really hard during our maths lesson. We have all been learning about some really tricky things  recently.

The circles have been learning about addition with carrying. They have worked so hard and done a fantastic job! Today they answered lots of addition questions and marked their answers using a calculator and one of Miss MacArthur’s special marking pens. Here they are looking very proud of their work:

The triangles have been learning their times tables. Today they had to put them to the test by answering lots of times tables questions and colouring the shape the right colour. Amber was very proud of her finished piece:

The squares have been learning about division with remainders. Today they took on the role of the teacher because Miss MacArthur thought they could do it best! They worked so hard to explain all of their thinking when solving tricky questions!
