It takes place on Tuesday the 17th of December in P5A’s classroom from 1.45pm to 2.30.pm

The money will go to the Scottish SPCA and Cancer Research.

Today we were in our houses designing a reindeer that was at least 50cm high, had antlers and could hold a toy elf for at least a minute.
We all worked really hard in our teams and created some really great designs using junk materials.

P5a – Please remember to bring an e-mail address into school tomorrow. We have unfortunately had to postpone this activity for 2 weeks because children have forgotten to. Â It is an important part of our learning and covers an experience and outcome at the second level that must be taught. Please help us achieve this.

Today the children of P5a created mini lava lamps by combining water, oil and a vitamin C tablet. When the tablet was added to the beaker, it fell through the oil unchanged until it hit the water where it started to fizz.
The chemical reaction released Carbon Dioxide gas.

In Science we started a new topic ‘Mixing and Separating’.  Today we discussed that a mixture is a number of different materials combined together that don’t react chemically, meaning no new substance is formed.
The children were challenged to separate rice, sand and gems by making a sieve out of a piece of card. Some of them were more successful than others and in the end, they realised that the holes in their sieves had to be small to let the sand particles through first. Â They had to then make larger holes to sieve through the rice and then they would be left with the gems.

P5a will be hosting a Winter market in December(date to be confirmed) and will be selling products that they have made. The proceeds will be going to a charity that they have chosen.

The children will make a decoration for their classroom. This will be displayed on the day of their market.
Please note – There will be no Literacy or Numeracy homework over the 2 Week Project.

Remember that you need to explain to the class how you made your item, how much it cost and how long it took to produce.
We had lots of messy fun today in Art. Â We used rollers and sponges to create some fantastic Autumn prints.
