P5-P7 Homework from Monday 15 April – Friday 26 April

Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Scotland are delighted to work with Brakes Scotland to launch the 2019 Braw Lunch Brake Challenge with partners, Royal Highland Education Trust, ASSIST FM, Education Scotland, Skills Development Scotland and Developing Young Workforce.

This competition is open to all P5, 6 and 7 pupils across Scotland.  FDF are looking for the industry stars of the future.

Your Task

We would like pupils to develop an innovative, healthy dish that includes local Scottish produce that would appeal to them and their fellow pupils?

The winning entrant from each stage will then be asked to prepare their healthy dish and serve it to the Leadership Team on Wednesday 8 May 2019.  The winning dish will then be submitted to the national competition.

Why are we participating in this competition?

By participating in this activity food education in school will be enhanced through:

  • Encouraging greater understanding of the food chain from field to fork and sea to plate
  • Supporting educated food choices
  • Developing an understanding of the real world of work and how businesses operate and the skills required by employers

And it may spark an interest for their future career.

Ask an Expert

This week we spent time teaching each other different skills in maths and numeracy. We each became “experts” in different areas of maths or numeracy and planned our own activities and lessons for others in our class to learn from. We had lessons on time, measure, perimeter, area, algebra, fractions, decimal numbers and much more!

Science Week

For Science week, primary 6 did a lot of things! We enjoyed making posters for other classes to see about  one of our previous science topics, e.g. food chains and webs, space -which most people thoroughly enjoyed-, electricity, where a lot of people had creative ideas and suggestions!

We also went to see primary 7’s exhibition in each of their classes! They had different things that people like, for example, slime, volcano eruptions and ooblec! No surprise, everyone got their hand dug in and got very involved! No sign of a dull moment!

P6 made boats and tested them in groups out of ONLY paper and cardboard! We had to put weights in the boats and see how much they could hold in the water.  We thoroughly enjoyed it too!  They mostly held a whopping total of 700 grams!

‘It was great fun! My boat was so big, we had to use a completely different bucket!’ – Inarah

My boat was medium size and  it nearly SANK!’ – Zenya

We all had a great time!

The Great Wall of China

We have been finding out about one of the seven wonders of the world – The Great Wall of China.

To do this we carried out research  online and made notes  of our findings under headings. We then selected the most important facts to display on a poster.

Here are some of our finished posters full of interesting facts and displayed creatively.

Science Challenge

On Monday, P6b kicked off science week with a technology challenge. Everyone worked hard in their teams to design and build a boat using only cardboard, sellotape and tinfoil! The boats were then put to the test in the water and were weighted down to see if they would float or sink. We had great fun making our boats and then testing them!

Working hard on our boat design!
We needed to work as a team.
Starting to build our boat.
The Tintanic managed to stay afloat with the weights aboard.
Hopefully Crackers Ship doesn’t sink!
