Science Experiments

Last week we finished up our science topic all about sound. We made kazoos and pan pipes.  We had to follow the instructions really carefully. Once we had made our kazoos, we tried to alter the pitch of the sound by moving our straws and making them bigger/smaller. We found it really fun!

I think it was a success making a kazoo.  It was so fun because I had never played a kazoo before. It also got your problem to work. – Skye

We made it by getting lollipop sticks and elastic bands. We got a big elastic band and put it around the lollipop stick and then we put a ruler and cut 3cm of straw. We put it in the lollipop sticks and fastened it. – Amber

Rayna’s Achievement

Rayna completed a very selfless act when she got her hair cut. She donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which helps make wigs for children who are poorly. Well done, Rayna!

Science Whizz Kids

For Science Week we had a project homework where we had to investigate how sounds are made. Miss MacArthur has been blown away by how hard we worked and some of our fantastic investigations. Here you can find some:

Mathematical Monday

This morning we all worked really hard during our maths lesson. We have all been learning about some really tricky things  recently.

The circles have been learning about addition with carrying. They have worked so hard and done a fantastic job! Today they answered lots of addition questions and marked their answers using a calculator and one of Miss MacArthur’s special marking pens. Here they are looking very proud of their work:

The triangles have been learning their times tables. Today they had to put them to the test by answering lots of times tables questions and colouring the shape the right colour. Amber was very proud of her finished piece:

The squares have been learning about division with remainders. Today they took on the role of the teacher because Miss MacArthur thought they could do it best! They worked so hard to explain all of their thinking when solving tricky questions!

P3a and P6a – a dream team!

We have been working collaboratively with P6a. We take turns to visit each other and share our learning. We do lots of different activities together like reading, discussing topic work and looking at pieces of work we are proud of. This time, we took our writing jotters to P6a’s classroom to read them our writing all about our monsters. Then, we worked together to write about our monster’s personality. P6a helped us think of really good ways to describe how our monster acts and some of their likes and dislikes. It helped us to think about how we can always try to make our writing even better!

Mazin’s Achievement

Mazin’s basketball team won the league and the cup! Mazin was also voted as his team’s MVP – huge congratulations Mazin! 🙂

Writing

Over the last few weeks, we have all created a pet monster. This week for writing, we started to describe our character. We only focused on how our character looks this week but next time we will start to describe its personality too.  Once we had finished,  we paired up and read our partner’s writing. We highlighted the bits in their description we thought were really good and peer assessed. Then, some of us read our writing to the class and they gave us  feedback, telling us what they thought was good about our writing and what we could do better next time. Here are some pictures of us reading our writing to our class. Our star writer’s pieces are a few posts below :).

Bug Hunting

On Wednesday, Katie a ranger from Rouken Glen Park came to visit us. She gave us all a net and asked us to try to find some minibeasts in our eco-garden. We had to search under rocks, plants and leaves to try and find them because lots of mini-beasts like damp conditions. We really enjoyed taking part and we found lots of interesting bugs. We found some leeches, a ground beatle, baby snails, old snail shells and a baby slug. At the end, Katie put them all back in the garden safely :).

STEM Challenge Marble Run

On Tuesday, we completed our marble runs. We were so proud of our creations! We all worked really well in a team and really enjoyed our challenge.
