Newsflash!!!!

Our ‘Wild Winter Market’ will take place in the P5a classroom on Tuesday 17th December 2019 from 1.45pm-2.30pm.  If you are unable to attend our fair and/or would like to pre-order any item(s), order forms will be made available soon.

Order forms must be completed and returned by next Friday (6th December).

Money raised will go towards our chosen charity (tbc) so please dig deep 😉

E-mail address

P5a – Please remember to bring an e-mail address into school tomorrow. We have unfortunately had to postpone this activity for 2 weeks because children have forgotten to.  It is an important part of our learning and covers an experience and outcome at the second level that must be taught. Please help us achieve this.

Thank you!

Lava Lamps!

Today the children of P5a created mini lava lamps by combining water, oil and a vitamin C tablet. When the tablet was added to the beaker, it fell through the oil unchanged until it hit the water where it started to fizz.

The chemical reaction released Carbon Dioxide gas.

Science Fun!

In Science we started a new topic ‘Mixing and Separating’.  Today we discussed that a mixture is a number of different materials combined together that don’t react chemically, meaning no new substance is formed.

The children were challenged to separate rice, sand and gems by making a sieve out of a piece of card. Some of them were more successful than others and in the end, they realised that the holes in their sieves had to be small to let the sand particles through first.  They had to then make larger holes to sieve through the rice and then they would be left with the gems.

Have a look below to see how they did!

2 Week Project Homework

P5a will be hosting a Winter market in December(date to be confirmed) and will be selling products that they have made.  The proceeds will be going to a charity that they have chosen.

Week 1 Homework (due in Friday 29th November)

The children will research the costings of items. Please see additional sheet for more information.  Please note, all children have been issued with a paper copy of this sheet and should return it, filled in with the information on Friday.

Week 2 Homework (due in Friday 6th December)

The children will make a decoration for their classroom. This will be displayed on the day of their market.

Please note – There will be no Literacy or Numeracy homework over the 2 Week Project.

£1 Challenge due tomorrow

Please remember that your enterprise homework is due in tomorrow (Tuesday).

I am really looking forward to seeing all your different ideas.

Remember that you need to explain to the class how you made your item, how much it cost and how long it took to produce.

Homework 18th-22nd November

Technology

Remember to bring in your prototype on Tuesday. You should also be able to explain –

*How did you make it?

*How long did it take to make?

*How much did it cost to produce?

Active Spelling

In class you have chosen your spelling words level from the ‘Chilli Challenge’.  You have to find 5 additional words at that level. You may use the internet or a dictionary to help you.

The spelling rule will change every week.

In addition to this, we would like you to practise this rule by choosing to complete two tasks found on the ‘Spelling Menu’.  Please choose different ones from last week. Please record your words in your Literacy Homework Jotter and be prepared to share these on Friday. All other tasks do not need to be recorded in the jotter as these should be active and enjoyable and will not be checked over by the teacher.

Book Week Scotland

This week is Book Week Scotland and I would like you to challenge yourself to read as many nights as possible and/or undertake extreme reading (this is when you read in extreme places or at least very unusual places)J.

Please share any photos on Twitter using the hashtags    #extremereadingkps #bookweekscotland  #bwskps

Numeracy

In Numeracy you have been focusing on either BODMAS, 3D Shape or the 6 and 7 multiplication tables.

Please select any work from the blog that supports your learning.

Homework 11th November

Enterprise Homework – (due in on Tuesday 19th November)

Primary 5 are beginning a new Enterprise topic where each class will run their own Christmas Market.

Your task is to create a prototype of a product which could be made and sold by your class.  Your product should be seasonal and should not cost too much to make (no more than about £1 per individual product). We want to raise as much money as possible; therefore your product should be of high quality (“shop standard”) and appeal to your target market.

Please note that you should only make one item to bring in and show your class.  We will then vote for the best and the winning designs will be re-produced in larger quantities for selling.

Food for thought: Try searching Pinterest or Google for ‘Children’s Christmas crafts’.

Good luck!

Literacy homework – Chilli Challenge (due in on Friday 15th November)

Find 5 additional words and write these in your homework jotter.

In addition to this, we would like you to practise this rule by choosing to complete two tasks found on the ‘Spelling Menu’.  Please choose different ones from last week.

It’s competition time!!!

This week for homework,  all children in Primary 3 – 7 are being asked to take part in the new Sumdog competition ‘East Renfrewshire Maths Contest’.

It started today and finishes at 8pm on Thursday 14th November.

Here are some things to keep in mind during the contest:

  • Students can play at any time.
  • For the score to count, the East Renfrewshire Maths Contest activity must be showing in the green panel on the left of the student’s screen when they click to start each game.
  • Their scores are based on correct answers.
  • The class score is the average of the scores from all students from that class who take part.
  • To appear on the leaderboard, at least 10 students from a class need to play.
  • As some students have limited computer access, every student is limited to 1000 contest questions. However, their free logins let them keep playing other activities afterwards.

Good luck P5a – I know you can do it!!
